Satisfied User

I am aghast at all the negative reviews as my experience of Makita has been positive. I own a drill, a sander and a strimmer and all have worked faultlessly for several years. I'm not a "power user" but they still get a fair bit of regular use. Maybe I've just been lucky but I have no complaints.

Very disappointed

I have long been a fan of Makita Tools that use for my carpentry business reccomending them regularly to colleagues. It says a lot for the quality of their tools that I have never had cause to complain or require any major repairs. Just over a year ago based on my experience of Makita tools I purchased a garden shredder not the cheapest on the market but I assumed it wolud meet their high standards. However after a little over a year of pretty light use it completely failed, unfortunately I had not been made aware of the extended warranty. Despite this I returned it to the Makita service centre expecting that a repair on a relatively new machine would be economic and simple. I was shocked when Makita quoted that a new motor wolud be required at a cost considerably more than the cost of a new machine . I cannot see how this is possible but was assured by Makita that this was the case and they were not prepared to negotiate. There only offer was to buy a new machine and take out the three year warranty. I am not preared to do this as if the new machine is of the same poor quality as the old machine despite the warranty I still would have all the considerable hassle of packaging this fairly bulky machine, In the abscence of any reasonable offer from Makita I think it best to look at an alternative comparable machine.

Expensive unrepairable products....confused customer service

.... unless you are willing to pay one of Makita's expensive service centres. and drive 30 miles to get to it!

All I wanted was a wiring diagram to fit a new switch ironically supplied by Makita customer service but without a wiring diagram. Makita then refused to supply the wiring diagram for switch KOA7; IEC/EN; 60947-3; AC-3 IP54 Coil voltage 220-240

Makita Drills codswallop

So I purchased a Makita DHP487SF drill/driver from B&Q as most of my other tools are Makita, which I purchased due to my old Worx drill head not centering well any longer. Got home used the drill and found the drill bit was spinning bent. Ok new drill bit then. No, same issue. Tried 6 drill bits infact. All with the same result. So returned the tool for an exchange. Got to B&Q (who were very helpful) tested another one of the same model. Actually two. Both of which were the exact sane, bent. Now I suspect the batch is bad. So we test another Makita model (DDF453Z 18v LXT Cordless Compact Drill Driver) slightly more expensive model. Long and behold, Same issue. What on earth has happened to Makita.

I’d like to think when people buy drills they would like to drill a 3mm hole with a 3mm bit, not a 4mm hole. We all expect a little play in the chuck but this is ridiculous for a brand in the mid range market.

Anyhow I ended up going with Dewalt which spins perfectly straight right out the box. Just to be sure I tested 3 Dewalt drills while there. And yep all perfect. Which now means I’ll be swapping all Makita gear for Dewalt and never looking back. Well done Makita. Not that I’m surprised after reading all the reviews here though. Wish I’d done that sooner.

Rude customer service

If I could leave less than 1 star I would
The customer service is appalling after my saw has broke for the 5th time in 7 months I was promised a new saw as it should not fail this amount of times, they then decided to back track on this and blame the faults on me saying I’ve caused the fault and I no longer get any warranty (even though their tools come with a 12 month warranty) he continued to dismiss me and say we just are not going to do anything about it and kept blaming me for the fault even though I also have another of the exact same saw that I’ve used for the exact same job for 2 years and have had no issues! Terrible customer service it’s the worst I’ve ever received and the person I spoke to had no understanding on my case and just kept blaming me and saying he can not comment on anything else

The customer service from makita is…

The customer service from makita is absolutely shocking!. I would suggest avoiding them at all costs.
I have always used makita tools for years and have spent thousands through that time.

I have gone through 3 of the makita 18v brushless skillsaws within 18 months each time the same issue developed where the trigger slowly began to become unresponsive until then completely dies.

The first one I sent to makita through the builders merchants.
They said it was due to misuse and that I had to either pay for it to be repaired or pay for it to be delivered back to the suppliers.

Eventually the suppliers said that they themselves would give me a new tool as they thought it was unfair as it was still within the first year of purchase, but they would not be able to give any warranty on it at all.
In the beginning when I first went back to the suppliers at the time of handing them the first saw knowing it may take a week or 2 to receive back my saw I actually purchased a second saw of the same model to fill in as I constantly use this particular saw for framing work etc, that also now has just died again as has the one the suppliers gave to me as a gesture of good will.

Terrible customer services

Terrible customer services.
Repaired my chainsaw then said they would not charge me for the repair but instead do it free as a good will gesture. The chainsaw blew up, apparently sawdust had gotten into the inside of the saw causing it to short out. How is this possibly my fault?
Chainsaw and batteries were also returned in very poor condition.
Should have checked the reviews before ordering.

Following my review I received a call from Makita informing me they were investigating my complaint. I was promised a further call along with an email explaining how my complaint was going. That was a month ago, I’ve received neither.

Some excellent mains tools, AVOID Makita cordless

I've bought various Makita tools over the years and found most of the mains powered tools manufactured in Japan have been excellent though had a couple of short lived angle grinders made in the EU that have failed prematurely just outside of warranty. Bought a cheap black and decker DIY angle grinder afterwards for about a third of the price and that's still working fine and so far had more use than both the Makitas put together.
On a positive note I've bought a Makita petrol strimmer which has out lasted the cheap petrol strimmers such as Titan ones from Screwfix and B & Q, admittedly it was twice the price but well worth it as it has always started easily.
As for cordless tools when Makita many years ago switched from ni-cd to lithium battery technology I sold my old Makita ni-cd tools which had served me well over the years and upgraded to the lithium power tools. Big MISTAKE as the cordless tools are not the best quality anymore plus the Batteries are very unreliable. The batteries only have a 90 day warranty and within two years I've had to replace all the batteries. My friends DeWalt he bought at the same time had all it's original batteries working fine, So I sold all my 18v Makita tools on eBay as bare units and replaced them with DeWalt which have been good so. Out of 6 original DeWalt batteries bought in 2014 I had one stop working after 5 years and the other five are still going strong.

Avoid

Diisappointing experience with Makita customer service. Tora, displayed appalling customer service skills. She was incredibly rude, condescending, and used a sarcastic tone throughout our conversation. It was clear that she had no interest in helping me resolve my issue. As a result of her dismissive attitude, my item was not returned, and I believe the responsibility lies entirely with her poor handling of the situation. This experience was unacceptable, and I would strongly advise others to think twice before relying on Makita customer service.

Spent £1400 on the new 415mm saw and two 8ah batteries for ripping down oak beams. Didn't come with the side fence advertised in their videos. Rang makita and they said there's one for it but they are out of stock and I have to buy it separately. Basically told me it's my problem now not theirs???

Always had makita tools, NEVER AGAIN

I have always had makita tools and over 10 years ago I purchased my tools and had no problems with them whatsoever, in fact I still have tools over 10 years still working perfectly
However I bought latest more powerful tools, batteries and a radio about a year and half ago and they have all failed almost 2k in the bin. I will never buy a single thing again from makita, they aren't mafe to last. I have been told by data power tools in cardiff that the cost to repair is just as much as buying new.
I'm starting to buy dewalt and milwaukee now.
Looking at reviews it seems makita will end up going bust of their tools being sold in stores like the what shop, range homebargains pound world.

disappointed

I’m really disappointed with Makita and how they’ve treated me My dhs680 has been repaired three times already for the same issue I contacted Makita again to send it in for another replacement but Tora said that wasn’t possible Instead she promised they would collect the machine and fix it They picked up the machine but then sent it back without repairing it because the warranty had expired It’s only two months out of the 12 month warranty and I feel completely let down Tora assured me the repair would be done because this is a known problem with these machines but they refused to help. I won’t be buying Makita again I’ll keep this machine to remind me of how badly I was treated
