Rented through Martin & Co for 2 years…
Rented through Martin & Co for 2 years with 3 monthly property reviews throughout. Never had a problem with a good review every time and no concerns highlighted. When it came to moving from the property in May 2023, suddenly this changed. Post vacating the property I was notified that £900 (of my £1600 deposit) was being withheld and that the ‘landlord’ was very upset at the state of the property?!?? On leaving I had all carpets professionally cleaned, the house cleaned professionally and, in my opinion, left it in a better state then when I moved in (I had the house cleaned before I moved in as it was grubby and very dusty). M & Co tried to charge me for having carpets cleaned again, for house cleaning, even £45 to have the bins emptied (I moved out on a Friday and bin collection was a Wednesday). After a long protracted period of time, I finally received my deposit back at the end of July. Be careful with these guys as they will do what they can to hold your deposit. I had charges added for removing items which were in the house when I moved in?!?? Very disappointing experience with them. Having rented for the best part of 10 years with various agents, I’ve never had a penny of deposit withheld, never had a complaint from an agent or landlord and never experienced such a blatant attempt to withhold funds unnecessarily. Thankfully I was able to retrieve my funds but for some they may rely on receiving this back in a timely manner. Would never use these guys again and would strongly recommend avoiding them at all costs.
