Complete disregard for the tenants
As a parent of a student renting through Martin & Co Canterbury, I am absolutely appalled by both the condition of the accommodation and the agency's handling of repeated complaints.
The students have raised numerous concerns about cleanliness, damaged fixtures, outstanding maintenance and the general condition of the property. Rather than providing meaningful assistance, the agency has repeatedly redirected them to its maintenance reporting system, with little apparent progress.
Despite the students escalating their concerns, Angie Collins, the Managing Director, responded by stating that the agency's final viewpoint had already been given, while several issues remained unresolved.
Having now visited the property myself, I am horrified. The building has developed extensive structural defects, including significant cracking, walls separating from ceilings and floors, and doors that no longer close properly. My partner, who works in construction, has serious concerns about the extent of the deterioration.
These students are paying substantial sums for accommodation while pursuing their education. They deserve to be treated with respect, to have their concerns taken seriously and, most importantly, to live in a safe and properly maintained property.
The lack of urgency, accountability and genuine care demonstrated throughout this experience is deeply disappointing. I would urge prospective tenants and parents to consider our experience before placing their trust in this agency.
