Avoid Martin & Co
Avoid Martin & Co. In my experience they were unprofessional and I had to chase them constantly.
They failed to tell me promptly when a tenant left, so the property sat empty while I was left chasing updates. I also had to chase rent that the tenant had already paid them, because it was not passed on. After a previous tenancy I had to pursue a deposit they had received from DPS; even then they deducted money I had already paid myself and I had to keep chasing the balance.
Poor communication, little accountability, and a lot of wasted time and money. I have now moved the property to another agent.

Joker Letting Agent
Would like to give 0 stars but this is unfortunately not possible. I’ve been letting my property through jokers since 2021, initially started with the Newport Branch, but then they transferred my account to Cardiff in 2025 for some unknown reason. Worst nightmare since then. Started by auto enrolling me for landlord insurance which I said I did not need and began taking premiums from my rental remittance. Refuse to chase tenants for arrears, and will not even have the courtesy to respond to emails, only when MD Little Mike wants to flex his grammer about why he is allowed to charge for services I already pay for. To make matters worse, they want 6 months notice before they even start transferring my account to a new agent. Will not offer services they are paid for and refuse to let go. Talk about eating cake and having it too.
Our experience with Martin & Co Cardiff…
Our experience with Martin & Co Cardiff has been extremely stressful and disappointing.
We applied for a rental property at 15 Clos Winmill and paid a holding deposit in February. After passing referencing, we were told we had been accepted for the property.
We were then asked to sign the occupation contract and pay the first month’s rent and security deposit (£3,269.23) in advance of the move-in date. We were given a confirmed move-in date and key collection time (Friday at 12:00) and were granted access to the tenancy portal showing our tenancy start date.
Based on these confirmations, we served notice on our current tenancy, packed our home and arranged removals. We have a newborn baby and a toddler, so this involved a huge amount of planning and disruption.
Just days before we were due to move in, we were suddenly informed that the landlord had decided not to proceed with the tenancy.
We were left in a situation where:
• we had already served notice on our current home
• we had paid for removals
• we had packed our entire house
• we had to place belongings into storage
While the agent has repeatedly stated that the tenancy was “subject to contract,” the process leading up to this point created every reasonable expectation that the tenancy was proceeding.
Accepting full rent and deposit, issuing contracts for signature, providing tenancy portal access and confirming a key collection time only for the property to be withdrawn days before move-in is incredibly disruptive and distressing for tenants.
Although our funds were eventually returned, the financial loss, disruption and stress caused to our family could easily have been avoided with better handling of the situation.
This experience has been extremely upsetting and I would strongly advise anyone considering renting through this branch to proceed with caution.
JANE & KAREN...
Well... NEVER in my whole life have I ever experienced such RUDENESS from people that work in the interest of the public. My brother is a first time buyer and saw a house for sale that really sparked his interest. He called Martin & Co and spoke to a woman named JANE. JANE'S attitude was absolutely DISGUSTING! The way she spoke to my brother was totally uncalled for! She questioned his affordability with a degrading attitude and the whole conversation was awful! Because of his interest in the property, he rang back to ask to speak to somebody else (I was on a 3 way call at this point) and AGAIN JANE WAS RUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I rang back myself to ask how I go about making a complaint and spoke to said JANE but she said her name was KAREN (You can't make this up...) I informed KAREN that I will be making a formal complaint and I expressed to her that JANE and her attitude were AWFUL and that isn't the way you speak to somebody who is interested in buying a property... It seemed so odd that KAREN sounded exactly like JANE and that Martin & Co have 2 women in one office that have a DIABOLICAL ATTITUDE... Being a BLACK woman I am VERY passionate within the way I speak when it comes to DISRESPECT! KAREN (JANE) said that I was shouting at her when in fact I wasn't shouting, I was expressing my views on the AWFUL attitude of these women that works in that office. For me, it is VERY evident that KAREN & JANE clearly have a PROBLEM and
I will be taking this as FAR as I can take it! What a WEIRD, RUDE, and DISGUSTING experience to have!!! The way you start the day is a CHOICE, and KAREN JANE, JANE KAREN chose RUDENESS!!! CRAZY TIMES we are living in... Martin & Co need to re-train at least 2 of their staff (But in my humble opinion KAREN is DEFINITELY JANE!)
Very happy with Martin & Co experience
Whilst Martin & Co wasn’t my 1st choice agent.. Things changed and I ended up transferring to them. Henry Mitchell was brilliant - kept me informed along the full selling process and understood my needs along the way.. very impressed with the service and professionalism thanks so much Henry :-)
Martin and co albany road cardiff
Phoned albany road branch for a repair, I was told to email them and they will forward it to maintenance department. After
days I phoned to check on the progress of my request but sadly on the other side of the phone was very rude member of Staff called gabby, no help whatsoever was given then hanged up on me.
Very disappointed with the service
KAREN! My recent experience with the staff at…
Only this place only caters to non whites. My recent experience with the staff at Martin and Co was deeply disappointing and upsetting. The staff member Abbey I believe her name was displayed racially insensitive behavior, frequently using microaggressions that made me feel unwelcome and disrespected. Their tendency to raise her voices and belittle me during our interactions.
These behaviors are unacceptable in any professional setting. Microaggressions, whether intentional or not, create a hostile and uncomfortable environment. Raising one's voice and belittling customers or clients is not only unprofessional but also harmful to the recipient's dignity and self-worth.
I strongly urge the management to address these issues immediately. Staff training on cultural sensitivity, effective communication, and professional behavior is crucial to prevent such incidents in the future. Every individual deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, regardless of their race or background.

DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR PERSONAL DETAILS!!
I contacted Martin & Co for some info about a property in 2017, then later submitted a formal GDPR notice to erase my data.
5 years later in 2022, I suddenly received 2 marketing emails from them in 2 weeks. I replied, specifically stating the aforementioned facts and requested again to erase my data.
Now today, another year later in Aug 2023, not only do they send me an email about some football partnership they have with Newport City, but they seem to have passed my details on without my consent to Newport City football club themselves, because I received an email directly from them hours later too.
This is outrageous. I contacted them originally with a one-off enquiry and that was it, yet they still have my personal data 6 years later despite repeatedly exercising my GDPR rights with them. I am now filing a complaint with ICO for investigation. They are mishandling people's personal data and don't even bother replying to emails. Atrocious.
I’m hesitant giving one star!
I’m hesitant giving one star!
Roath branch are not only rude, they are incompetent.
Clearly need a lot more staff training, no one in the office knew the correct laws or how to deal with customers.
Stay clear if you want a happy life
Unreliable when it matters most
As most landlord will already know, renting is pretty quiet for the majority of the time, until it’s not. That’s when you’re really relying on your agents to step up. Under the leadership of CW, that was most definitely not the case. The situation caused me untold stress, caused unnecessary upheaval to both my tenants and I, and has left a very bad taste.
Great Company.
Was looking for a place to stay in Cardiff and a friend suggested contacting Martin & Co. Had an appointment to visit a few places, all in one day, and the agent (can’t remember her name) was soooo helpful, in spite of my tight schedule). I’ve been in my place for a few weeks now and have had a couple of niggles which were dealt with promptly so, so far so good. Must say I was surprised to read some of the negative comments when coming to write my review but personally, I am very impressed with the professionalism of this company. Obviously if things go awry down the road, I will update this review but from my experience, I’ll be surprised if it does.

Martin and Co are superb!
Martin and Co are a fabulous letting agent to deal with. I’m a landlord with a property that they have looked after for me for many years. Tenants are always well cared for, that flat is never empty and they communicate well and in a professional manner. The whole team take great pride in their work and as a result the customer service is superb. Thank you M&Co!

I did complete buying a property through Cardiff branch and it was a pleasant experience. Special thanks to Sales Consultant, Astrid Den Hartog who was very helpful right from the start to the finish. I have no hesitancy in recommending them.

Cardiff Martin & Co do a great job
I have used Martin & Co Cardiff for several years to manage a property I have that I let out. They are great at communicating anything to me, and swift to sort out any issues with tenants. We recently had a new tenant move in and replaced some of the old furniture in the few days the property was empty. Martin & Co sorted it all in time for the new tenants. I like not having to worry about anything and would recommend them.
Henry @ the Cardiff branch
