Home Emergency insurance worthless in practice
The cover proved to be worthless in practice.
The only time I had an emergency, MBNA/Allianz wriggled out of it by defining the capture of a squirrel on its way back into my home as prevention rather than removal of a pest (squirrels can be amazingly destructive in a short time). This was a weasel-like decision, in defiance of common sense, and I have little doubt that they would do something similarly dishonest if any other kind of emergency should suddenly arise. Needless to say - I did not renew. I also had my standard (as opposed to "Emergency") home and contents insurance with them, and decided to renew that because the renewal price was LOWER this year, and I thought the people handling any claim would not be the same! BUT ... then I read the many hundreds of terrible 1-star reviews for MBNA home insurance, and cancelled mid-term, switching to another insurer which gets GOOD reviews, for not much more money.
What an absolute bunch of scammers!
What an absolute bunch of scammers!
I got a loan and there there is no way to create an account to manage my loan. Support is non existant and I can not close my loan early!

Automated systems dont work
Why is it so hard to make a credit card payment. Ive now spent an hour trying to make payment im possible through my bank app as they're is sort or account number, online through the mbna this get so far and tells me to try later when do I go through the the details then it verify my payment card. I try phoning talk in all my details half the dont understand and im english and talk perfect english. When I get to the end they say there put me through to an agent there is a que so I give up. Why spend all the money on automated systems that never work and just annoy customs.
I ve given up trying to pay it, but there be very quick chase when its over due and levy charges. Its crazy

Having difficulty using card
Having difficulty using card, been with mbna for nearly 10 years. Got through to someone on the phone who basically had me login to my app and click the live chat option to wait 30 minutes to talk to someone who isn’t her 😂 feels like she just dodged doing her job, pathetic service
Appalling Customer Service Wait Times
I have a problem with a pending payment of 1600 euros on a hire car booked in Montenegro.
I need to get this sorted out as it affects the amount of credit available to me.
I first tried the MBNA chatline which is very frustrating because you have to get past the BOT before being passed on to a human being.
I then re-typed the same question that I'd previously written at the start of the chat conversation.
It took a whole 25 minutes before I got an actual human reply to my chatline question.
MBNA's chatline is possibly the slowest that I've ever had the misfortune to use in my life.
I then phoned their contact number and was greeted by the dreaded 'We are experiencing a higher volume of call than usual' lies!!
No you aren't, you just don't have sufficient staff to manage a normal volume of calls.
After 20 minutes on hold I finally spoke to a human being, who to be fair was very helpful.
I summary - I shall be cancelling my MBNA card that I've had for over 25 years based on this dire Customer Service and take my money elsewhere.
VISA switch chaos
The change from Mastercard to Visa is chaotic. No new card delivered but my account has already switched to a new card number and all my history has disappeared with it. The 'help' line was agonizingly slow, wrong and unhelpful. Will be dumping this card for another provider.
Customer service is appalling
Customer service is appalling
closing account as can't get though to anyone , even on chat!
Customer service is appalling
Customer service is appalling, virtual robots go around the mulberry bush, and when asked for a physical person, they say they will call you back. For that reason, I finally found a customer services number that states I could be on hold for 1 hour. Still waiting....closing both credit card accounts down, when I can finally get hold of someone. Never again!
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.
They used to be excellent, good service, easy to use app and helpful customer service...
... well... those days are longggg gone.
The T&C's are now really questionable and underhanded... in all my years of using 0% credit cards, I've not come across anything like it. (Nearly 20 years and dozens of cards).
The customer service is dire, slow, uncommunicative and completely unhelpful. You'll receive copy and pasted pieces of their T&C's and 30 minute plus wait times between messages... they'll also completely get your name wrong just to complete the 'experience'.
I have gladly moved to a 'proper' 0% card operator, who gives you 0% for the full term advertised and not just in the first 60 days...
Never again MBNA!
MBNA logged me out of my account and provide not enough information for me to successfully log in. Customer service is absolutely useless when I call. They can't help at all. In addition the security communication are send on paper via post and is not enough to reset my log on. I've been locked out of my account for a month now.
Biased complaints
I have had an MBNA visa card for many years with no problems however something has changed. My wife needed a reset of her pin number and we ertr first told she had to have a new card instead, MBNA then issues me a new card instead, I complained and was told instead they should have sent her a pin reminder so she could change the pin and again one was sent to me instead,
While this was going on MBNA tried on 3 occasions to force me to have their app one one occasion saying I would have trouble if I did not and on another saying it compulsory and on this occasion I said I wanted to speak to someone more senior to make a complaint and was told there was no-one more senior and it was there their policy that staff deal with complaints made against them thereselves
'
I was given a £25.00 credit for the problems with my wives card and told by their employee while still on the phone that my he had decided my complaint would not be upheld as it was bank policy to insist on use of their app
How can an organisation follow such a blatant policy of not having designated staff to deal with complaints
Truly dreadful experience
Truly dreadful experience. My parents' property had two insurances ongoing after their passing - one for contents and one for buildings. The contents people were understanding and accommodating. MBNA were the polar opposite. Not only is it very difficult to find a contact number to speak to someone and then get through to someone and when you do, you're met with indifference bordering on rude.
Their recordings say "We may record this conversation blah blah blah". I wish I had recorded it!
And they are very expensive. Before you renew, check online for better deals.
Old fashioned and insecure but hey generous credit line
Third time now I am waiting to receive a letter to reset my account and password because I am forced to navigate the hopelessly outdated and convoluted methods of creating and verifying my identity through the app (which seems to an old-school Lloyds Bank version that I had on my OG 2008 iPhone!).
I can imagine other customers - especially the elderly giving up and feeling compelled to dribble down their various login ids, rendering the three step process even less secure than competitors.
On the other hand, I did wonder why I was initially given such a large sum of credit (and low APR) but reading the 1-star reviews and based on my experience, I wonder if it’s because the British-based franchise is haemorrhaging customers?
DON'T GET A CREDIT CARD WITH MBNA
Avoid engaging with this company. Their handling of my claim was utterly unacceptable. I had a dispute concerning a defective item (very expensive and I can't use it) bought through Etsy with my credit card. Even after submitting ample well-organised evidence demonstrating that the products were not as described and making efforts to resolve the matter with the seller, my Section 75 claim was denied on the grounds that the payment was processed through Etsy. In light of the increasing number of individuals utilising these platforms, it is profoundly disappointing and indicative of poor customer service to interpret Section 75 applications in such a restrictive manner. I also consulted with the bank, and they agreed that the claim should not have been rejected (which I also provided evidence for). This excessively narrow interpretation of the transaction is unacceptable, as the contract was established with the individual seller rather than Etsy itself, and MBNA certainly has the discretion to take responsibility for supporting their customers, yet they chose not to.
The investigation concentrated on payment routing instead of the essence of the purchase and the contractual relationship. Be careful getting a credit card and pay for high valued items as you wont be protected if something goes wrong if you purchased your item via a "3rd party" - you effectively losing your consumer rights. The banks are also well aware that FOS rarely find in consumer's favour as they appear, in the majority of cases, to deem the consumer at fault making their role somewhat redundant and meaningless. The customer service, the outcome, and the absence of substantial support in addressing my issue has been in the gutter of the standard one should expect from such a large bank.
Quick response to a rogue payment
Quick response to a rogue payment made against my credit card. They were also onto it when I had fraudulent use of my card a few months ago. My only criticism is that you have to flag the disputed transaction within the app, which is a bit of a faff. A human interaction would have been a little easier and more reassuring. But the system does seem to work.
Fantastic customer service
Kristine Lawson in the complaints department fixed a minor issue with my card instantly with outstanding customer service, a lovely personality and attitude to customers. I could not be happier with the service provided and the response rate.
Awful service
Awful service, wish I’d read this prior.
Stopped my application despite me using the correct CAIS, then request proofs but want them mailed?
Are we living in the stone ages? Pathetic process and no work around, so I miss out on my credit card, have another hard search and nobody to contact.
I’m not even sure the FCA would deem this outfit fit for purpose.
