Called up today to cancel a ridiculous…
Called up today to cancel a ridiculous auto renewal price. Waited all of 2 mins to get through to be asked by the advisor to just do this online they are busy.
I’d paid 1 full year of insurance and apparently I don’t have the right to use the call centre.
She didn’t consider I couldn’t be calling because I’m not great with computers.
Odd service and clearly I’m not important enough to help.
Won’t use again.
0/10 business. Jokers.
Read these reviews they’re more than likely right. Disgusting company to have dealt with. Thought I was getting a 22 month interest free credit card but in the fine print it was only for 60 days the interest free period. Now I’ve been hit with interest fees. DO NOT use this company. I am searching for a balance transfer immediately!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS
AVOID! I was made homeless after a huge fire in the neighbouring block meant that the local authority had to evacuate surrounding properties whilst they undertook a very complex demolition of the building. Despite my MBNA insurance policy explicitly saying that they would pay for me to find alternative accommodation if my property became uninhabitable, they refused my claim. The only money I got from them was £50 after I complained about one of their exceptionally rude call handlers, who showed no empathy to my situation. I was displaced for 4 months and left on my own to find and pay for alternative accommodation, whilst having to continue to pay my mortgage. AVOID!
Terrible customer services
Customer services are absolutely dire. MBNA, wrongly, claimed I'd not made two credit card payments when they, clearly, showed on my transactions. Advisor I spoke to was clueless and passed me on to a department that doesn't answer calls and, then, blamed the bank for processing the payments incorrectly. On the phone for over an hour with no resolution and had to complain, which, I'm sure, will be, equally, pointless. I would go elsewhere if you're looking for a credit card. They have charged me interest and fees and impacted my credit score because their systems cannot detect payments accurately. Something pretty simple.

i have opened an account with them (credit card) i haven't even received the card i dont where!!! plus i was over the phone since the morning and noone has resolved my issue!!! The phone connection is broken again and again!!! just close my account!!!! Very annoying you wasted my an hour!!!!
Bad CX for home insurance
Bad CX for home insurance - cant have my policy documents via email, cant use online services unless you have another MBNA account, frustrating customer service.
Absolutely shocking!
Absolutely shocking!
I had not used my credit card for moths and months. (6 months) All of a sudden I got a transaction for lady GAGA tickets. (£429.09) For tickets at Maddison Square Garden New York. (I live in Lincoln UK). And the ticket was for 2 days later!!! (on my own in row whatever and seat whatever!)
The App never asked me to approve this! And it went through a scam website (VIAGOGO). I contacted MBNA on the day 24.08.25 whilst it was still pending. And they cancelled the card and told me it was reversed and sorted.
A month later I got a letter saying that they were recharging the payments to me, because they believed it to be me (After investigation??).
I asked what the investigation was....
They have your card number.
Address
Telephone number.
And name!!
WOW what a shocker!!!! Scammers can VERY easily get this info, but that`s the basis of the rejection.
So After calling them back for 1 hr 50 mins! I am no closer.
I did not make this purchase, so asked for an escalation, and was told 8 weeks wait for a manager to call me!!!! (Credulous!)
So complaint logged with the financial ombudsman.
Waist of time, they are a joke...SECURITY??? Where??
If I could score a 0 I would!
If I could score a 0 I would!
Please please please take note of all these bad reviews and use them as a massive red flag.
Worst insurance company I have ever spoken with. Theresa and Justine are probably the most horrible customer service people I have spoken to in my life.
Very discriminative towards age and immediately speak to you in the most awful, degrading and argumentative tone.
Very unhelpful, still no clearer with if they are going to help me or not but the journey so far from only 2 calls is the worst customer journey I have ever had.
Please please do not use this company and use a company that speaks to their customers in a dignified manner.
Not worth the hassle
Not worth the hassle if anything goes wrong.
I misunderstood their T&C's and paid off a purchase before my statement date. This led to interest getting allocated because they used my payment to remove a 0% rate I had running (which I had budgeted for and set up a DD to pay off in good time) instead of allocating the payment against my purchase which would have attracted interest if I hadn't paid it off. The VA system they had sends you around in circles for 10 minutes before asking if you want somebody real to look at your complaint. System will sign you out of your account even though you are typing into their VA. Every response from the "real" person appears to come from a different "real" name so it could still be AI at work through their VA. The response I eventually got left me in doubt about what they were saying was the resolution included cancelling payments and re-entering them. Anyway, rather than get involved in such a badly managed system I decided to pay the balance in full and take the loss as a lesson. Once I get the notification for my next statement and check it is clear I will (if I can find the option, which unlike other banks is not immediately obvious) close the card.
P.S. I then also had difficulty making a payment from a Debit Card direct to my MBNA account through their payment screens and had to set them up as a PAYEE in my bank and make the payment from my bank using faster payment.
Applied for a loan on Saturday
Applied for a loan on Saturday, received a copy of agreement which states funds will be in your account next working day. It is now Thursday and still no funds. I have phoned 3 times and each time I'm told I can’t speak to anyone in the loan department.
Over all bad service, lack of communication. Would not recommend.
Got renewal letter up from 28 to 34 a…
Got renewal letter up from 28 to 34 a month buildings insurance.
Same time got go compare quote same company for same insurance for 28 a month.
Why treat existing customers so badly
I tried to contact numerous times for nowhere so resolved to cancel day prior to expiry to obtain go compare quote to be told by virtual advisor I'd be charged cancellation fee! Unbelievable.
Complained and still no response.
Please do not use this company PLEASE
Please do not use this company. You always think it will never be you that the bad things happen to, but it ended up being me, Lie after lie after lie, told me I had been pre-approved, then left me hanging for 3 days on approval after applying, told me they had transferred the amount which they had not, they then claimed they had misplaced the £20,000 amount. Countlessly had to chase them for updates, to which after a week they told me they were never going to accept me because I changed my name 7 years ago after getting married.. Customer service was the worst, including the supervisors. Left me with an unnecessary hard search and a signed agreement to say I will repay the loan I never received, although told I did, and was never even accepted? They refuse to confirm the signed agreement is now void for my peace of mind but tell me it is. So there’s concern for that coming of something in future. Please go somewhere else, no matter the interest rate, it isn’t worth it !!
My house was broken into on the 18th of…
My house was broken into on the 18th of August. The door and window were smashed. They arranged for it to be boarded up but since then they have not done anything. I am still waiting for the "survey" and in the meantime i have to live in a house with a boarded up door reminding me of the break in every time I look at it. Sometimes it's not worth having insurance. I would have sorted it out on the same day
Not to be trusted - unclear small print
I took out what I believed was a 0% credit card for 22 months the small print is 0% for purchases in the first 60 days - disgusted that banks can still get away with unclear communication, fees hiding beneath countless pages of terms - do not use
Customer service brill…
So...have been with MBNA as a credit card for absolutely years and never had a problem. Bought house insurance recently and then read the reviews...panic!!! Needed to make a policy change so thought this would be a good time to put them to the test. Got through within 10 mins (Mon am so no doubt hectic) and was assisted efficiently and politely by someone who appeared to be based in England. Totally no issues. Thought would leave a review as sometimes it is only the negative that gets reviewed.
Don’t trust a word staff say
Don’t trust a word staff say! I took out another combined policy with MBNA, somehow I cancelled the ddi one month early? Not had the time to check! Anyway logged a complaint as I received a letter with a £35 cancellation fee?
Someone called Abby Plaister rang me and explained what had happened and the only thing I owed was one payment and that someone could call me to make the payment. This lunch time I received a letter stating the opposite of what was agreed so another complaint pending to the company so that the phone call can be addressed! What a horrendous situation. Re: 18478709
Poor dealing with disabled, deaf etc
MBNA are great when dealing with your own affairs but absolutely awful when someone has to speak for a disabled person. My mum had a right fiasco trying to sort something for my dad who is totally deaf. They insisted on him being sat with her so she had to shout all the questions at him. Nothing added to their security policy as any male could have been sat answering. So ridiculous.
Totally useless in an emergency
I made a claim on my MBNA home insurance policy for a burst indoor water pipe. I wasn’t given a claim number and was told I’d have to contact two separate claim companies: MBNA and Allianz (home emergency) - one to sort trace and access, one to sort the repair. It was Friday night, hot water was gushing all over my wooden floor and the repair helpline was closed over the weekend.
The customer assistant was extremely vague and unhelpful.
I later spent over an hour on the phone to an equally surly, unintelligent, unhelpful assistant who advised that regarding repairs to plaster damage, it could take up to 12 weeks to receive a quote (goodness knows how long to do the repair) but if we got our own quotes, there was no guarantee they’d be accepted by MBNA.
Incidentally, when Allianz (under the MBNA contract) sent the annual renewal notice for home emergency, they arrogantly omitted to state how much the new annual premium would be and didn’t inform me (after two requests) until after the new contract had commenced. Is this legal?
MBNA is the most unprofessional, ineffective and unreliable home insurance company I’ve ever dealt with in 40 years.
Terrible company for Home Insurance
Terrible company for Home Insurance
Avoid at all costs
Customer service is awful, cancelled policy within 1 day and went with Hastings. I suggest you go with literally anyone else if you want home insurance
I have never had to phone them before…
I have never had to phone them before done it all on line today I did balance transfer from another card to them to the amount pending was showing as incorrect by 60 pence not a lot but it’s the principal it is not correct amount .
A person answered the phone didn’t speak to begin with !! Then when I said to him about it I felt he was guiet rude spoke like I was some kind of idiot !!
Wasn’t happy with is response made me feel unworthy like I shouldn’t have rang and told me if you use the app there is a 24/7 text message service how rude !!!
I prefer realy to speak to a human where money is concerned and feel very upset and angry he made me feel like that he hung up after no bye no can I help you with anything else !!! How rude 1 star rating wouldn’t recommend if you need to speak ok if you can do it all online on your own .seems humans don’t want you to speak on the phone at MBNA
