Review of National Tyre Centre Weston-super-Mare
After a lot of price comparing, I selected the tyres I wanted for my van and found that the National Tyres branch at Weston-super-Mare gave the best price and went there to have the tyres fitted.
Prior to fitting the tyres, I was offered a complimentary tracking check. Following this check, I was contacted and advised that the tracking was out by 6 degrees and that failure to correct this would result in excessive tyre wear. I was quoted £55 to carry out the adjustment.
As my van was due for a routine service, I declined and explained that I would ask my regular mechanic to assess the issue. I was then offered a £10 reduction if I agreed to have the work done immediately, which I again declined.
Afterwards, I researched the matter and noted that a 6-degree tracking error would be considered significant. I also found that the typical cost for wheel tracking adjustment at local independent garages is around £30, which is considerably lower than the price quoted.
I then had the vehicle inspected by my regular mechanic, who was surprised by the claim. The van was placed on a tracking ramp at a separate tyre outlet, where the tracking was found to be within specification. To rule out equipment error, the ramp was tested using a vehicle with a known tracking fault, after which my van was rechecked with the same result: no tracking adjustment was required.
This raises concerns regarding the accuracy of the tracking assessment carried out by National Tyre Centre. Additionally, as National Tyres is part of the Halfords Group, it was disappointing to later receive a follow-up email reminding me of a fault that independent checks confirmed did not exist.
Based on my experience at the Weston-super-Mare branch, I would advise customers to carefully consider any recommended additional services and, if unsure, seek an independent second opinion.

Absolutely USELESS. Do not use unless you want hassle.
Booked tyres and paid online, but it wasn’t booked in by their web site? Went to the branch who knew nothing. Said I needed to call customer services but never gave me a number. They also said they were 'used' to these online problems!!
Took me a week to get my money back! 3 weeks later they email me to say I’m booked in 3 weeks ago!
Now they want a review! I’d give no stars if I could. I will never use again and suggest you don’t either, at least NOT online!

Went to Weston branch due to past quality work. This time tho not the case. When I had 4 tyres fitted to my wheels when I got home I noticed damage on 3 wheels so rang the centre was told to pop in Monday to speak to the manager.
Monday, manager wasn’t happy that I’d contact customer service via email then tried to tell me the marks on my wheels are due to hitting curbs. I’d stated that one of the alloys has small markings on from a car wash incident. Now my old tyres didn’t have a mark on them from touching any curbs.
My wheels except 1 was mint! Typical got the tyre shop next door to look at my wheels (suspect pre warned of my turning up) he looked over it and pointed to the spokes having what looks like curb marks to him. Missed the part between where paint has flaked off due to poor tyre fitting.
Then the manager got me into the workshop by the tyre machine and tried to show me the tools used and a plastic guard (supposed to help protect the wheels from the head of the machine) I stated was that guard used to his reply yes… yet he wasn’t in that day. So he couldn’t confirm this. I’d pointed this out….
he flipped out and pretty much square up to me. Professional behaviour from management hey..
I’d then had a call from the area manager this morning and got the same story. Curb damage…. I’d stated if those wheels were previously damaged why wasn’t I informed before work was carried out or even pictures taken time/dated. I was at the centre waiting…
I’m an engine machinist and repairs, any vehicle before it comes in the workshop gets checked over and customer informed before vehicle work is started.. common sense if you ask me.

I met the new Centre Manager, Ray. He was very polite and friendly. He had given me an idea of how long it would take. The work was carried out quickly and efficiently, a bit quicker than his estimate, which was great. I had paid online, so there was no additional payment to make, but I did receive a printed receipt. The waiting area was a bit sparse and could do with a radio or TV to brighten it up. A drinks machine would be good as well!
I would recommend National and particularly Ray, to anyone.

Chose the added tyre protection for £7.99, which will save me nearly £200 a tyre if I get a puncture, well worth it.
