“Main Dealer Only” fault message resolved quickly
I drive a Mercedes that presented the dreaded “Collision Prevention Assist Plus Inoperative” message. This is an MOT fail so cannot be ignored.
My usual garage charged me £48 to plug into their diagnostic kit, but said that they cannot clear it and it must go to a Main Dealer or possibly a Body Repair shop. I phoned many garages, all which said it must go back to Mercedes Main. The main dealer would not take phone calls, only Whatsap messages. After a few messages, they told me that it would be £228 for Diagnosis. I asked if that would definitely clear the message. I was told that I misunderstood- the £228 was for diagnosis, and to clear will be a further £228! Of course, any underlying faults would have to be rectified at their very significant labour charges and part prices.
I eventually found New Duston Garage and spoke to “Richard”, I think the owner. He was very patient and assured me they would sort it. He estimated £171 and I agreed, while suspecting that it would not work.
They are busy, so took about 4 weeks for a slot, I delivered the car in the morning and received a call that afternoon to say it is sorted. It took just over one hour, so the bill was only £114, for which I was grateful.
I would definitely recommend them, first class, professional, polite and patient service.
