Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 163 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. People frequently struggled with the login process, mentioning complicated security checks, photo identification requirements, and technical errors that constantly blocked access to their accounts. Consumers also found the layout poorly designed and difficult to navigate, making it extremely hard to locate medical records or book appointments. Though some people mentioned that ordering repeat prescriptions worked well and appreciated being able to contact their doctor online without calling. Others felt the system was gradually progressing over time and found certain features very useful once they successfully logged in.

Doesn't contain enough information to be useful

Had hoped that when we created an account for my husband we would be able to see his hospital test results. No such luck! These remain a well-kept secret with the hallowed few medical professional we have contact with who give us only scant details. My husband has a complex condition and it would be REALLY USEFUL as we try and navigate this to be able to know/see his results and the trends. Meanwhile appointments come through in a haphazard mishmash of formats: sometimes a text requesting a variety of log in info dependent on which department it is ....sometimes a paper letter...and certainly not all showing on the NHS App. I am pretty tech savvy and intelligent but even I struggle to keep up. Leaves me wondering what actual use is the NHS app???

Appalling

Had an accident Sep 2025 . Seen at LGI . Since been seen at Huddersfield hospital, Calderdale Royal, Broad Street .
I have not received one letter , no X-ray Ct scan MRI etc results from anyone. Spoke to my GP surgery I have to ring each place , records department, and request them. No one answers the phone .
11 month later and I’m still waiting

NHS App is getting more user friendly 🤗

The app is getting a lot more user friendly, with key information that’s now accessible.
Very handy for test results/ checking referrals.
It’s a better system now being able to contact the Gp online, rather than scrambling to call at 8am and being 20th in the queue.
Whenever I’ve submitted anything to my GP I get a call back within the hour.
I use the NHS app frequently and it’s progressing 🙏🤗

I have been trying for 3 years to…

I have been trying for 3 years to verify myself. I have a driving licence and a passport but can't get the video recording to them. Ridiculous. I am quite technology minded but this is absolutely horrendous. Even though the girl in citizens advice, who thinks the app i s brilliant, couldn't verify me.

Locked out by A.I software because I can't recognise humans

Worst app ever if you get locked out of uour email and their A.i can't recognise your I.D.
What the NHS don't realise that we are patients and humans, not computer geniuses I.T experts or chat bots...youd need a degree in computing to log back into your own account, so no wonder the NHS is not trusted, I wouldn't trust their dodgy app or the safety of my health records on such a corrupted A.I system

Completely useless

Completely useless. Does not accept the new password that I have just created!
I have tried several times over the years to use this app and never get anywhere.
I just give up. Uninstalled.

Frustrating

Frustrating, slow, repetitive, barely fit for purpose.
Despite having up to date log in details, I could not access my account. After 20 frustrating minutes, it then asked for photo ID!! I will just go into my surgery, this app is not good for my stress levels

This app is irresponsibly dangerous

This app is irresponsibly dangerous. I have an urgent letter from my hospital but I am in Devon so can't receive a confirmatory validation code. It's all very well saying that you have to have a strong mobile signal but there's not much that anyone can do about that. The security procedures are now so complicated that people over 80 like me really struggle to get through them. This is dangerous, there's no other word for it. What a dreadful way to make people really, really anxious and distressed.

The NHS app is confusing and difficult…w

The NHS app is confusing and difficult to navigate! Subject matters are frequently subdivided and not easily found. Might be easier to find if same related consultations, tests, appointments etc were crossed reference to each other! A number of comments are made but no identification to say who they are from, or to whom. Patients notes not always updated!! Half a star for the ability to re-order prescriptions online 👏

Can take weeks before appointment notes are updated, giving the impression no action has been taken! Also, there’s no indication specialist notes have been forwarded to GP - left in limbo!

Absolute joke just like everything else with the NHS

Just like everything else with this outdated throw away public health service , this app is a joke.
Finally after months and months of trying to log in without error being displayed i finally got in.
It was asking for photo I.D which i have none of.
After i stated i have no photo I.D it asks me to provide photo I.D.
Just a pain in the backside .

Where is NHS boss to care & do something about the app

Is there anyone at the top of NHS/ government who cares to read all these NEGATIVE review/feedback to/about NHS app- Why no one does anything about it.
The app is utterly confusing, complicated and typical making things so difficult , As NHS worker myself and fairly good with IT, one year old mobile, I simply can not get NHS app working

Impossible to sign up. Got to stage 8 (?) and they wanted a video of myself, no idea what that means, how done ? format ? requested support, got none.

Abandoned process. Overly complicated. Unresponsive.
Useless.

Can't give less than one star

Well, this company could improve by ceasing to exist.
Problems trying to log into the site originally which was thankfully sorted by my GP's receptionist. Now I find I cannot make a blood test appointment which was so easy with Swiftqueue. Next, tried to use the app to cover a family member but have to contact my surgery to allow it to happen.

Been using Swiftqueue for years, no problem.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Ever Increasing Circles

The app people (artificial idiocy?) tell me my problem is my doctor's IT system. My doctor says it's the NHS app. There is no way I can circumvent this impasse -meanwhile my medication gets sent to the wrong county! & No-one takes any notice of my pleas for change of pharmacist -with full details each time.
I used to be able to select a pharmacy each time I requested a prescription, but that option disappeared last year. Since then I've been trying to get the option back. Apparently the NHS app people think this is caused by my being prescribed some compression socks! Apparently they have the magical quality of removing my ability to choose my pharmacist FOREVER!!! Nobody else understands/believes this and nobody cares to do anything about it!
I would love to be able to be positive about our NHS, but my experience of the last 30yrs is that it's a 3rd rate service which undermines patients AND staff. On top of that, it can't do IT to save its life (nor any of its patients). So sad.
