Premium Rate Text Issue
Same experience as many others. Booked a restaurant through OpenTable. Couple of days later I received a text asking me to confirm reservation - no mention that the response would be charged at a Premium Rate.
Scam!
They charged me £0.13 to to confirm my reservation by replying to a text, but did not say it was a premium number. Total scam, book direct with the resturant.
Open table is not safe
Open table has clearly been hacked as I was victim of a scam where the scammer knew the restaurant , date and time of my reservation. My card provider acted brilliantly to protect me and said that this scam was happening a lot at the moment. Open table's website says there site is secure and they have not answered my email to them.
Premium charge texts
Like others, I was sent a text from Opentable asking me to confirm my booking. When I replied to confirm, I was charged 15p for sending my reply to them. No warning of the charge. I’ve no doubt there is a warning buried deep in their Terms and Conditions, but this is sharp practice.
Charging for unsolicited texts.
I didn't realise that this was open table as I rang to book direct. Was happy paying the deposit although the restaurant didn't tell me one was payable. However was not happy with later texts that would have cost me to reply to. Unreasonable and unacceptable.
Another one adding to the complaints…
Another one adding to the complaints about the premium rate text. At no point was I adequately informed about this cost
Completely frustrating and a waste of…
Completely frustrating and a waste of time. Made a reservation but could never log into my account and it won't allow me to create a new one with my phone number. Absolutely no way to speak with a human being to resolve the problem. 3 weeks later and I still can't get in. Once you automate something to the point where you offer ZERO customer service, you no longer deserve to have a business!
Unacceptable premium rate text
I too agree that being charged a premium rate to confirm a booking is unacceptable. It refects poorly on both Open Table and the restaurant chain using them.
premium rate text to 'confirm' booking…
premium rate text to 'confirm' booking - will ask restaurant to use someone else
Premium rate texts just not accepatble with no warning.
Be upfront with the premium rate texts that are charged to your account when replying to a text from you to confirm the booking. It really is poor service. Look at all these one star reviews. Does that not tell you something?
Unwanted chargeable texts
Like many others opentable triggered a charge for confirming that I would be turning up to my restaurant booking. I appreciate why restaurants use this service but as a customer I think the cost benefit is with the restaurant and therefore it is for them to cover opentable’s costs.
Charging for texts that weren't requested
I've booked using OpenTable twice, both times at the Garden Restaurant at RHS Gardens Wisley. Both times I was charged 15p for receiving a text from OpenTable that I did not request. This is unacceptable and appalling behaviour from a corporate entity. The RHS should stop using them in my opinion. Another reason the RHS should stop using them is the functionality of the OpenTable booking system. We wanted a table for five people for breakfast but OpenTable said no tables were available. We know that restaurant well and so booked for four people (which it accepted immediately), turned up, and there were plenty of tables where a fifth person could be accommodated. The OpenTable website clearly uses an algorithm that can't be adaptable. What's worse is that the restaurant was almost empty that breakfast morning. I wonder how many people trying to book for five or six were rejected and losing the RHS valuable income. I will never use OpenTable again and will phone the restaurant in future.
Charged for Text Replies
charged to REPLY to their text message to confirm my booking. Not informed it was a Premium Rate Service and that there would be a charge.
Charges for reply texts unacceptable
Booking was easy but totally disagree with having to pay charges for a reply txt to OpenTable who requested a confirmation, cancellation or STOP reply txt for a restaurant booking.
Great North African food
Great reasonably priced food and wonderful friendly service. Highly recommended
Like many others I booked a table and…
Like many others I booked a table and received a text asking for confirmation. I was charged premium rate for this text. Have written to the restaurant and it seems they were not aware of this practice. Very poor.
Annoying Charges !!!
Really annoyed I got charged to reply to a text to confirm my booking. I've texted STOP so I dont get any more but they charged me for that too !!!
Booked a table and it was closed
Booked a table, arrived at the restaurant on time and it was closed! Completely screwed up our evening as no other restaurants in the area. Opentable is not fit for purpose.
Don't bother... OpenTable confirm the booking but the restaurant has no record of the reservation!
I reserved a table for 6 diners using the OpenTable link on the restaurant's website and received both an e-mail confirming the reservation and confirmation in the OpenTable app. About 90 minutes before the scheduled reservation my wife rang the restaurant to ask if it was possible to add an additional diner. She was told that the venue had no record of the reservation and as the restaurant was exceptionally busy it was not possible to cater for our party (at all). I rang the restaurant and provided the booking confirmation number and despite this the restaurant still told us that there was nothing that they could do... appalling customer service!
Update: the restaurant manager has just called to confirm that they have now found the reservation after seeing our negative review!
Scam text from OpenTable
Received text from OpenTable, they expected me to pay a premium rate to reply and confirm my booking. Scam company. If your restaurant is using OpenTable then tell them it's a rip-off and they will start losing customers.
