Preying on people…
I Found that elderly friend had small dd with them but they recently contacted her for £90. Apparently for a year, have tried to contact them through numbers supplied on website and by her bank to no avail, cancelled dd. Companies house has it as a private Ltd company with a registered address in Croyden with 1 director only, address in India
Scammed my elderly grandmother out of…
Scammed my elderly grandmother out of £139 p/m direct debit, I managed to catch it after the first payment and cancel the direct debit but Opton refused to refund the monies. They claimed it was to block nuisance calls but what an absolute outrage. I've since contacted the bank and I'm hoping we can get the money back for her.
Obvious sub-continent scammers
Obvious sub-continent scammers. Okay, that's to be expected. What is annoying is that our government couldn't care less about pursuing these criminals -- they let them register at Companies House, have a legal telephone line ... I'll never vote Conservative again, although Labour will probably be just as bad.
Targetting vulnerable
They managed to talk my elderly mother who has dementure into a £140/m contract and get bank details out of her. She doesn't use the internet so god only knows what they talked her into subscribing to. No written contract received to date. Their contact number doesn't work and their complaint form is undeliverable. Shame on regulators for allowing these companies to exist
Total scam
Total scam. I was cold-called by someone claiming to be Christopher Donny from "the call blocking department". I asked what company it was, and he said Opton. Further questioning and the complete company name was Opton Telecom. I called them while he was on the line, and the operator had no clue about the company and gave me another number for the sales team. I called that, and the guy who answered by the name Micheal said thousands of people are working in the company, so it would take time to verify if Christopher worked for them.
So, I checked their filed accounts with Companies House (the company number on their website is 07196100). One director is listed (home address is in India), and one employee (the director) is listed. Okay, they might rely heavily on contractors, but with a turnover of £100k, that's nowhere near enough to pay the "thousands" of salespeople.
This scam is still going on
This scam is still going on - why hasn’t someone stopped this? They called my vulnerable elderly mum today stating they were from Opton Telecom - which I asked them to spell as I could not understand the strong foreign accent ( which was a slight warning sign) the young woman explained they were a call blocking service to stop nuisance calls and foreign scam calls - what an audacity as this is exactly what they are doing - trying to scam vulnerable people - please do not entertain this company just put the phone down and report them to Trading standard so they can be shut down once and for all.
A total scam and uncontactable
A total scam and uncontactable. Do not fall for this.
Scam so bad I felt scammed
Come on Opton, if you are going to try and scam someone at least pretend to be from a company they might be with.
I'm very disappointed in the level of scaminess I received. I stayed on the line with them for nearly 2 minutes and I wasn't even a penny down by the end of the call!
The fact they gave up on me after I repeatly just went "who are Opton Telecom?" shows very poor commitment to the scam. Throw me a bone man, just make something up! Very poor entertainment value, I've received a much higher class of scam from other companies.
Shouldn't receive any stars
Shouldn't receive any stars! How is this legal? From a Cold Call I was told they were upgrading my call blocking service - when I asked many questions about who they were and what my existing services were with them - they simply hung up!
Avoid this company!
Avoid this company!
I was cold called by this company who claimed that they were going to reinstate my obsolete call barring system wit their improved service.
Following some (pointless) sales patter they asked me for some billing details for which I would get a helpline number. When I asked for the helpline number first the supervisor eventually gave me a non existant number. She hung up when I pointed out that the number was incorrect.
They are just after your money, with no evidence of anything real or trustworthy.
Scam artists, should be in prison
This happened in 2019, but recent reviews indicate that this disgusting bunch are still in operation, so here goes. They scammed my 90 year old recently widowed grandmother in October 2019, telling her that they were her existing telephone company and she needed to update her plan with them. This was not true, but, being 90 and in an incredibly vulnerable state of mind, she believed it and signed the DD mandate. They then took the princely sum of £129 from her account, despite her being legally declared not compos mentis and therefore legally incapable of signing a DD mandate. Being scammed in this way absolutely devastated my grandmother. It was one last thing in a chain of horrific things that had happened to her, and she passed away a month later. I absolutely hold Opton Telecom responsible for the rapid decline in her mental health in the last month of her life, and for giving our family more needless bureaucracy at a time when we were already inundated with the admin that follows when someone passes away. None of us wanted to spend our time sorting out how to extricate my grandmother from a bunch of immoral scam artists, given that we were all grieving. We reported this 'company' to Citizens' Advice, Ofcom and Action Fraud UK, but nothing was done, despite the plethora of testimonies online about them scamming vulnerable elderly people, and taking money from people who are legally incapable of signing a DD mandate. This is flagrantly illegal, and it disgusts me, even 3 years later, knowing that they're still in operation.
I hope that my grandma's quality of life and the trauma we all experienced in the last month of it was worth the £129.
one star too many. Rip off merchants
one star too many.
praying on vulnerable elderly people making them think that they are for BT by saying BD very quickly.
taking bank details on the pretext of stopping scammers (biggest scammers themselves)
something at watch dog needs to be done about this company
I eventually got through to a call system and kindly informed the man (nothing gentleman about him) and reiterated if he tries to take a penny from my mum's account i will take his sorry 4rse to court.
hopefully we can stop this before too many prople are scammed.
Scammers…
This company prey on elderly vulnerable people. They need to be avoided at all costs. They managed to ‘obtain’ a substantial amount of money from my mother-in-law and when I called to challenge them they said they had all the necessary documentation- which was not forthcoming and when I requested a recording or note of the call they refused! Absolute scammers.Avoid at all costs.
Avoid if possible
Very forceful sales claiming to be a renewal.Dodges questions on their performance guarantees. Quick to get & check bank details. Said could not send paperwork until bank details correct. Did not want me to check company before I agreed to anything. For nuisance callers I am a nuisance responder if not busy. All bank details etc. given looked legit but were fiction which meant I wasted more of his time as he failed to access my bank account.
Beware!
Beware: hard sell tactics used on elderly parents. Gained bank details on the promise that they were cheaper.
Legally a company, but unethical/bullying working practices. Do not engage with this company!
SCAM SCAM SCAMMERS
Part of TPS, why would they continue to try to scam me to move my telephone to them. I had to tell them 3 times and only after getting details from them and mentioning about complaining did the hang up. SCAM SCAM SCAMMERS
This scam is still running
This scam is still running, beware!
My sister in law was direct debited without any written approval. This is confirmed by her bank who are restoring over £100 to her account. She is not computer literate, does not use her debit card yet they managed full bank details and the setting up of a direct debit, she not having signed anything. The DD form (STILL BLANK) sent to her for completion only showed part of her address correctly. DO NOT COMPLETE AND RETURN, UNLESS YOU WANT IT AND IT IS FROM YOUR BANK.
Con merchants
This company are con merchants, par excellence . They managed to con me until I was told I made a verbal agreement , I told them I had agreed to nothing however they did manage to con me to find which bank I used, I did not give them any account details but they managed about 3 weeks later to take money from my account luckily I noticed it very quickly and the money was taken back my bank also cancelled the direct debit but about 2 hrs they had set up another direct debit using a different bank of theirs. Not a good state of affairs as it means having to check for payments daily. They said they would send a letter 3 weeks ago which never arrived. These people are not only conmen but serious scammers
SCAMMERS
I was contacted by David (not his real name) claiming to be calling on behalf of this company. He wanted to help!! me prevent my telephone blocking service from expiring this very same day (shocker). He told me he required me to get a copy of my bank statement so that I could give him some details. He then passed me on to his supervisor. This gentleman who neglected to introduce himself asked me to give him the direct debit details for my phone service provider. All in order to stop a service, that I didn't realise was a thing, from expiring. The supervisor was unable to tell me who my service provider was and so I suggested that I was not happy releasing any information to him that might be found on my bank statement. It was at this point that the supervisor started shouting at me and asking if I knew who I was talking to (I didn't as he hadn't introduced himself). I asked him to go away (not the words I used) and terminated the call.
Ironic that the calls they were suggesting their service would prevent is exactly the call I was engaged in.
This is clearly a scam company. Avoid like COVID.
