Waste of time

I have been purchasing photographic equipent in Photosound for many years and I believe in supporting local businesses, so when I decided to sell my medium format camera I asked a salesman if he would be interested in buying it. He said that he would be very interested and asked me to fetch it in for an assessment.
A couple of weeks later I took the camera and accessories in for assessment and was told by a different salesman that, despite the fact that it was in mint condition and, despite the fact that similar items were selling for £800-£1000 on-line, he wasn't prepared to take a 'gamble' and advised me to sell it privately on ebay.
Why couldn't I have been told that in the first place instead of lugging the items all the way into town? What a complete waste of time and effort.
The lesson to learn is this: if you have items to sell, don't bother trying to support local businesses, just list them on ebay and let the high street die a natural death.
