Struggling to understand negative…

Struggling to understand negative reviews, unless they're all old?

Have used PlayOn for a few weeks now and wish I had discovered it earlier. A few quirks due to be being in Australia and PlayOn services in US, but hasn't held me back.

Support, when I've reached out, has been friendly prompt and reliable.

Would happily recommend to anyone.

Scam

I purchased a "PlayOn Plus Lifetime" license years ago, but the company has since introduced new subscription plans that offer the same features. They replaced the original software with a new version that mimics the old one, yet prevents it from launching on Windows 10/11—even with compatible system tools. Attempting to install the original software on a virtual machine fails because it can't access their servers. This feels deceptive and raises serious legal concerns.

There is ZERO support these days

There is ZERO support these days. The service works much of the time even though there are issues that they should fix (i.e. if you loose internet, it cycles through your entire queue with failed download messages instead of pausing recordings).

Issue is when a particular channel stops working, there's no support, no notifications, no responses written to their support email...

Now going on 10 days with non-functional AppleTV + every other days emails to their support mail ID. So far, their promised 48 hr response messages have resulted in ZERO actual replies.

Will be looking for alternatives instead of renewing. Glad I didn't buy a lifetime license - oh wait, I did buy buy until they revoked those for everyone by launching a new service model.

Screwed up TWO computers!

I have two Win10 computers. I tried to install Playon.tv on both of them, and with both, got the message that the program requires Windows Media Player 9, which I discovered is no longer supported by Microsoft. I tried finding the old version of WMP and couldn't. In addition, my attempt to install Playon.tv severely messed up BOTH computers, causing me MANY HOURS of wasted time. Youtube videos would play for 59 seconds--and then stop. I finally did a system restore on one computer, and after that, neither Brave nor Chrome would open. At all. I had to download Brave to a flash drive from my second computer and then install it on my first computer. If I hadn't had TWO Win10 computers, I would have been in dire straits.
Youtube videos STILL play for 59 seconds and then stop, like it does have a connection. Both computers are still messed up. Why, oh, why didn't I check Trustpilot before I tried to install these horrible programs! I see others have had horrible experience with them, too.
PS - I did a system restore on one computer, and the youtube playback problem still exists!

I bought a lifetime pass for PlayOn…

I bought a lifetime pass for PlayOn desktop they will not allow installation on Win11 and the in app browser is too outdated to access Netflix so it’s effectively useless for what I purchased it for. They have done this willfully and I will never purchase from them or anyone affiliated with them again.

As many others have stated they are crooks and liars. Sold me a "lifetime" subscription then later failed to honor it. They really should not be allowed to sell their stuff in the United States. Terrible company.

No support for Hulu Live TV ..

No support for Hulu Live TV ... so forget recording Sports and skipping the useless commentary and commercials.

Only records one show at a time ... and very PC resource intensive at that ... I have a high end Samsung Laptop with 16 GB memory and high end CPU and it struggles to record full HD (1080p) and often has delays through out every recording.

One recoding at a time ... even though most content providers allow multiple concurrent streams.

PlayOn is pushing their "Cloud" version and clearly not enhancing or fixing the Home/PC version.

PlayOn will take your money, but don't expect the product to work or get fixes when you encounter issues.

Time for a Class Action

Purchased a lifetime subscription back in 2018 when they offered a lot more channels that worked occasionally. The service was never that great to begin with and the quality of the recordings always sucked.
Now they are in breech of the terms of their lifetime subscription contract. Those who purchased a lifetime subscription and are interested in a class action suit should get together.
These companies need to learn their lesson. Time to bankrupt these jerks!

SupportLESS!

By their description, it sounded like a great product. I paid, I downloaded the software & installed the app.

When I tried to open it I received an error which informed me that I must click on a link & follow their instructions for properly enabling the cookies that PlayOn requires to operate.

I was routed to Microsoft's browser "Edge" which I hate. Had to spend more time & resources doing that. Once finished with that, it opened a site "HowToEnableCookies" which, just my luck, was an available domain name that they were prepared to sell me!

I have literally spent hours messing around trying to make this work.

Opened their ?Support? Ticket. After days waiting for help found a response to my email that they were refunding my money & after a few days I should check my visa to make sure the refund is reflected in my activity.

I clicked the Ticket number linked in the email & see with this solution, the agent marked my issue "Resolved".

Oh yes, he also asked that I consider buying their products again in the future.

With the ticket number, I was at least given access to there Community Forum where I was allowed to search for additional support.

I can't see a single post from a customer that is more recent than two years old.

I can't believe I fell for this TIMESUCK.

Kinda glad I purchased a quarterly plan. Also used PayPal, which makes getting your money back easier if there are problems. However, I am pretty happy with Playon’s performance so far. It did however take 4 days to answer a question. If there are no further performance issues, I will probably purchase another quarterly plan, but def will stay away from the Lifetime Plan.

Never mind the fact that they sabotaged…

Never mind the fact that they sabotaged the so-called "lifetime" subscription to force you to pay annually again, I logged a support call 5 days ago and only now just got an answer. Oh, and it's not actually an answer come to think of it, it's more like a question... Sorry for the (5 day) delay in responding, can you try again? If it's still a problem, can you give more information? This is a complete scam! a 5-day response for support is unacceptable, and then to ask if this is still a problem? Having been in IT myself my whole life, as a minimum, they could have just looked at the log files to see what went wrong, they didn't even bother to do that, or I wouldn't get these inane types of questions. I still have outstanding recording credits with them, but they will never ever see another penny from me!

Blatant Violation of Lifetime Contract

I hope everyone who reads this will contact JEFF LAWRENCE, the CEO of MediaMall (owner of PlayOn).
He can be reached at: JEFF at PLAYON dot TV
HE needs to fix this issue many are complaining about for over 4 years now.
I purchased a PlayOn Lifetime and PlayLater Lifetime for $59.99 back in April 2015.
LIFETIME means MY LIFETIME.
They chiseled away this product so that PlayLater doesn't exist and much more importantly the key ROKU APP completely disappeared.
The replaced the Roku app by throwing me upsell (ad) icons in my tray area (lower right corner) to purchase PlayOn Home because the server app sees that I don't have the Roku app anymore (GEE, I WONDER WHY!!!)
So the PlayOn Desktop app is less than half what it used to be.
How can anyone like PlayOn after seeing they did this to thousands of their customers.
(I've been using the free version of EMBY which is actually much better than the crippled PlayOn Desktop that I have now. Try it!!! Their Roku app works great!!!)
I wrote PlayOn customer service to demand my money back because they severely violated their contract.
The argument started with them over them trying to use a tray icon (PlayOn for Roku) to upsell me (to PlayOn Home). When clicked on that tray icon always opens a webpage for PlayOn Home and has absolutely no other function. They refused to fix that and gave me a lame suggestion to turn off (hide) the notification, BUT the problem is that hiding doesn't disable or unload the ad process from using memory and CPU and I DO NOT WANT A 100% AD PROCESS RUNNING ON MY PC!!!
I DIDN'T PAY ALMOST $60 FOR ADS!!!!!!

Not a quality company

As you can see from other users of their product Playon has decided it's in their best interest to stop honoring lifetime licenses. I'm another one of those they left in the lurch. If your looking for a quality company that stands behind it's products you might want to look else ware.
