I signed back up in May 2023 and this…

I signed back up in May 2023 and this is the first time I have felt very disappointed with this location. 4 machines have been out of use since I started back up. The general cleanliness of the place has hugely dropped. Chewing gum is stuck to the same machine bottle holders. There doesn't seem to be many suitable classes available. I don't see the number staff like I used to. I would like to mention James who has always been very helpful and pleasant. Such a shame as this gym used to be so good all round.

Really great gym!

Both my daughter and I joined together. We have been going about 4 times a week and it's great.
Always clean and tidy and everyone is friendly.
Wish I had joined long ago.

Understaffed and no manager found.

I find that the gym is very understaffed, especially when trying to contact a manager about my membership, every time I have been in, no manager is in and have been told there’s only one, so when I try and come in at alternative times ,they are never there. Classes are also bad and cancelled a lot, I’ve been a member for over 2 years and the past few months it has gone downhill. I used to come with a friend, but they cancelled their membership due to this. I’m thinking of doing the same. Needs more staff and classes which aren’t cancelled

I feel you could be losing out on…

I feel you could be losing out on potential new gym members, when there is no staff, quite difficult for people to come and look around. Also, although, service users are informed when there is no staff, I worry this could lead to health and safety issues, too much time is spent of service users working things out for themselves, staff differ in the level of detail provided, on induction, more consistency is required in explaining how to use the equipment. Also classes should offer alternative options for lower level not everyone can do higher level impact, also this could lead to injury.

Nice atmosphere although does get a bit…

Nice atmosphere although does get a bit manic at times so can't guarantee the use of some machines when you want them , only other thing is I would prefer better air conditioning as does get a bit stuffy .
Not bad for the price I pay

I feel that that this gym is a great…

I feel that that this gym is a great place to workout. Equipments, space, changing rooms and lockers are always organised. Appreciate the team who is maintaining the gym. Good work!!

Cold showers are really unacceptable

Cold showers are really unacceptable , why , why , have they lowered the water temperature to cold in the Ladies showers ,At Least make it warm !!!!!!!

It's a no fuss approach to the gym

It's a no fuss approach to the gym. Help is there if required.
There is a broken fire door in the shared area of the building which has had an 'awaiting engineer' notice on it since before Christmas 2022. Pure Gym should be putting pressure on their landlord to get it repaired.

the equipment is not good enough

i am an elite level powerlifter and love this PureGym and the community of lifters within it however I've been to many other local gyms and the equipment just cant compete with them i've spoken to many other who just lift for fun and they all agree that the equipment elsewhere is better and they only go because its closer but many of us are considering switching to other gyms with better equipment and thats not just powerlifters but normal people who just want to lose weight or get a but of muscle

I've not had the best experience at…

I've not had the best experience at this gym overall but have been a member for a while because my personal trainer who is employed with them is excellent. Over the weekend, my phone was stolen at the gym, I was unable to look at the CCTV straight away because there was no manager on site. I emailed and no manager has gotten back to me. you can't call the gym to find out when a manager will be on shift so I have to drive down there Russian roulette style to see if I get lucky.

Generally the gym is understaffed, the classes get cancelled last minute, the drinks machines don't work. But, they have good PT's and decent enough equipment which I think is their saving grace. After this palaver, I am leaving though.

The gym often has large groups of teenage boys being obnoxious. These boys are 100% under 16. I saw a boy working out with his father recently who couldn't have been a day over 10. If these boys (who look around 13) weren't so disruptive and rude it wouldn't be an issue. They take over areas of the gym and sit on equipment they aren't even using. Making comments about other gym users to each other.

I came at 3:30pm

I came at 3:30pm. Not many people. No need to wait for any equipment. Changing room was tidy. Shower water was hot and strong enough. So relax!

Some equipment is old and impractical…

Some equipment is old and impractical for some users. Such as the squat racks, they are set distances apart which for health and safety is dangerous as i have to either bend down lower to put the weight away or stand on tip toes.

Asked for new equipment on multiple occasions, only to be told our gym is due a refurb once the solihull gym is done and it rotates back to them.

I really enjoy this gym

I really enjoy this gym. It's clean, easy to get to, parking and good variety of gym equipment. The only reason I've given 4* is because of the classes. Sometimes the instructors don't come and there's no signs or messages to update you that there's a cancellation - just no shows which is really disappointing

Good but Cancelled classes

Tte gym is really good always plenty of space and friendly. The issue is the classes. We joined the gym so we could do the classes and even encourged our friend to join. The last few weeks the classes have been cancelled, and on one occasion we turned up stood there waiting with all our equipment only to be told it was not on. When the classes are on they are excellent

Staff do undertake regular maintenance checks and work hard with our equipment providers to ensure that our equipment is fixed as soon as possible, if any should be broken. We are equally as disappointed when this happens and sometimes need to wait on engineers but will have all equipment in full working order as soon as is safely possible. If you have any concerns about equipment, please notify staff on site as soon as you can.

Constant cancellations!

I joined PureGym Maypole on the 29th October 2022. I booked onto a 30 minute Get Started which was useless and lasted 5 minutes with a member of staff pointing out the obvious.... that's a running machine, that's some bikes etc! I have since booked onto at least two classes per week, every week and have actually managed to do 2 because they keep cancelling! Half of the time they don't even let you know its cancelled until you turn up? Why advertise classes if you cannot put them on?

Unhelpful when trying to cancel

Been trying for days to cancel my Membership, I’ve explained to the Membership Team and the Gym directly that the online service is not giving me the option to Cancel, and that I am overseas and unable to contact the Bank to cancel my Direct Debit.

I cannot understand how the Gym can accept my Direct Debit details but claim they cannot then Cancel upon my request.

Very disappointing.

I am afraid we are unable to cancel a membership once it has passed the 14 day cooling off period. It is down to the member to make sure their direct debit is successfully cancelled. If you are unable to go in branch, we would advise calling your bank, emailing them or cancelling the direct debit via the app at least 4 working days before your payment is due.
