It's clean and has what I need
It's clean, the machines have always been in working order, and the locker rooms are clean, although you do need to bring your own lock for the lockers (they do sell them). There are classes available with membership, although I've not attended myself. They lose a star for me because they've replaced having front desk staff with having a weird door entry system - sort of like arrivals at an airport where a door opens, you step into a cylinder, it shuts you in, and then the door opens on the other side. You have to first enter a pin, which gets awkward when someone is doing the same thing on the other side. I'm sure there's staff available, but without a front desk to greet you they feel very inaccessible and it all feels quite automated. In that sense I guess my rating is mainly for the facilities as customer service is a bit nonexistent. Otherwise it has most things I need in a gym - good weight machines, treadmills, stairs, lots of facilities on the mats.

bad experience in Canterbury Sturry…
bad experience in Canterbury Sturry road. new manager is strange,nevr smiles. quite rude actually.
the customers some of them sit on machines for 20 minutes on their phones.
management do nothing.
machines are dirty. never cleaned.
new machines are already going rusty
they just had a refurb in sturry canterbury, already problems are arrising.
they have a massive area in the gym, and hardly anyone uses it!
its a poor planned, poorly managed gym.

Unfortunately, we are unable to monitor the usage of phones in our gyms, however if people are sitting on equipment we would advise approaching a member of staff on the floor who will be able to look into this at the time. In regard to cleaning and equipment maintenance, our gyms have full cleaning schedules and a procedure for equipment concerns to be reported for engineers to attend. Frustrating experience with unhelpful staff and access issues
I recently signed up for PureGym’s premium membership online, expecting full access to my local gym (Sturry Road, Canterbury). But when I arrived, I was denied entry. A cleaner kindly let me in to speak to a staff member, Shannon, who was dismissive and uninterested in helping. She acted like I was a problem rather than a paying customer and just told me to come back another day.
To make matters worse, when I finished my workout, I couldn’t even leave the gym properly because I didn’t have a QR code. When I asked for help again, Shannon was rude and made me feel like I shouldn’t be there, even though I had paid.
I’ve since tried to contact PureGym and the local manager, but all I’m getting is redirected to emails or social media — which I don’t use. Both times I’ve emailed, I received automated replies about gym classes, which has nothing to do with my issue. I still can’t access the gym I’ve paid for and no one is offering real help.
I’m extremely disappointed. This isn’t what I paid for, and the customer service has been completely lacking. I just want to use the membership I paid for — it shouldn’t be this hard.

I have been attending sturdy road pure gym for a couple of months now. Alone and with there PT Beth McCarthy.
I can’t believe that I am only a couple months in with training with Beth, because not only have a lost 15lbs but I have gained muscle, gained confidence. I am now able to go into a gym and not be completely freaked out and want to walk out.
Today it dawned on me that I was running around with my 3 year old nephew and I felt fitter and could carry on playing without a break 😂
Even throughout training with her I have had some stressful times (in my personal life) but being able to carry on training with her has massively helped. She has helped my mental health my physical health and I can’t thank her enough for all her hard work and support. She honestly deserves 10 stars lol!
If you are thinking of starting pls do it from all the positives it has brought she is too cheap

Canterbury Sturry Road poor re furb
After the refurbishment, i find it strange the layout! all the machines are too tightly packed, you have to walk through the cable machines to get to the ladies toilet. The cable machines while being used, are dangerous to walk through, someone is going to get hurt. Over the last week, i have seen so many people 'collide' with each other, while one person is using the cable machines, and the other person is walking to the drink machine or ladies changing room. Also there is no marked out 'pathway' inside the gym to walk 'safely' around the gym or to get from A to B safely. The new refurb is in my opinion, poorly planned. Poorly designed.

Has all the equipment I need and the pure gym I go to in Wincheap Canterbury is not to busy. The induction was very short and the building is very cold with harsh lighting but is okay to workout in.

Temperatures and air conditioning in our gyms are automatically regulated by Smart machines, but if there is a persistent issue staff may be able to override it and can certainly report it to be checked by engineers. Thanks, PureGym.
