Not great
This gym is very busy, and small, has limited equipment mostly one of one machine no duplicates. The morning cleaner is ridiculous and hoovers under your feet and shouts and moans at you when you try walk up the stairs while he's hoovering, but that's where the lockers and other equipment is, I hate the fact I will also be getting ready and he will walk in and clean the toilets.

Please be aware due to the situation of our gyms it isn't always possible to extend the site itself, however, we are always looking to expand and improve our facilities where possible, so please keep an eye out for updates.
If you have any specific suggestions regarding the layout of the gym please leave a note in the feedback box, which is regularly reviewed.
With regards to your recent visit we do apologise for any inconvenience caused. There may be occasions where the cleaners or a member of staff do need to enter the changing facilities; if this is the case they will announce themselves prior.
It would really help us if you could get in touch directly with the Gym Manager to provide more information (such as date and time or names etc.) so this can be properly investigated. Thanks, PureGym

Current member for last year + - not for much longer
Current member for last year +, just so fed up with WAY OVER memberships accepted by PureGym or simply selfish members planting their bums on equipment, not using it, and playing on their mobiles... So my local Gym at peak is packed out, with long waits to use equipment or in quiet times Sat/Sun 8am or Fri/Sat eve 8pm, yep Ive tried all - the few members in the gym use equipment as chairs (there are NO chairs supplied) to use social media etc. ... Anyway, it is what it is, Packed Out or Selfish turds - take your pick. If you say anything you just get abused.

Unfortunately, we are unable to monitor the usage of phones in our gyms constantly, however if people are sitting on equipment we would strongly advise approaching a member of staff on the floor who will be able to help further.

Laura was very thorough with showing us round all the gym, plus the equipment and all the classes available. She is very knowledgeable and clearly loves what she does. She asked us if we felt confident with the machines and if we had any questions.

Easy access and great instructors
It was my first experience of PureGym yesterday and it was great! It's so easy to book and access classes. The instructors were so friendly, knowledgeable and motivating. Looking forward to my next visit 🙂

You couldn't pay me to train here
Extremely hot, extremely busy and extremely annoying.
I will preface this by saying that I only have positive experiences with the staff there. Nothing against them. I would give the staff 5 stars. Cameron, in particular, is an asset to the gym.
The place is like a Cambodian jungle with the heat and humidity.
The brand new barbells and dumbbells have little to no knurling on them. Quite dangerous, actually, when performing bench press and associated lifts in which a slip would be very bad news.
The gym gets so busy. Not just a little busier at peak hours, it is unusable at peak hours. ~100 people in there officially. Not to mention those unaccounted for, who enter the gym without a membership at the same time as their friends.
I've never been on a morning but on a weeknight, during the hours of 16:00-21:00, the gym is unusable. Forget following an exercise routine. There's no chance.
Equipment selection and utilisation of floor space is extremely poor. One flat bench press to serve the entire gym. Not enough weight benches to serve the free weights section. Flat bench and decline bench pushed right up against each other, preventing spotters from easily accessing them.
Truthfully, they need a bigger facility, but more importantly than this is that they utilise the space that they do have effectively. The space upstairs is extremely poorly utilised. Additionally, they should look to expand the entire upstairs and make it as large as the lower floor.
Don't waste your time joining this gym. I have been attending gyms regularly for almost one decade now. Never have I ever been so inconsistent with my routines. The gym does not permit it. I was a member for one month and have cancelled my membership. There have been many occasions where I turn up to the gym, only to walk straight out of the door.
PureGym Consett is a victim of it's own success. It is supposed to be a budget gym, but with the cheapest membership at £22, the price certainly does not make up for the inconvenience. You couldn't pay me to use this gym.

Alright for price but hard to enjoy.
More times than not the flavours in the water machine are out. You can't do anything about it because once you've dispensed a drink you then can't get another for 20 minutes. The PTs basically section of a part of the gym so I can't do my routine half of the sessions I go in and they keep sending adverts out to get more members when you can't even get on the equipment.

Temperatures/air con in our gyms are automatically regulated by Smart machines, but if there is a persistent issue staff may be able to override it and can certainly report it to be checked by engineers.
