Great, clean gym, lots of equipment available. A good variety of classes. Open 24 hours which suits me great! Never had a problem with anything. All equipment is easy to use. Locker rooms are kept clean and tidy as are the toilets. I feel safe and confident working out. Everyone is very approachable and friendly.

Pros: • good quality equipment
• refreshments (drinks etc)
• clean facilities
• some nice staff
Cons • need more then 1 equipment machine as when it’s busy you having to wait for ages
• more space
• more useful equipment such as a hip thrust machine

Equipment is very outdated and every time you visit you will find something else that is broken and unusable. Also too many people sit on machines on their phones and not working out

Excellent gym. Great staff. My only issue is people sitting on equipment I'm waiting to use just texting on their phone or having a conversation with another person. I think it would be a good idea to have signs in the gym displaying gym etiquette as it's really annoying. Apart from that I really enjoy going there.

Dirty gym, showers have mould al up them, showers stink of sewerage, the mens bathroom goes days without being cleaned i no because there was a snot stuck on the urinal for about 4 days. Taps dont work properly, the vitamin water half the time is only water not the flavour, theres a certain member of staff that teachers incorrectly and the client could have injured her knees, theres much more i could say, they charging 15quid for a resubmission of payment. I started a new job got paid days late which i explained on email they still wasnt willing to waive the resubmission so i cancelled it. Gyms dirty and rubbish what a waste of money

PureGym is a great gym with wonderful staff members. My only concern is that the training equipment needs maintaining better and cleaning stations needs filling up every day.

It's fine I guess. Does get a little crowded and sometimes the unwashed men make me want to throw up and they could do with a hack squat machine and sometimes it's too warm in the Cardio section. But ya know tis a cheap gym so whatever.

I have been looking into getting regular exercise and wanted to try going to a gym, which is hard for me because of my anxiety around it. I live in Derby, for reference.
A month or so ago I got the half-price subscription, for the highest tier, becuase it wasn't that expensive, and wanted to see how things went. I ended up going once so my initial idea was to change my subscription to the lowest tier and keep trying.
The website does not help you with this, and actively confuses. There is no way to downgrade via the website. The "instructions page" I was directed to provided instructions that weren't possible, and there was nothing else to try. It is intentionally designed to be difficult, and needs to be improved.
I then froze my subscription (before the renewal date), not wanting to cancel but wanting time to think and not spending any more money. I thought because I froze it before the renewal, I wouldn't pay. I was wrong. I got charged another £24.99, and felt cheated out of my money (of which I don't have much). I am now aware that you have to freeze probably 5 days before the renewal, or cancel your Direct Debit and thus cancel your sub, to not be charged.
The service needs to be improved, especially as there are many people (including me) who struggle with phone calls/face-to-face interaction. It is not justifiable to profit by intentionally making your service less accessible.
It is a heavily gendered space with little privacy in the changing room (mens, for me). There is no gender-neutral changing space. If you aren't comfortable changing/showering in public, then you will have to change in the toilet/shower cubicles, which is better but still not totally private. Or change/shower at home.
I expect any gym has these problems. It would be nice to have an option that doesn't.
There were some positives, though.
The app is useful as you can see how many people are in the gym. As I was quite anxious about going already, this was great for me, and helped me to feel more comfortable.
The gym is nice to be in generally - it wasn't too cold or too hot, and when I went (late night) there was loads of free equipment. Be aware though that the changing rooms are locked between midnight and 3am.
I haven't looked at absolutely every gym in the area but from what I've seen it's the least expensive (if you get the off-peak-only subscription). It is a 30 minute walk for me and I'd rather it were closer and not in the heart of town, but that's not a big problem.

Great little gym. I asked for a tour as I was in the market for a new membership. Jake, whom I believe is the manager, was absolutely brilliant. He was inquisitive without being pushy. I was made to feel so comfortable, in a situation in which I could have felt particularly nervous or vulnerable. Honestly, he is such an asset to the place. It’s always clean and tidy here, and the facilities in the changing rooms are too. I will say that the showers Huron at a very high temperature, but that’s my only gripe. Very satisfied.

puregym derby is great value for money, great opening hours and good selection of equipment/ classes. the staff are lovely and the workout spaces are always very clean. however the changing facilities really let it down. the womens changing room’s constantly smell really bad. one sink has been out of order for a long time, same with one of the toilets, another wont flush properly. the disabled toilet upstairs has become a useful place to get changed and use instead of the changing rooms. aside from that i would highly recommend the gym

Not a bad gym with a wide range of equipment to suit all levels but... That smell from the male toilet needs a permanent solution. It must be a drainage issue because toilet is often cleaned. If you can, change into ur gym wear at home and avoid the male changing room/toilet
Monthly Prices are fantastic. Add the unlimited drinks for £3 extra a month. Worth it!!

Good gym with a decent, basic amount of equipment. I like the top floor with plenty of bikes and crosstrainers, however there's only one of each leg machine which can be annoying. The women's changing rooms always seems to smell and there's been a hairdryer out of order for well over a month now though.

Never to busy at times I workout clean and air conditioned.
Amazing gym from my first visit feeling a bit intimidated by the gym to where I am now can’t wait to come and do my workout have my p t session always wanting the best for me teaching the moves the correct way to then be used in future workouts great gym company with great benefits
Not enough equipment, too many people hanging around on the equipment chatting to people, or their phones for a long time preventing others from using it. Think I may cancel as I don't enjoy using this gym,

This gym is let down by inadequate shower and toilet facilities cleaning. The men’s showers often smell of rotten cabbages and the toilets of acrid stale urine. Some of the men’s lockers do not lock properly. Overall the gym atmosphere and facilities are good but let down by poor changing facilities.
