Great choice of classes
Great choice of classes. Great friendly staff. Enjoying the ladies only section. Thank you.
PureGym Shawlands is great
Your staff are great, always helpful, vigilant in classes. And they know my name which shows they know who their customers are. There's plenty of equipment and lockers so you can just come in and get on with your session without be having to wait around for people to free up equipment.
I've had PureGym memberships in several…
I've had PureGym memberships in several different cities and this one is quite mediocre compared to others.
I'm disappointed with the ladies area as its lacking in diverse equipment, a few more machines would be nice. Leg press and curl are in the main area and I will never feel comfortable using a lying down leg curl machine as I already get stared at in the main area and don't feel safe. Women use the area so they can workout comfortably but there's barely anything to use in there.
In the main area there are so many treadmills that it's a bit unnecessary, I've never seen them all in use at the busiest times. PureGym could add some more weight machines so there is no queue for popular machines and women don't have to get stared at.

Pure Gym don't really have a females area
If Pure Gym are going to promote a gym to have a females area then that area should be equipped with a good balance of strength training equipment. At present, anyone using the females area is expected to carry free weights into the area and then put them back in the main area aftewards. This is unfair given females wishing to use that area pay the same as any other member but don't have the full benefits of a females area. PS women don't just do cardio!

Excellent
A safe and friendly gym with nice staff, plenty of equipment and overall a really good place to workout
I use Pure gym in Shawlands four times…
I use Pure gym in Shawlands four times each week.
It has everything I need most of the time. It can get busy around the free weights section and I always have alternative exercises on hand in case it's really busy. Having resistance bands and sliders is a good idea .
It's clean and the equipment is well maintained.
Changing rooms are big and also clean.

Been to Gyms a few years ago and was amazed at the difference in today's, modern equipment at Puregym. The amount of space and use of same is excellent. Yep, big changes nowadays and I'm delighted to have joined.

For it's price range it's ok
For it's price range it's ok. I find it a bit dingy and they have a ladies area which is a total waste of space and unnecessary. Also there is no separate room for PTs to do progress reports (weight and measurements) so they do it in the changing room. It's very embarrassing so I won't be using a PT. Staff are nice.

Overall good but some equipment requires maintenance on a more punctual basis.

First-time gym member at the ladies only area
This was my first time joining a gym. I joined this specific branch in Glasgow as they offered a private ladies only area, and I was not disappointed. I had some reservations thinking it would be a tiny, cupboard-sized room with 2-3 pieces of equipment, however to my delight it had, not only a reasonably quantity of workout machinery, but also a diverse range. There is also an extended area with weights and mats which made me extra excited for toning exercises! My only downside is that sometimes during my workouts, male members of staff enter and pass through the area to carry out their own duties. I personally wear a head covering as well as a full-length garment, both of which I remove to workout. So you can imagine the first few times I was caught off-guard and felt quite self-conscious. If it were possible for it to be limited to female only staff passing through the area then I would be greatly reassured. Aside from that, I found the ladies only area overall to be a generally quiet and comfortable space to focus on yourself which I love. Like I mentioned previously, it was my first time joining the gym, and I’ll admit the nerves were there! I’d even delayed joining for a few months because of how anxious I was. However, I’d recommend getting a day pass as I did to familiarise yourself with the layout and equipment, as it helped me decide on then purchasing a membership. I really don’t know the first thing when it comes to working out, however I’ve been using the PureGym app with their tailored workout service (mines was targeted to lose weight at an “absolute beginner” level), and I can tell you for sure I felt some serious burns. Also when I realised it’s at an “absolute beginner” level I’m sat wondering what beginner must be like :(. But we’ve all got to start somewhere I guess! What I loved more about the workouts on the app is that all of the equipment shown so far can be found in the ladies only area, along with clear animations and descriptions showing you how to complete the number of sets/reps (two words I never understood) and a big bold timer to motivate you. So for me, the app was a big win in joining PureGym. I’ve completed 3 workouts so far and can’t wait to go back and hopefully reap some results! I’ve always wanted to discuss the benefits of a Personal Trainer as I know this is something that is offered, however I’ve not gotten round to raising it with the staff yet. Great service otherwise!

Sufficient equipment to do normal workouts so I can't give it a bad rating. I would love it if they had the Glute Ham Raise machine.
It's quite busy at 5pm on a weekday but I like that because it feels nice to work out in a lively environment.

Im so disappointed with puregym…
Im so disappointed with puregym shawlands. Pre covid I was an active member, who took classes regularly etc and I loved it. During covid I was catastrophically injured, and am now permenantly disabled. I knew shawlands had a wheelchair accessible entrance but messaged the gym directly to ascertain their adaptations for wheelchair/disabled members.
I emailed twice, and received no reply. I learned from someone who was a former PT there that they don't have many accessible machines at all, despite the access door. I'm disappointed by both this and the absolute radio silence from puregym on the subject- if you don't have the machines available, I'd rather know than them continue to take my money and I turn up unable to do anything. I feel I wasn't replied to for this reason, that if they admitted they couldn't adapt things they'd lose me as a member.
I hate how if I was active and able, I'd be at the gym I went to for years. I since joined another gym who not only had the accessible machines but taught me how to access them, and it turns out I can use some machines without adaptations at all (so if shawlands had gotten back to me and let me see what I could do with help, they wouldn't have lost my membership).
I feel the situation was albest and I'm upset that my injuries have lost me the gym I'm used to and comfortable with, because they were too scared to admit they aren't accessible for disabled users despite the misleading entrance.

Good clean fitness!
Clean, hand sanitiser and wipes everywhere. I feel safe as far as hygiene goes and every class I've been to is pretty great. My only gripe is the guys who regularly hog the weights machines (Happens every session I go to). I'm ecstatic that there is a women's only section, but the variety of machines is not even remotely replicated there (which is obviously impossible as there is not enough space) So if there was less of that, it would be the perfect gym!
