The gym itself is decent – good equipment and friendly, helpful staff. However, I feel compelled to warn fellow members and prospective customers about a serious and ongoing security problem with the lockers.
The majority of lockers in the changing rooms have defective locking mechanisms or damaged, bent doors. Given the state of them, I strongly suspect this is the result of repeated forced entry by thieves targeting gym-goers.
My suspicions were recently confirmed in the worst possible way. After a 10-minute shower, I returned to find my locker had been crowbarred open. Despite using one of the few lockers with a reliable mechanism and a sturdy padlock, the door had simply been wrenched open, rendering the padlock completely useless. Fortunately, nothing appeared to have been taken, but my belongings had clearly been searched. Out of caution, I spent the entire following day cancelling bank cards, securing accounts, changing my flat's locks and taking steps to guard against potential identity theft and card skimming.
When I reported the incident to the police, I was told I was the third person that same day to report a locker break-in at this gym. I also raised the matter with staff, who were sympathetic and acknowledged they had been flagging the locker situation to group management for some time.
To be transparent, this is not a new problem. I have been a member for several years and the lockers deteriorated so badly a couple of years ago that only around 5% were usable. Management did eventually act – but rather than investing in a more robust solution, they replaced the broken lockers with the exact same model that had already proven wholly inadequate. Predictably, they are now deteriorating again in the same way.
I appreciate that PureGym's Terms and Conditions state that customers use lockers at their own risk. However, it is entirely reasonable to expect a secure place to store your valuables at a gym. The current lockers are simply not fit for purpose, particularly for a busy urban location like Lewisham. I would strongly urge management to invest in quality, robust lockers appropriate for the environment.
In the meantime, my advice to members is simple: keep your valuables with you at all times while you work out. Don't make the same mistake I did.
Poor staff response and unprofessionalism
I am extremely disappointed with the level of customer service at PureGym Lewisham. On this occasion, one member of staff was inside the office while I was knocking on the door for assistance, and another was watching me from a distance on the main gym floor. Despite clearly seeing me, neither made any effort to respond or offer help.
Even at the time of writing this feedback, while seated near the office, I can still see a member of staff watching me from a distance without providing any assistance. This behaviour feels dismissive and unprofessional.
As a paying member, I expect staff to be approachable, attentive, and willing to assist members when needed. Unfortunately, this has not been my experience, and I urge management to take this feedback seriously and address staff conduct and customer service standards.

No showers for 10 days. No hot water. No explanation email to members.
Staff said plumbers having trouble fixing boiler. Members not given option to use other local gyms until fixed which happened previously.
Seems this is an attempt to quietly shut down shower option to save money.

The experience at the Lewisham gym is great overall however, one major negative factor is women’s bathroom. I would give that a zero It needs a serious revamp. The piping is visible alongside mouldy walls. It’s making me not want to shower there and the lockers are really bad. Compared to the other pure gyms, this one is really bad and i’m not too sure why nothing has been done about this; as it’s been like this a while. Also, as I have chest issues- may experience issues, if I stay in the bathroom for long. If something could be done about this please, as I want my gym experience to be great overall. But the gym itself is good.

PureGym has been my gym for a year now, I missed a payment and admin fees were added on the same day, I spoke to George, the manager at my gym (Lewisham) who gave me valuable information on contacting the right email, after a quick message to the members enquiry email explaining that I am currently working part-time and very limited hours, the extra fees were pardoned and I only had to pay my usual monthly charge as long as I made payment within a short deadline.
They replied quickly and politely, which was an added bonus because my workout plan wasn't interrupted.

Easy to join online and get started. Really good gym induction with Mischa, lots of classes immediately available for me to attend, at convenient times.

Ok gym a bit dirty especially the changing rooms, also when equipment has broken it’s not replaced or fixed for a long time. Blue roll needs to be replaced when it’s run out, staff don’t seem to care.

Often overcrowded but that's understandable, especially in London. What really annoys me is the male toilets are always dirty and smells terrible. This is the main reason why I'll be cancelling my membership in the new year.

Friendly gym with good range of equipment but no natural light and music is far too loud. Know your audience. There are very few people who want House blasting out from every speaker.
