Overcrowded gym & unpleasant trainers
Made it 5 minutes late to the first & last class I booked with Pure Gym (I prefer just using weights usually) because of a bus delay and was told to leave the class. Cancelling my membership right after posting this review because this is no proper way to treat a paying customer. Lateness of 15 min + I’d understand, but for 5 minutes you’re just being unpleasant for the sake of it.
The trainer justified this by saying I missed the warm-up but the class itself was packed to the brim and if you read the other low star reviews you can easily see they are not managing booking properly so let’s be honest here about what the issue is. Any respectable venue would check names before allowing attendees in the class and would give a 5 minutes grace for entrance. Back to Nuffield I go.
Other complaints are:
Equipment being broken fairly frequently and taking a while to fix
Venue smelling bad generally - makes you wonder about hygiene standards
Severe overcrowding at peak times - I understand it’s a budget gym and I guess this comes with the territory (and it’s indeed why I decided to try out a class this time around because it’d be a challenge to secure a squat rack at this time - 6.30pm on a Wednesday)

P.S. I’d appreciate it if the venue didn’t respond to tell me how “popular” Pure Gyms venues are as it did to the other low rating reviews. It’s a budget gym that allows oversubscription and has poor booking management, not the most popular girl in class. Be so for real. Cute public perception management attempt, I suppose.

The PT's do have the right to politely refuse anyone who turns up to the class late, after the class has already started. One main reason for this is due to parts of the class being missed, like the Warm up, which had already been explained to you as the reason.
We advise all members to be at least 10/15 minutes early to a class where possible.

It's a good gym at a good location, BUT
It's a good gym at a good location. I was looking forward to the "refurb" but only to my greatest disappointment that non of the cardio equipment was upgraded at all! I mean most of the treadmills and ergs are OLD and constantly breakdown, it isn't a lot to ask to get them refreshed is it?!

Good location.
It’s a good location and some staffs/instructors are very nice. Although, the power plate machine has been taken away, which is a great equipment I regularly used after exercising. The time table, lunch time ‘ish’ is not good. The hygiene of the gym overall is average. I would still go there though. As previously mentioned, it’s a good location.

Refurb of Putney branch
I have always been a big supporter of Puregym and the service they offer. It is a no frills, well equipped, gym.
However the recent refurbishment of the Putney branch has been so poorly managed and disrespectfully communicated to the members that my opinions have plummeted.
Changing rooms have been closed with no notification despite me emailing the branch to ask if there were going to be any closure of the changing facilities.
Health & Safety is another concern as works are being carried out with gym members on site. Trip hazards are blatantly ignored and large items of furniture are being carried up and down the internal stairs with members arriving and leaving. It is very dangerous.

Good value for money
Decent gym, well priced, with a wide range of equipment, clean and not too busy.
Showers are a bit gross sometimes and some have super low water pressure. Also the leg press opposite the entrance is placed too close to the wall, it needs moving further to the right, makes it hard to load 25kg plates without risking dropping them.

Some small issues but overall great value for money
Some small issues (crowded gym at times, some machines don't work, some classes get cancelled) but overall it's great value for money.

I love going to PureGym however, I find that your East Putney branch (my home gym) is very crowded and often you can’t get on the equipment

Practically an overcrowded smelly dungeon
I tried out the Pure Gym in Putney, and it was just gross. Small, incredibly compact, and weirdly spread across 3 floors with absolutely no signage whatsoever. I also never saw any staff. There was never any airflow inside, it smelt terrible, it felt dark and dungeon-like, and you could never use the equipment you wanted because there weren’t enough for the amount of people around. I stayed less than a month.
