Visited this gym at the invite of my daughter who is a member and attends regularly.
I usually go to a small local gym in my village, so it was useful to see the facilities offered by a larger site and national brand.
The automated entrance barriers made it feel like we were entering a high security place or a prison, but once I had found a pin keyboard that worked, I was in!
Did not get welcomed or approached by any employees if they were there. The gym itself was very large with lots of floor space and equipment and my daughter and I worked lifting weights before competing with each other in a 2km race on the rowing machines.
Generally impressed with the facilities, but it felt impersonal and I would worry if someone got hurt as there did not seem to be any employees that could deal with that type of situation.

I've been a member of this gym for 5 years and always liked the place, no real problems, until recently. I presume it's under new management as they are having what they refer to as an "upgrade". Except they have downgraded it. It used to be spacious, but now it is all boxed off into little environments. For some reason they decided to put a massive walled off area directly in the centre of the gym. Whatever it is, they should've put it into a corner. Now all the machine are placed right up next to each other. You have little to no personal space anymore. I noticed some machines would be impossible to use because other people will need to walk by to get into another area. If I was female I wouldn't feel safe down there due to how boxed in everything is. I used to think it was quite a social place down there but now it is the opposite; they have created a claustrophobic negative environment. I'm normally down there for an hour or so, but today I had to leave after half an hour. Nothing was broke down there, but it is now. I'm now looking for another gym. The environment down there is bad. Seriously avoid.
I challenge the management down there to hire a feng shui expert to confirm everything I just stated.

Hello, I was given a 3 day pass by the British Heart Foundation so thought I'd try it out as my partner is a member there. I liked the wide open space, hand / machine spray and tissues readily available. Saw the two managers checking all the equipment which was reassuring. There was a good variety of equipment. The only issue was the extensive renovation work going on. This was noisy and dusty and meant the machines were squashed into the available space. I'm sure the gym will be great facility when it's completed.

I bought a day pass expecting to be 24 hours. I'm disappointed with my purchase with my purchase. I was expecting to be able to come back tomorrow before the 24 hours ended but then reading my day pass it said it ends today. I feel like I haven't got my moneys worth. £8.99 for 1 workout was only there for 1 hour and a half. Most likely wont be buying this again.

The place was quiet, no blaring music, it was clean and the equipment was excellent. Layout was very sensible.

The trainers and the classes are really good , it is let down in that repairs to equipment / replacing damaged items is not completed promptly .

PureGym (Plymouth) is great but how is there no wifi? It's 2025! Also, it's pretty messy with weights everywhere but I think all commercial gyms are probably like that. Even when the gym is busy, I almost never have to wait for equipment because there is so much of it! The space is also really flexible, which I love. It's great you can check the app to see how busy the gym is. But, please, can you just get wifi??

This was my first visit to this Gym. The Female and the Disability Toilets were not working!!!
We went on the Treadmill and every few minutes there was a strong smell of Sewage. Trying to train with the smell of sewage is pretty unpleasant.

I recently moved back to Plymouth for the academic year and had hoped to use PureGym as it's just around the corner from my home. However, after visiting I have decided to look further afield as I found a number of considerable issues that affected me being able to work out.
Firstly, the lights are overwhelmingly bright which is distracting and uncomfortable. This becomes even more unbearable when reclined for exercises such as bench. I'm somewhat sensitive to bright light but can imagine other people must struggle with this as well.
I also found myself having to walk around the gym numerous times to find the plates I needed due to a lack of organisation and an inadequate number of plates being available. Additionally, there are very few Olympic plates in the gym and the majority of the ones they do have are very old and worn out.
The dumbbells were also randomly placed on the racks in no order, making it a nuisance to find the weights that I needed. Gym etiquette plays a role in this, but it should also be the responsibility of the gym to ensure that the equipment remains at least somewhat organised.
The Olympic lifting platforms looked like they would be okay. However, the previously mentioned issue about the lack of plates would be a hindrance for anyone looking to push/pull a couple of plates or more. Safeties also weren't available here meaning heavy squats are off the table unless you use the one outdated squat rack.
There are a wide variety of machines available, but some of them are looking very tired and substantial rust can be seen. This was probably the lesser of my issues with equipment though as the ones I used were still functional. If you just want to go to the gym for cardio I'm sure you'd be fine as about half of the gym floor is occupied by treadmills and static bikes.
The layout is questionable, and a lot of space that could be used for more machines to reduce waiting times. Whilst there are quite a few machines it isn't enough to accommodate for peak times. A friend described the gym as 'a gym that a child would design on sims'. I agree.
On my way out I also overheard the manager on the phone (identified by his t-shirt printed with 'MANAGER') who was complaining about 'powerlifters' who 'come in and spend hours at the gym'. Pretty amusing considering the whole PureGym ethos is supposed to be that everyone is welcome, but whatever.
I won't be returning. I've had memberships at several other commercial gyms and this is definitely the worst I've seen. There are a number of other commercial gym options in the Plymouth area so I'd recommend just using one of them.
