When I write reviews I try to be as concise and fair as possible .
I’ve bought two lots from Railtons and both had problems .
They offer an online service to bid and also delivery should you wish to use it.
They are based in Wooler Northumberland, which if you know the area is quite a long way from most towns / cities , so offering an online service is a great idea , BUT … you need to do your homework and/or ask questions .
The first auction I won was for two stihl brush cutters , from the pictures they looked ok and would maybe need a service .
When I got them home , one was beyond repair and the other not long for this world .
The second auction I won was a gas bbq, now this is where I take issue .
If you’re selling something that uses something like gas , you would assume that it was safe to do so .
Apparently this isn’t a requirement.
The pictures I saw showed a tired but still ok bbq that looked like it just needed a clean .
Only pictures taken from the front and all with the lid closed , my bad should I have asked for more pictures ?
When I got it home it was beyond repair and totally rusty inside .
The only place this was fit for was the scarp man , who now has it .
I contacted the auction house and a week later , no reply . So sent another ‘pithy’ email detailing their pictures Vs mine . Also a mention of trustpilot
A week later I get a rather patronising email back telling me to return the “knackered” bbq and they would re-auction it and I “may even make a profit “
So no direct offer of a refund , even through Mr Railton agreed that it was junk .
Mr Railton had been away hence the delay in communication, bit poor that only one person can handle emails imo.
Definitely will not be using them again , nor would I recommend them either .
However , like most auctions there is an element of “sold as seen” and if you’re happy to gamble , then maybe you may get lucky. I’m sure there are plenty of happy customers , but I’m not one of them and to quote Mr Railton, yes I do feel ripped off.
