Crappiest bank I got to work with in…

Crappiest bank I got to work with in Canada. I have accounts with multiple banks, and RBC provides the worst experience. They have no respect at all for your time. No care in the world if a security issue happens. I have been on a call for hours because I got an alert about an unauthorized purchase and they just pass me from one person to the next. Months ago, I had a meeting with a financial advisor, and that was a crappy experience too. The guy literally told me to move my investment to Scotia... like what???? Every time I had to do an in person thing, I had to wait for 40+ minutes. Respect yourself and don't bank with RBC.

0 Stars – Locked Out of My Own Account, Then Hung Up On

0 Stars – Locked Out of My Own Account, Then Hung Up On

I had an extremely frustrating and disappointing experience with Royal Bank.

I was on a call with an agent for less than five minutes. After being asked a few security questions about my account activity, I opened my app and answered to the best of my knowledge.

From there, things only got worse. The agent said they had to end the call because my answers didn’t match and it was “to protect client privacy.” I asked for another question to verify my identity—this was not possible. I asked to escalate to a manager—also not possible. The call was abruptly ended, and I was effectively treated as a fraud risk… despite being the actual account holder trying to access support.

The reason for my call was simple: I needed guidance on how to pay a bill and understand my options online or in person. Instead, I was blocked by the system and denied any real assistance.

I then called a branch and spoke with someone who was helpful and explained the security controls, but by then, the damage was done. The experience was already negative, stressful, and completely avoidable.

Being locked out of your own account, denied escalation, and hung up on is unacceptable. I will be closing my accounts with RBC and sharing this experience on other platforms.

Customers deserve better access, better support, and basic respect—especially when they are trying to manage their own finances. Hanging up on a client is rude and bad business.

After months of having a courtesy…

After months of having a courtesy overdraft, RBC started denying my charges. Even sums such as recurring withdrawals of $5,00, $10,00 and sums less than $15.00 were denied and they re-tried, resulting in $800-$900 in NSF charges.
Long time RBC customer and was treated like a piece of sh*t. I suppose if I were a man or somebody deemed important in this economy, they wouldn't have tried to actively destroy my life and ruin my credit. I have worked so hard in the course of over 40 years, harder than most, and this is the result. Customer service doesn't exist at this now terrible, cr@ppy bank.

RBC Customer service is horrible

RBC Customer service is horrible, a complete waste of time. Reminds me of old Rogers days, brutally terrible. My CC has been blocked 3 days in a row, each day I have had to call in or go into a branch to confirm my transactions- for no apparent reason, or atleast that's what they tell me. After I called to ask questions as to why the grocery store would raise concerns the man said he could not answer the question and HUNG UP on me. How is this considered customer service? I will be closing my account and will gladly use any other bank. Do yourself a favour and bank anyhwere but here.

Absolute joke of a bank

Absolute joke of a bank. I probably interact with RBC once or twice a month on average. And yet, by some miracle, every time I do there is a problem. I've had so many ridiculous issues in the past that I did not think were possible for such a large company, let alone bank. I've had an issue where RBC will secretely reset my password after a certain period of time, to the point that I had to change my password multiple times to the same thing until it eventually stuck. Just now I tried to send a 3k etransfer from the mobile app (which offers up to 10k) and it didn't work. So I sent 1k and it worked. Tried sending another 1k and it didn't work. Tried sending 500 and it did. Tried sending 500 again and it didn't. Just...how. Changing your limit is the dumbest thing ever too. You can only change it a certain amount of times in a year, and what's extra fun is that they set all of your limits when you just set one, and you can't change it after you've changed it until the time limit for the limit change expires. Like...why? So you'll change your debit card limit for two months (cause that's the max) and then later you'll try to change your etransfer limit but you can't cause it's locked in with your debit card limit and all the other limits. Customer service...even calling it that is a stretch. Their "customer service" is more like random people off the street who can only help you with the most trivial things. If you come with an actual issue then you get transferred to 50 different people before someone says "oh you can't do that". As I said, I use the bank very sparingly, and somehow I've encountered so many different issues over the years. It's scary how frequent and arbitrary these issues are, and if they have this many issues on the front end, I wouldn't even want to think about the back end.

WON'T GIVE ME MY MONEY-RBC are Thieves!

WON'T GIVE ME MY MONEY! The just changed their policy in January - if you read - you will know they are about to steal all account holders cash! READ IT!!! I have thousands in the bank and have been at RBC since I was a child 52 years ago!!! They want me to download the app! Do you find it funny that they keep increasing what they will allow if you do the banking on your phone. READ THE POLICY before you hit 'I accept' They can track your entire life! Don't do it! I have been trying to get my RRSP's out of the bank, my investments, they treat me like a criminal and put a FRAUD notice on my account. I couldn't pay for a few extra days at a condo I rented in Mexico as they marked my account as FRAUD and reversed the payment that I had a confirmation number for!! I had to get family back home to pay for it - even after talking to 2 bank managers at RBC that I had known for years - and they could not help me. I was hung up on twice by the Fraud dept. while I was trying to find out the issue!! RBC is the worst bank ever - CRIMINAL! Especially when I have tens of thousands of dollars in their system and have VIP cards etc. Never a problem on my side ever - and I am treated like a criminal. This is terrible

RBC has been the worst bank to work…

RBC has been the worst bank to work with. I closed my accounts and went with a different bank after being with RBC for over 15 years. As of lately the customer service has been terrible, they've lied to me and won't fix basically anything. When it comes to the online banking not only are some of the transactions on wrong days it won't tell you which store the transaction is through, it'll just say interact purchase or visa debit purchase instead of something like second cup and then what was spent. Someone could get scammed and wouldn't even know because they have no clue where the charge from until 5 days later.

I had an unauthorized hold placed on my card for a Walmart, I never placed an order or even hit an order button. Your supposed to call the bank to have that fixed and instead what I got was oh I can't fix that, it's your problem and you have to call Walmart even though I told them I just got off the phone with Walmart and they said it was a bank thing. I was also well aware thats a bank thing because of fraud charges and stuff like that. This guy clearly had no idea what he was doing.

Customer service is so rude they literally hung up on me. I told them not to order a new GIC and they just did anyway and now they want 500 bucks to cancel it and I literally told them as if there's not an auto renew button all on them but they'll try to take 500 bucks from you

the worst bank in my life

This bank is very unprofessional; they know nothing and can't do anything. I've never seen such a poorly run bank in my life, nor such incompetent employees. I'm devastated that I opened an account here. I've been waiting for my Visa Debit card for a month and a half. I've spoken to five people, and no one can help me. I could write a lot, but I'm too upset. Don't open an account with this bank. I'm on the verge of a nervous breakdown thinking about how the people who work here behave.

The most incapable bank ever

The most incapable bank ever! Their system is so clumsy to use, try their auto greeting when you have to call them, the most stupid one ever! Made a formal complanit about it a few years ago, no change at all, still the same "man" asking you stupid questions "he" can never understand. Their e-transfer verification is another hit to them: it requires me to verify with my passport, asked me to hold the camera steady and smile, the verification just stays there after I can no longer "smile". I'm a Canadian, living in Australia, it's so easy to bank in Australia. I just don't want to say more to idiots in RBC. They are all idiots!

The Most Incompetent Customer Service Ever

I rated it a one because zero or minus weren’t options. THE WORST customer service it has been my misfortune to experience. Sent my replacement credit card to the wrong address, kept putting me off when I questioned why I hadn’t received it. Two days before expiry they admit it was returned a month earlier because they sent it to the wrong address. Promised to courier it overnight. One week later still haven’t received it. Told by customer rep #2 that it wasn’t sent out and that it was active. Passed to a security rep who advised that wasn’t true and in fact, the card wasn’t even sent. Also, some moron removed ALL my account information from my online account and after speaking with FIVE different customer service reps, never got an explanation why. I am still waiting for the card and for all my account information and history to be back on line as of this date one week later. Useless, incompetent and couldn’t care less about an over two decade loyal customer.

RBC despicable thieves.

RBC
They are thieves at this bank.
How they keep customers is beyond me.
They owe me 1000$ in charges.
They didn't do a proper investigation and would not provide me with the information I needed to stop it.
They literally treat people like trash if they aren't high end customers. They steal
from the low income and then treat you like you're not Worth taking seriously.
They stole 1000$ from me.
This bank is a disgrace.
I would not do business with such a racist bank and rude people.
Be very careful.
