A fraud company that cheats customers…

A fraud company that cheats customers and provides bad customer service. Charged me fees for an item i didn't sell. I never received any communication since they were writing to an email account that was closed. Surely they saw the email bounce back but do you think they cared? absolutely not. unfair treatment and never again will i ever use them.

Not a customer friendly business

Not a customer friendly business. Lacks consumer protection and return policy. If you make a mistake you are screwed as they take very dry legal view. Keep it in mind before buying anything.

The number one Swiss Site for trustworthy bidding

I am in Switzerland and use Ricardo.ch to buy all kinds of stuff, depending on what I want. Ricardo has several advantages over other sites like Anibis, Tutti, Petitesannonces.ch and Marketplace. Firstly they have an ID and Phone verification system, and secondly they a great feedback system on both buyers and sellers. This can give you confidence that the seller will deliver the goods on time or that the buyer will pay promptly.

Ricardo sells both low priced stuff (e.g. I bought a second-hand child's piggy bank for CHF3), and they sell more expensive stuff, (e.g. I bought an item for CHF 2625). In the last two months I have made at least 60 purchases, with many of them in the hundreds of francs.

So far I have never had any big problem which wasn't immediately resolved directly with the seller.

One time the seller gave me his old bank account number by mistake. Even though the money was temporarily lost he sent me the item (An Apple Watch 8 +GPRS for CHF 150) immediately, trusting me to send him the missing money when it was returned.

On another occasion I had not received the goods after a week, so I contacted the seller. He apologised profusely that he had not noticed my payment, and the goods arrived the next morning.

Here are some tips:

1) Ricardo have increased their sellers fee from 9% to 10%. This means that some sellers will set their minimum price to a level which is 10% higher than they would have sold the item privately.

2) Sellers who do not set a minimum bid price tend to get a lot more interest in their goods. People love the competitiveness of bidding and hate being told what to pay.

3) Don't be afraid of bidding the maximum you are willing to pay. Nobody will know what your maximum is, and the auto-bidder will make sure that you never pay a penny more than the last preceding highest bid. So you might bid CHF 299 but actually win the auction for CHF 210.

4) Paying for items via bank transfer is dead easy. I use UBS and my camera to scan Ricardo's QR code at the end of an auction. The amount and all details are then auto-filled. There's nothing to type so you can't make a mistake.

5) If you are selling a common item with a commonly known price such as as second-hand Apple Watch, or a gold coin, or a TV or a phone, there is no point in putting a minimum price. There are loads of people scouring for popular items and you will immediately get low-ball bids which will accelerate to the full market value as the auction draws to a close.

"No minimum" on anything always attracts interest from people who wouldn't have thought of looking. Popular items always get bids in the last few minutes of an auction, so you will get full value.

6) I suggest sellers arranging auctions to end at times when people are awake, and not at asleep and not at meal times. You want your bidders with their fingers on the button as the auction draws to a close. Auction time is extended to three more minutes if someone snipes at the end in the last 3 minutes.

7) Before bidding, always check the stated postage cost. Always check the feedback the seller received from other buyers. Check that the seller's address and telephone number have been verified by Ricardo. Be extra cautious if a seller is selling a high value item for the first time, or if his previous sales and feedback all related to low value items. (Check by entering the previous item number as a search).

8) Be dubious of poor quality photos or vague descriptions such as "Large unsorted 20kg coin collection, with many gold, silver and rare items". If the collection contained particularly rare or valuable items, they would have been specifically mentioned and photographed by the seller. Vague descriptions of bulk items (like "Large box of tools 25kg") with the hint that it may contain valuable things to be extracted are typically dealer ploys designed as a way to get rid of the stuff that nobody wants. Obviously the photo will show the most valuable item on top.

9) Be wary of someone selling two identical or nearly identical items in two lots when they could have been more logically combined into a single lot. (e.g. two lots of five silver bars, instead of one lot of 10 silver bars). The seller may be using one of the two lots to test how high you will go by a process known as "shill bidding". The seller ends up selling one of the two lots to himself, but he now knows how high you are willing to go for the other lot.

Käuferschutz is a joke, Ricardo should be ashamed of themselves

A seller sold me fake glasses over Ricardo. I got this confirmed by the manufacturer (famous brand), who issued an official statement. Despite this statement, the seller refused to refund. I asked Ricardo to help, they in turn asked the seller to refund - same result. Ricardo then suggested that I use their Käuferschutz service to get a refund. I did that and my application was turned down because I have paid the seller using Twint (and not a bank transfer)! Not only they wasted tons of my time with all kind of paperwork (including posting documents to them), but in the end there is no refund because of a formality. Incredible and useless.

Good source for second hand equipment

Good source for second hand equipment. They do not give tracking details of your purchase. So that's a minor weak point. But all other issues went correct and swift. Source Osmani Deniz with them is trustworthy.

They support fraudulent sellers

They support fraudulent sellers, 0 support for the buyers, there's this Pro seller with more than 80K sold products, 99% toys and phone accessories with 99% positive reviews, but from time to time he sells expensive items like PCs, Phones, GPUs at very competitive prices the problem is rarely delivers these expensive items or the delivery date is 2 months (the period where ricardo can offer buyers protection, after 2 months you can't ask for buyers protection).

A search of this Pro seller negative reviews shows clearly that he's a fraudster and has scammed a lot of people including me, bought a PC in may, never delivered to this day, (September) the seller don't reply to messages and despite red flagging the article multiple times including cursing Ricardo customer support I never got a reply or got my account banned, this only shows that Ricardo simply don't give a F as long as the seller pays the commission.

No response from ricardo on false claims easily verifiable

I paid full price. Received a watch packed in an envelope only. Watch was loosing more than 10 minutes per hour. In description"watch was keeping time" Although I contacted the the seller over the official Ricardo chat linked to the product, the purchaser never replied. The purchaser gave me a bad review, using as argument that I never contacted him. My review of the purchaser was edited by Ricardo. I wrote to Ricardo to to complain about purchase as well as the review of me by the seller, which they could easily verify was complete BS, as I tried to contact the seller over their site. No response from Ricardo. seller is still active on their site... Ricardo is happy as long as the seller pays their fees. Would recommend to avoid site. No protection for buyer from Ricardo whatsoever. To date no reply from either Ricardo nor seller

Buyers are not well protected

The platform does not take too much responsibility for anything happening on the platform, which in my opinion is not quite in sync with 9% sales commission. As a buyer it is difficult to get support when things go wrong. But on the positive side the support does try to help.

Don't use unless you really know what you're doing

Very unintuitive service, I'd recommend not using it unless you really know what you are doing. Go with Tutti or Facebook Marketplace instead.

The key thing about Ricardo is that the sale is legally binding. I was forced to sell an item way below its true market price, while having offers for it for a much better price on another platform.
