Do not buy from this company

We bought a motorhome from this company a few years ago and at the point of sale everything was friendly. However we later found the van had a serious issue from a previous botched repair. At that point they didn't want to know - absolutely NO after sales service. We ended up having to sell the van to pay back the cost of repairing it elsewhere. Do not buy from these guys. They shouldn't be trading.
Edit - this purchase was a few years ago but the site only allows you to put in a date in the last year. Our difficulties arose more than a year after purchase for a serious fault that the van already had when we purchased it.

Avoid at all costs

In February I researched for local motorhome service centres near me. I found these and was booked in extremely quickly - maybe that should have been my first red flag.

On arrival to the desk I got a sense everything was a little too difficult when I explained I needed some warranty work on seals, and minor repairs to our side trim and lights that hit a bush.

However we needed it doing and didn’t want to take away and start the whole booking process elsewhere. The habitation checks were done same day and I was called to collect.

We were met by a lack luster young lad who had no clue about anything we had asked for… and they had applied silicone seal to the opposite side over head cab smearing silicone on windscreen a total shoddy performance.

He said bring back and we will silicone the opposite but we are closing now. He obviously doesn’t understand the whole process of moving and securing a motorhome.

We asked for our booklet and paperwork we supplied on check in and they’d lost it and said come back tomorrow… I was persistent and told them to go search the office… 10 minutes later it appeared it had just been left on top of the photocopier.

I asked for a quote for the repairs we had highlighted and the young lad fumbled around with paperwork for another 10 minutes which was totally wrong and said we’re closing so I’ll get manager to email tomorrow. We also paid for some special drain flusher and they couldn’t find the bottle which had the remaining fluid which was charged.

Here’s where it gets worse… it’s taken 2 months - yes 2 months to finally get a correct quote after excuses and apologies about having holidays and baileys website not working. I checked with Bailey and they weren’t aware of any major site issues and said even if site was down a dealer could ring and get pricing immediately.

I was still going to have the work carried out - but the same lad who knew nothing was the last person I spoke to and when I asked why I had done all the chasing and calls to get quote he just kept going eh um in a condescending manner.

So never will I be using these again… I believe they’ve recently been taken over so I tried speaking to the other site and guess who answered the phone. The same young lad who clearly is not the right person for this role.

Avoid at all costs… it gives me serious doubts about the habitation checks when they run their service centre in such a fashion.

Please don’t go through what I have and drive further a field to avoid the stress.

I purchased a new motorhome from this…

I purchased a new motorhome from this company. Never again, what a nightmare. I waited three weeks for it to be prepared. On collection I drove away but that's when the nightmare really began . I could not go anywhere in it as it constantly broke down . Baldwin's were very unsympathetic and blasé about it . In the end I had to get my money back . The whole thing was very stressful.

Shocked by this company

At the NEC show we were shopping for a Motorhome making the move from a caravan. After sitting in far to many we found an Elddis 185 dealer special offered by this company.
It was pointed out to us that they had one on order. And once this one was sold they had no idea when the next was available.
So we put down a deposit. Sadly over the following months we had a house sale fall through twice.
Then a family member passed away. To say the bottom dropped out of our world is just an understatement.
So I reached out to the dealer who bills them self as Honest : Friendly : Reliable and explained the situation. The reaction took me back quite a bit. Basically tough.
Now I understand that companies are in business of making a profit but as with anything the customer should always come first and in extreme circumstances they can always be some room for negotiation.
However at the first point of contact after our life took an unexpected downturn we were given 3 options. Move to a cheaper MH. Wait a few months or forfeit the deposit and walk away.
When I questioned this I was directed to a barrister as they are a small family firm and do not understand the legal side of contracts. The barrister was instructed to advise me that if I didn’t walk away and forfeit the deposit then Richard Baldwin Motorhomes would seek damages over double the level of the deposit as while they could sell that MH. The person that bought it may have bought a different one if that was unavailable so effectively they lost the profit on a second sale.
Ok so I did cancel a purchase agreement. But these tactics show little concern for the customer and put all the focus on the bottom line.
Since I was forced to cancel this MH. I have read many comments saying the same thing it seems this is common bully boy tactics.
So I have to ask myself the question if I had known this in advance would I have had any dealings with this company?
