Where it all started. Rough Trade was founded by Geoff Travis in 1976 as a London record shop and began releasing as an independent label in 1978. In 1982, the retail outlet broke with the A&R and distribution divisions and became an independent entity, as it remains today. In 1982 Rough Trade West relocated from its original site on Kensington Park Road to nearby Talbot Road. Rough Trade Neal’s Yard opened in 1988 and closed its doors in 2007, ahead of the opening of a new flagship store, Rough Trade East, which opened in 2007 in Brick Lane. Rough Trade NYC opened in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in 2013 and relocated to Rockefeller Center, Manhattan in 2021. Rough Trade Nottingham opened in 2014. Rough Trade Bristol opened in 2017. We host live shows, sell records, merchandise, hardware, beer and coffee. Come say hello!

I really appreciated the comms from Rough Trade with this delivery. They kept me in the loop about the status of where my vinyl was and when it was being sent.
The vinyl arrived in perfect condition and I couldn't fault it.
A smooth trade all round
Great service
Great service
Delivered on time
My record was well packaged
I would highly recommend
Well packaged in perfect condition…
Well packaged in perfect condition however, I received it the day after release day. It was an important release and this disappointed me.
Last time I’m ordering online
Last time I’m ordering online. Ordered five weeks to release day and they didn’t bother to deliver the item to arrive in time for release day - it came later. So poor.
Very satisfied first-time customer!
Delivery date was as promised. Vinyl record was despatched in extremely robust packaging and was in immaculate condition on arrival. Very satisfied first-time customer!
Great record shop
Great record shop, lots of choice. Great prices and deals.
Customer since 2020. Never an issue!
Have been a customer since December 2020 and have never experienced any issues whatsoever! The ordering process is easy and items have been delivered on time and intact.
The record was great.
The record was great, but the price and the cost of shipping to Canada was not so great. Cost me $70 for a record that should have been half the price, but due to logistical distribution factors, I have to pay more or miss out.
Very dependable company
Very dependable company. They ship when they say they will. The selection on the web store is really good. Going to pay a visit when that NY trip happens. Just wish prices were a little lower, but the system is what it is. I appreciate the store and use them a lot. My son, or I, check the site daily it seems to see what is new.
Good delivery.
Album arrived in great condition and on time (Release day). However, giving 3/5 in response to the rather chaotic way the planned associated listening party was handled: signed up, then it was suddenly moved to RT Nottingham with no explanation. Very disappointed, so do better.
Excellent service...thank you
Excellent service...thank you, Jack from the Bristol dispatch department. I bought the Boards of Canada album on transparent red for a birthday present. Unfortunately, the spine was damaged. A replacement was sent that moment and a return label emailed for the return sticker. You can't really get better service than that, can you? Cheers and thank you.
Excellent item and Service
Excellent item, perfectly packed, excellent customer service and absolutely no complaints. Highly recommend Rough Trade as a preferred seller.
SInce you guys switched over to Shopify…
SInce you guys switched over to Shopify as your payment processing platform, it seems items are always late in shipping. Order history doesn't display the artist name, the process feels and is clunky. Just the whole shopping experience from payments to order history to item availability seems to have gone south. Just one customer's opionion.
Finding the impossible is a Rough Trade staple
Rough Trade had an RSD item that was impossible to find. Even after it sold out on their website they managed to come across one and luckily enough I was able to purchase it for my daughter and make her really happy!
X Ray spex Delivered on time
Delivered on time, good communication, expertly packaged, highly recommended seller, thank you
Where's My Pre-Ordered Record that was Released 3 Weeks Ago?
Well, guess who pre-ordered the new Jungle Giants record from Rough Trade after saying I'd never order from them again? Yep, the album was a pre-order that was released on 5/8/26. On 5/9 I received a canned email saying that they haven't shipped the record and should soon. To be clear, I checked to see if the album's release was delayed. It was not.
Today, I emailed them and asked why I can't get this record that was released 3 weeks ago and now sits in stores and with other online merchants. I told them that I need a reason for the delay or my money back so I can buy this record elsewhere. I got a reply that doesn't answer my question but offers to escalate, and that's it. Have I truly learned my lesson? Apparently not!
Good catalogs at good prices
Really good catalogs at good prices and the way the records are organized on the web page, that's really helpful
