Hi Sam,

I'm really sorry to hear you've had a poor experience, however, this review is for a separate product. This page is for SafeContractor UK whereas I can see from your location you are based in Canada.

Please would you consider removing your review? I've also requested further information from you via Trustpilot so that I can direct your query to the team best placed to support.

Kind regards,

Poor service and non-transparent pricing

Poor service and non-transparent pricing structure that they seem to make up as they go along. Each year we come to renew, they come up with a different figure that they're unable to justify. This year it increased by £200. When asked to show how they got to the figure they get very cagey and aren't willing to show their pricing structure. Any prices listed on their website should be ignored.
Despite being eligible for the deem to satisfy discount they'll issue an invoice for the full amount and only offer the discount if you remind them, which seems very underhand. If you pay it by mistake, they're very reluctant to refund it.
We come up against the same issues year on year with different unhelpful staff.

Hi Rupert,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I am genuinely sorry to hear about your experience and appreciate you raising these concerns.

We aim to be as transparent as possible with our pricing. Historically, our charges have been based primarily on the number of employees within a business. Over the last 12 months, however, our pricing structure has evolved to better reflect the value customers receive from SafeContractor. This now includes charging per connection to mutual clients, with the first connections provided free of charge. This change is likely the reason for the increase you have seen at renewal. Prices shown on our website are intended as a guideline, as final costs can vary depending on business size and the level of engagement with mutual clients.

That said, I am sorry that this was not explained clearly to you and that you felt unable to get a satisfactory justification at the time. We should always be able to clearly explain how a figure has been calculated.

I am also concerned to hear your comments regarding the Deem to Satisfy SSIP discount. As a member of SSIP, this discount should absolutely be applied where applicable without customers needing to chase it. I have passed this feedback directly to our retention manager, as this should not be happening. While this is most likely a system issue rather than anything deliberate, I fully understand why this would feel underhand and frustrating, particularly if a refund then proves difficult.

Please accept my apologies for the repeated issues you have experienced and for the lack of helpfulness you feel you have encountered. That is not the level of service we strive to provide. If you experience any problems in future, I would welcome the opportunity to assist you directly and ensure your concerns are addressed properly.

Kind regards,
Tom Parry

Consistent only in inconsistency

I have renewed Mid-Tech Services, (XD7294), accreditation for at least 10 years. Every year without fail either the first level auditor, second level auditor, or both will ask for information that has been provided with our submission. This was again repeated this month and a further issue raised by the first level auditor, (Tom?) re external H&S support. This generic question has been answered with the same response since at least 2017, (the oldest of my records), with the response that IOSH are our external H&S advisors. This answer is based on me being an IOSH Technical Member, and therefore having access to IOSH H&S professionals for support and information. Tom accepted this explanation but it was then rejected by the second level auditor Ellie Frearson. I find it inexplicable that this answer has been accepted on a number of previous occasions by Alcumus auditors but is now rejected. Also that one auditor accepts it and another rejects it. No consistency!

Hi Kev,

Thanks for leaving us a review - I'm really sorry to hear you had a negative experience with SafeContractor however.

I can see that you are on our express package which ensures a response within two working days. I think this may well have been where the misunderstanding and ultimately the frustration has stemmed from.

The express package guarantees a much quicker initial response time, but not a guaranteed approval within those two days. I can see that you have now become approved - congratulations!

I would've hoped this was made clear, but it would seem that there was some confusion for which I can only apologise. I hope that in future approvals you will have a smoother journey.

With apologies,
Tom Parry
