First class in every way

We had an excellent two night stay at Seckford. My wife and I loved every minute and feel compelled to elaborate on why it was such a good stay

From the moment we arrived onto the property we felt relaxed and excited, as it is such a beautiful building and the grounds are stunning. The warm welcome at reception and information provided was an indication of how the members of staff enjoyed their roles. The food was excellent from Dinner Saturday evening, Sunday Lunch and breakfast. The quality and presentation was superb. We especially liked the menu describing all the local produce and suppliers, that gives a real connection to the area.

It could be wrong to single anyone out but I must say that Hattie in the restaurant and Stacey in the Spa were particularly helpful and expressed a joy to be working at the hotel that was infectious.

We visited many local areas including Woodbridge, Thorpeness, Aldeburgh (for Fish & Chips) and Snape Maltings, all of which added to a wonderful experience.

We will definitely be visiting again and are thrilled we ignored the reviews posted on Trustpilot. The reviews on other booking sites were a better reflection of the Hotel. Rooms were clean, comfortable and beautifully furnished.

A very poor night’s sleep

My wife and I stayed at this Hotel 22/08/25 room 28.
The building is very grand, it’s a pleasure to look around it and the gardens.
When we checked in, we were informed that there was a large group there celebrating life (wake) and that they would be having fireworks at 9pm. This was fine as we ourselves had to be somewhere else locally. We arrived back at the hotel around 9:30pm and was surprised to see a huge crowd right outside our bedroom window, the staff however were very quick with our concerns and swiftly moved everyone back to where they had come from.
We settled in for our well earned night’s rest.
I was awoken by a bright light at around 2am, it was an emergency exit light over our emergency exit door to the garden. At first I thought it was a power cut but quickly ruled thar out as everything else was working.
Unfortunately I need darkness in order to sleep (unlike my wife who could sleep with a brass band playing in the room). I got dressed and went to find someone who might solve my problem, not by knocking me out, but hopefully extinguish the rogue light. I found a gentleman and a receptionist, the receptionist was not help whatsoever but the gentleman (a night porter I believe) was very helpful. We visited all the electrical distribution boards but there was nothing wrong there. He then had an idea that we could cover the light with a towel or something, I said maybe a box would do the trick. It did quite a good job and after an hour I was back in bed trying to get some sleep, my wife was still asleep! Eventually I also fell asleep and awoke at 6am, the light was off (the emergency battery had gone flat) thank goodness!
In the morning I spoke with a different receptionist who apologised for our inconvenience, I also spoke with a maintenance man, he said he was going to look into it today, it was probably a faulty fitting, we only stayed for one night though.
My issue is that just an apology isn’t enough for my extremely bad experience and terrible night’s sleep. But not a mention of a goodwill gesture was made.
I feel there should have been, after all, it was my birthday treat from my lovely wife.
Everything else was very good, the comfort of the room, the cleanliness, the quantity and standard of our room and the fabulous breakfast. It was just a shame to be let down by a faulty light fitting (obviously a one off event).
Plus, just to let the hotel staff know that the USB outlets on the right of the bed doesn’t work, insignificant I know but it may help the next occupants.
