Excellent service and very knowledgeable. Nigel and penny in the reptile section not only provide service with a smile, they also care so much about the reptiles in their care.

Alice was fantastic!!! She was so welcoming, knowledgeable and charismatic.
She was able to answer all our questions and gave us a step by step to setting up our very first aquarium. My children left feeling very excited! See you in a couple weeks for our water check 😊

I've got mixed opinions on this place all of my fish bar my 2 black moors have died from here the staff olly and Pete are amazing and are always kind and have amazing costumer service but on the other had I've has some horrible experience with others I think you guys need to have a look at your staff and there costumer service skills and take a look at there knowledge as manny seem to lack it and give the wrong knowledge if you don't know something just say so so we can ask someone else.

The customer service that I received at Shirley Aquatics was second to none, everyone I met went out of their way to ensure I was looked after during the purchase and aftercare of my new aquarium.
The staff are extremely knowledgeable and really make the customer experience something special. I can't thank them enough.

Came with my partner to buy a turtle was served by Nigel in their reptile section. He was very helpful and knowledgeable. Would recommend anyone wishing to buy a reptile to visit Shirley aquatics reptile department excellent.

Arrived in a box broken with all but one tetra was left alive. The harlequin looked half dead, they didn't survive another full 24 hours. Then came the ich, before I could treat the tank, all were infected. I have been treating for three days, had to flush down hundreds of quid because of this purchase. Never again. I am reviewing the products that I received, not their store, this was an online purchase.

After being sold a terrible marine specific aquarium in 2019 from Shirley Aquatics, plus all the gear (£1800 worth of equipment etc) I put it down to beginner’s error. I was still new to the marine hobby after years of cold and tropical fish keeping. They weren’t very helpful with the after sales either. Oh well, I thought. You live and learn.
Then, between covid lockdowns, I visited the shop again and was looking for some marine inverts and coral, of which there was many and the tanks were looking pretty good. I was ignored by an older bloke chatting up and blatantly flirting with a younger girl (not sure if they were a couple or not, however it’s very unprofessional) who were ‘working’ in the marine section. I politely said ‘excuse me’ to get their attention to which I was told ‘yeah we’ll be with you in a minute’. There was nobody else in the marine section at the time. I gave them a few more minutes to serve me and they didn’t so I walked out.
Fast forward to September 2024 and I thought I’d give them another go as we were in the area and had a new, cycled tank set up and happy with the inhabitants of my old, not fit-for-purpose old one. Note - most of these fish were 4/5 years old.
Worst mistake of my life.
Admittedly it was a busy Saturday and the marine section was rammed. Prices had gone up, as everything had, and no corals were seen. There was a sale on which made the prices really reasonable - 2 for £30 etc. Fish looked ok. So I took the plunge and bought some small fish - bi colour chromis etc. The assistant totalled it up and said the purchase would be £63! Wow! “Are you sure?” We asked, only to be told several times that this is correct as all marine fish have an extra 20% off. Wow, really good.
Whilst she was bagging up the fish we had a stroll upstairs to look at the coral tank. My god, it was appalling. Unlit, filthy, swamped in cyano and hair algae. There were a few LPS holding on for life. Needless to say, we walked away from that.
Back downstairs our fish were bagged and ready at the checkout. “£103 please” said the girl in the checkout who obviously didn’t want to be there, not that I blame her. After discussion with various people over the price we were promised, we decided to pay the price just to get out of there and get the new fish home.
After the usual acclimatisation, the fish were introduced into my aquarium.
Second worst mistake of my life.
Forward onto now, I’m currently watching ALL my fish die of velvet or brook. There is no other way it could’ve been introduced into the tank. No other new inhabitants have been added to the tank.
Yes - I should’ve quarantined the fish, I know that. Heartbreaking and expensive lesson to learn.
I have lost my lemon peel angel tonight (4yrs old), one clown, a bi colour chromis and my 5 year old regal tank is dying, as is my beautiful porcupine puffer who’s about 6” long. I have no means of saving or helping them and it’s heartbreaking.
I will NEVER step foot in this place again and they should be seriously investigated for the health of their marine livestock. They clearly do not health check their fish or follow any kind of quarantine procedures of their livestock.

Went to look at a potential enclosure for my new crested gekko and Tegan and Nigel were amazing as always. Extremely informative, thanks again!

Been coming here for years and is one of the best places to go to for buying fish and reptiles! All animals are in such good healthy conditions and staff are very helpful and friendly and definitely knowledgeable especially Nigel and Tegan in the reptile section. They are such good people and really are honest and helpful with any questions you have, I’ve been helped with my reptiles there for a couple years now and won’t go anywhere else if I have a question or worry. Definitely recommend going to Shirley aquatics if u are interested in reptiles, amphibians and/or fish.

I previously went to Shirley Aquatics and it was a lovely experience. Amazing selection of fish, and two employees there, Tegan and Nigel, were super helpful and informative with my questions. Definitely recommend.

We visited the reptile department today and Tegan and Nigel were amazing! They were so helpful and answered all our questions about crested geckos. We will be back to see them very soon.

We come to Shirley aquatics regularly for the reptile section. This place is the soul reason we got into reptiles in the first place the help and attention you get as a customer is brilliant and the husbandry of the animals couldn’t be better. The team is amazing and attentive, Nigel especially who will do absolutely anything to help ,his knowledge is unreal and is just my absolute go to person when it comes to reptiles. Tegan and penny and also brilliant and friendly. Couldn’t recommend enough!!

We have been customers of Shirley Aquatics for many years now, and we will continue to support this local buisness for many more to come.
We visit on average once a week to purchase our reptile food, substrate and decor. It is extremely rare they don't have in stock what we need and the quality is always high.
We've had many reptiles from the reptile team over the last few years, all were in perfect health when purchased and we recieved an abundance of care information before leaving. The team are easily reachable should you have any questions or concerns and offer a free clinic to help with any issues.
In fact they recently saved us from an extremely expensive Exotic vet trip!
All the animals are genuinely loved and cared for, it's clear to see that this is their main priority.
We've witnessed just how knowledgable they are first hand, seeing the health improvements of many Rspca rescues they have taken in and rehabilitated.
My Son whom has Autism has flourished since we started visiting Shirley Aquatics, his confidence has grown, the time, knowledge and understanding staff have given him is priceless.
Whilst we only visit for the reptiles department all the other members of staff are always friendly and helpful.
Always a pleasure, never a chore!

I cannot recommend this store enough. Especially Nigel in Reptiles! Nigel’s knowledge, passion and care for animals is second to none. There has been many a time I have visited the store to visit him personally in need of help and guidance with my bearded dragons. Nigel is helpful, understanding and is always happy to help. The staff in the shop are always pleasant to talk too, and they are always happy to assist with any queries you may have. Overall, I highly recommend Shirley Aquatics.

Always a pleasure to visit and see Nigel and the rest of the staff in the reptile section.. My daughter bought her Hognose from here a few years ago.. Nigel setup her Viv for her and always asks how the little snake is whenever we visit for food etc.. Also gives her a health check-up every 6mnths to see if she is doing well.. very friendly and knowledgeable

I have visited a few times taking my leopard gecko who is poorly, the team there is always polite and goes out of their way to assist you. A massive shout out to Nigel who has helped me with my Lizard, gave him any treatment he needed, did a health check and gave me advice to help get my lizard better. He’s polite, respectful and friendly. Goes above and beyond for my lizard and all the reptiles he has at Shirley aquatics.

I would be lost without Shirley Aquatics just down the road. I visit weekly to get all the food I need for our various reptiles. I’ve had many vivariums and terrariums built by the talented Nigel and team. I recommend Shirley Aquatics to anyone needing fish, fish supplies, reptiles or reptile supplies. Also the staff are so helpful with any questions you may have about your pets health and wellbeing. I can’t speak highly enough about them.
