Faulty Car
We bought a car from this garage. On the journey home it went into limp mode. Error lights everywhere. They advised taking to a local garage, they covered the diagnostics bill, which concluded a whole range of errors. Advised by local garage to visit Citroen. Whilst waiting for the Citroen appointment, the car regularly went into limp mode and then developed an oil leak. Citroen found 2 major leaks and dodgy repair on the car using bathroom sealant!! This garage have ignored us so we have had to pay out a considerable Citroen repair bill on a car bought less than a month ago. Avoid this garage. They are friendly but dishonest.

Excellent garage
Had a really pleasant experience with the guys at S J Raynor... I was in desperate need of a car due to a fault on my normal car and these guys sorted me out with a lovely ford focus which has been brilliant.
Highly Recommend
I recently purchased a Mercedes E Class from SJ Rayner. The car is fantastic. Excellent customer service provided from start to finish. I highly recommend SJ Rayner for all prospective customers. They are a reputable and genuine company. Thank you for all your help!
Recommend 100%
Steve was super friendly, welcoming and honest. Genuinely appreciate his help and friendliness. Would recommend to anyone. Thanks for your time and for everything. Absolute gem in a world of many scams.
Excellent
From viewing, test driving & subsequent purchase of my Kia Sportage, Steve & the team at S J Rayner have gone above & beyond answering silly little questions about the technology as I was used to a much older car & getting it in straight away to sort a couple of little glitches. They provided me with a loan car whilst mine was at Kia & kept me in the loop throughout the process. I honestly couldn't be happier with the Customer service I have received not only at point of sale but after sales too.
Brilliant Team that genuinely want to make their customer Happy 😊
Delighted with my Purchase 😊

10% of reviews being 1 star doesn’t lie.
As plenty of others have shared. Car faulted 5 weeks in and I spent over 3 months arguing with Rayner to return the car. They had the car back twice, both times denied any faults at all and totally refused return or refund. I had to send legal letters which they continued to refuse.
Peugeot garage diagnosed 2.5k of faults to repair and I finally got my money back -£990 for the pleasure of it.
Don’t let them charge you £1.25 a mile return, don’t even accept their 60p offer.
DO NOT BUY OY67 ZDJ. DO NOT LET THEM SEND YOUR CAR TO COOPER AND CHINNS.

AVOID!
AVOID! Selling faulty cars and denying it in the hopes that the warranty runs out. They sold us a car with a serious clutch fault and an oil leak and said the noises were ‘normal and would stop eventually’. We pushed this and both their mechanic and a local garage they used looked at it and denied any fault, but also said they fixed the steering column (no fault with it). The noise persisted and so did we and they then refused to contact us unless through their dodgy solicitors. We paid out for a full investigation and discovered £3k worth of faults. When we asked for them to rectify this issue they tried to charge us £1.25 per mile done in the car for us to get a refund! They pass issues around the office, saying they can’t do anything to help. Don’t answer emails or the phone and when you can speak to them they are rude and combative. AVOID

Utter crap
Utter crap - total cowboys! Spent nearly £40k and still don’t have a working car after 7 months and 4 garages! Owner too cheap to find a decent repair! Avoid at all costs
Ace!
Sold a car here to the team - super responsive team and easy to work through to conclusion.
Recommend the company and staff (especially Steve)
Thanks team, Carl

Don’t chance it!
I bought a Mazda 6, LV13 LGK, back in August 2024. Had an error on the dash the day a brought it and for weeks after. Long story short, it went back 4 times without a resolution. And during the back and fourth over a couple of months, to try and resolve the issues, communication with the garage throughout this period was near impossible! On the fourth visit, they told me that they weren’t putting anymore money into the car.
So I started the reject process but the garage was incredibly difficult to deal with.
They wanted to charge me £1.25 per mile I had driven. This would’ve been £6.5K on a car I brought for £6K! Then they thought they were doing me a favour by then trying to charge £0.65p per mile!
Anyway, I got the finance company involved who stated it was crazy and that they could only charge £0.25p maximum, which I was happy to accept as the car was costing me a fortune to run! It was a 2.2D and I could only get a maximum of 32MPG out of it.
Managed to come to an agreement with the finance company of £0.25p per mile so was able to reject the car. Just to add, the finance company tried to contact the garage to agree a rejection price but could not get hold of anyone. So, the garage accepted the car off me at point of rejection. Bear in mind, it took until November to get to this point, despite trying weekly since August to get this sorted.
One week later, they then started to drag their heals again but this time wanted to add storage fees on top!
Needless to stay, my experience has been extremely stressful and completely avoidable. They seem desperate to lump me with this car. If they just fixed it, like I asked four times, it wouldn’t have been an issue.
The reason I have waited until now to leave the review is because I didn’t want to give the garage any reason to be even more difficult than they have been!

Hassle Free & Professional
My father-in-law recently decided it was time to stop driving and I helped him sell his car. Out of 5 local garages, S J Rayner Cars stood out, with the best offer and a confident attitude that indicated they would be our best option.
I let them know that we would be going ahead with the sale to them, and agreed to drop the car off next morning. All the paperwork was completed while I waited, and the bank transfer was made before the afternoon was up.
The whole experience was professional from start to finish. And even after the sale, they confirmed that they had cleared the sat-nav history, as requested.
Based on my experience dealing with Steve, I can't recommend them highly enough.
I have just purchased yet another vehicle and again it has been a good experience for one…
I have just purchased a vehicle for one of my family a Mercedes C 300 convertible is about the 10th car I have bought from S J Rayner cars yet again first class service friendly and always good value. I have no hesitation recommending them for your next car. David Poyner.
I purchased a VW Golf
***EDIT AT THE BOTTOM**
I purchased a VW Golf. The initial viewing with the sales man was not at all pushy, he left us to look around and gave me any information I needed. Very relaxed sales approach. They removed scratches for me also which was appreciated and you wouldn't tell they were there.
Fast forward to the day of collection. On the evening I was on the M5 when 2 warnings came on my dash, 1 of which was for low tyre pressure (Lowest tyre was 26psi). Also, over filled oil. I contacted Julian the next morning and he told me it's fine to drive and not to worry. I then went to 2 garages off my own back and both of them told me it should not be driven due to the over fill (I took a full unpaid day off work and was offered "I've spoken to matt. He said when you're in our area next he'll full up your fuel tank").The coolant level was also very low. Both garages didn't believe it had been serviced and checked correctly Julian promises me they had serviced and checked the car over. I had the oil drained (which Julian covered the cost of). Fast forward the day later... the light came back on. Julian had a driver come and collect my car from work and drop a courtesy (much appreciated) after I demanded for them to collect my car. My car was sorted 1 day later and no other lights have came on since.
I then went to look for my wheel locking nut a few days later. Guess what? It wasn't there. They dropped one to me after asking if could have headed over to a VW dealer.
Over all, they fixed (I think, I hope and so far) what was wrong. The owner still has an unread message from me also (probably busy). The fact they tried brushing off over filled oil in the first place was just a joke. The fact I had to take an unpaid day off work because they quite literally clearly didn't complete a proper pre collection check. Under filled coolant, over filled oil, low tyre pressures and no locking nut.
**EDIT**
Dear S J Rayner Cars,
Whilst I appreciate that the work has finally been completed, the fact is this:
You assured me that the vehicle had been serviced, whether or not you have paid to have the excess oil removed is irrelevant, as it shouldn’t have been overfilled.
The fact that you have also replaced the locking wheel nuts also suggests a full pre use inspection had not been undertaken.
This added to the fact that I did loose a days pay from my employer as I had to do the running about that should not have been necessary had you done the required pre use checks.
How would you expect me to react when your inaction has cost me one lost days wages.
What would you have done in the same situation.?

Highy recommend
Buying a 2nd hand car is harrowing in the current climate and this is the second car we've purchased from S J Rayner Cars. We have been to other second hand car dealers and it has been far from a positive experience! Both of the cars we have purchased from S J Raynor Cars have been great, and the service received from Steve and Matt in particular is outstanding. A professional and courteous service. Highly recommended. With thanks from Jem and Kate
Car buying experience
I have recently bought a car from this company, I saw the car on Autotrader and made the call. Dealt with Steve who was pleasant and not demanding. Returned my calls when he said he would. Looked into the issues and questions I had without any negativity.
Took videos and sent them to me as I was travelling some distance to collect the car. On the day of purchase one of the drivers collected me from the local train station no issues.
After I drove away I noticed an issue with the car and on getting home called the next day to speak with him about it. Came to an agreement without any difficulty on getting it fixed. I would recommend them to anyone based on my interactions so far. Not often unfortunately these days that things go so smoothly so thank you Steve maybe when it comes time to change you can source the next one for me.
Honest Mistake
Dealt with Steve recently on a beautiful BMW 5 Series. He was an absolute gentleman throughout contact and was not pushy in the least- very informative and knowledgeable. Needed the car shipped to Northern Ireland which he organised. I paid a deposit without realising the car wasn't XDrive. When I explained how I had a made the mistake Steve refunded the deposit and did so very respectfully. I had made the mistake and I know the company didn't have to refund. While the deal may not have worked on this occasion (due to my own stupidity) I will remember the courteous way I was treated and hopefully do business in the future!

Excellent service .Friendly staff and not pushy .Steve sold me the car ,top bloke .Transaction really easy and gave me a good price for my p/x .Highly recommended and would use again

All went very smoothly
All went very smoothly, I had been looking for this particular model and colour of car but could not source in Scotland. The fact the garage was over 300 miles from my home, and not nationwide, I thought may be an issue. However after speaking with Steve, he did a walk around the car and sent over to me, I did the same for my car to part exchange. That was the Saturday and the car was delivered to my front door at 7.10am on the following Thursday and my old car driven away. Love my car and very happy with the service I received.
