Be careful when ordering items for delivery to Canda
A Very Bad Experience with the Smithsonian OnLine Ordering
It all started when I ordered 3 items online on September 29 2025: a Murano Glass Decanter, A Baroque Pearl Necklace and a Porcelain Pierced gold plated Earrings.
Today, October 3rd I received an email at 5:05 am that my order has been cancelled. I then called Smithsonian and spoked to a person by the name of Jacklyn. She said my order was cancelled because their shipping personnel tried calling me about the shipping address. I replied saying I never received any phone calls at all. So she asked if I can give her my credit card in order to reinstate my order. In this regard I gave my credit card info to her and requested that subsequent calls be accompanied with an email to ensure my receipt of messages. She acknowledged. After about half an hour later I received a new email again saying my order has been cancelled.
I called again and this time I spoke to Patricio, Patricio was kind and diligent enough to research my problem. He found out that the shipping cost of the Murano Decanter was to be charged an extra $13.00 and that was the reason for the cancellation because I did not acknowledge this increase in shipping cost. I mentioned to Patricio that I never received any phone calls. So once again I had to give my credit card info in order to reinstate my order with the increased shipping cost, After processing my order I requested to speak to a manager and Patricio tried connecting me to one. The phone rang and the person who answered said she is not a manager and said she will connect me, After around 5 minutes later the phone line was disconnected. I waited for around 20 minutes hoping I would get a call back but nothing happened.
