Specsavers Home Team Surrey GU22 Appalling Behaviour
Specsavers Home Team Surrey GU22
Appointment Nov 24
We had a truly disturbing experience with the Specsavers Home Visits team covering GU22, Surrey. The optician, Nicola Dawson—a middle-aged woman—was condescending and openly hostile towards my 83-year-old mother. Nicola, addressed her in a loud, patronising tone and showed little patience when she needed extra time to respond. This behaviour was repeated throughout the appointment.
It was clear Nicola was eager to leave, seemingly preoccupied with personal matters as she complained to her assistant Zoe. At one point, she even rolled her eyes and remarked that their day was far from over.
Zoe, mirrored Nicola’s behaviour, appearing more concerned with gaining her approval than providing any real support. Rather than offering reassurance or professionalism, she adopted Nicola’s dismissive tone and was curt when I provided clarification about my mother’s medication. Neither of them introduced themselves or made any effort to engage respectfully. Instead, they carried on a casual conversation about internal Specsavers issues—completely inappropriate in a customer’s home.
We had intended to order two pairs of glasses, but the unprofessional and ill-mannered conduct of the Specsavers Home Visits team in GU22 left us no choice but to take our business elsewhere.
My family submitted a formal complaint about Nicola and Zoe. We received a response from Ariya, the franchise director for the area, who apologised on their behalf, however, she did not feel it necessary for Nicola or Zoe themselves to apologise for their obnoxious and upsetting behaviour in a retired couple’s home—which speaks volumes about the culture of accountability within this franchise.
If you expect dignity, compassion, or even basic courtesy for your elderly loved ones, a simple google search will display a number of results which will give you details on PROFESSIONAL Sight and Hearing teams that cover home visits for the elderly and vulnerable. I found a great company and they were shocked at Nicola and Zoe's behaviour and the inaction taken by the franchise director. The new company queried if Nicola had referred my mother for urgent follow up as a cataract was noted and it was discovered that she did not even bother to make the referral. This further proved how incapable Nicola was at doing her job as she did not deem it necessary to make an urgent referral. We knew Spec Savers was basic but clearly their stardards have slipped due to negligent staff.
My mother is enjoying her new glasses and she has had follow up care from a company that have been nothing short of attentive and caring. Just think before you subject your loved ones to Specsavers Home Visit Sight Team Surrey! 😱😠
Don't waste your money
I bought hearing aids costing nearly £2,000 - the biggest wastes of money ever. They don't worked and the after sales service is dreadful.
Specsavers Advance Elite.
I know that I have hearing problems. I had an hearing test where I worked about 20 years ago, the doctor who did this test told me and I quote ' you have destroyed your hearing, there is nothing that you can do about it' So, twenty years later I go to Specsavers thinking that maybe they can help. Specsavers did an hearing test and advised me to buy their Specsavers Advance Elite at almost £2,000, Honestly, they make so little difference and the sound is so screechy, how I wish that I had listened to that doctor but he didn't want to sell me a two thousand pounds pair of hearing aids.
BEWARE
I've always thought Specsavers Hearing team were good. However on this visit to my Mother ,who is nearly 102 and my Dad 101 ,with dementia , They decided to sell my Mother hearing aids for £1,999 . REALLY at 102! I would like to know the reasoning behind that advice . I cancelled the payment immediatly but beware if you have an elderly relation who believes evrything these people say
Never ever go to Specsavers (Hampshire…
Never ever go to Specsavers (Hampshire area) for ear wax removal They used microsuction and coudn't get all the wax out and thenused metal instruments. I told them it was painful but 'audiologist' said she was determined to remove it. 24 hours later I had an ear infection in both ears followed by cellulitis in the ear canal. My GP had to administer several courses of antibiotics to clear these very painful infections. 3 years on I've had a cholesteatoma removed, 3 hours of surgery. Consultant says it would've been caused by trauma to the ear canal and why should I be surprised as these 'audiologists' only have 1 days' training and are not CQC regulated. Shocking!
Specsavers poor customer service c I went to Specsavers in Weymouth Dorset…
I went to Specsavers in Weymouth Dorset in February 2025 for a hearing test and discovered I needed hearing aids in both ears ! I purchased hearing aids from then at a cost of £2000. I have had to return to the store three times as the hearing aids were not working the final straw was when the hearing aids suddenly stopped working while I was wearing them ! I returned them to the store and asked for a refund as the hearing aids were completely rubbish. I was told I needed to wait two days for a refund to be authorised and to go back today for a refund , which I did ! I have never been spoken too or treated so badly in my life ! After spending over 40 years in the retail trade I know how customers should be treated but specsavers don’t have any customer care at all they have now closed my account and I’m not allowed to go back to the store even for my glasses or eyecare my wife who was with me (as I am disabled ) was also told she would not be able to get her eye test or glasses there either ! And she didn’t even go there for hearing aids !! So I would say go elsewhere avoid Specsavers especially in Weymouth Dorset !!
Inner ear hearing aids
I have spent approximately £2000 on inner ear hearing aides.have been back to have them adjusted so many times and still can't hear TV or people talking. To get an appointment is a nightmare. The only way to adjust the aides is to have them do it so it gets done you go away and then try to get another appointment. Had mine over a year complete waste of money and time .wish I never bothered.
They are useless
I have given one star! That is being generous I’ve used specsavers fr about 5 years, the last time I went, they just used a machine and took about 10 minutes and told me the glasses I needed, I questioned about doing an ordinary test? Dont need to now the machine tells us everything, kept going back as wasn’t happy, sold Me some eye drops, even worse!
Went to a different optician who told me the glasses they sold me, wasn’t doing my eyes any good!
So now my wife and another friend won’t enter those doors of specsavers again, they should be shut down in WATERLOOVILLE.
Bloxwich specsavers Awful
Bloxwich specsavers Awful. Disgusting and discriminatory. The one girl had dark long hair and scab and she was vile, messing with the green scab on her lip that was discharging and then messing with my glasses. This made me feel nauseous and I had to antiseptic wipe them when got to the car. Her attitude was horrendous and rude. The one who claimed to be the manageress was also vile and rude making out it MY fault for them losing my glasses on order. I spent £300 on glasses to be treated as though I don’t pay. Never felt so put down and insulted in a shop before. Between the two of them being lazy and talking at the back and having to move to serve it was my fault they had to move. The service used to be good but since these two have appeared it’s been a horrific experience. We put a customer complaint in and was ignored, no apology has been offered and again made to feel like I have caused inconvenience by being a customer!!!!! Do not recommend any more will use another store where these two staff do not work. Other staff was friendly pity that those two rude obnoxious individuals are there.
Poor customer service
Took my nhs hearing aid to my local Specsavers audiologist where it had been dispensed as it was feeding back really badly. They told me it would be checked within 48 hours. Almost a week later I had heard nothing so went to the store as I couldn't get through on the phone, just a recorded message saying they were busy. When I got there I was told they couldn't do anything with thr hearing aid without me present. They couldn't do anything there and then as the audiologist was too busy, they were unable to offer an appointment for at least 2 weeks, which was unacceptable as I was going on holiday in a few days and wanted my hearing aids to be working. The assistant there was disinterested and seemed to have an issue even using the booking system, saying he normally only dealt with spectacles as an excuse for incompetence. This was so disappointing as the audiologist who i had originally seen when I got the hearing aids had been brilliant, courteous, patient and efficient. It was suggested I try another branch so I rang around a number of local(ish) branches and finally got an appointment 2 days later in Abive Bar, Southampton. The guy I saw there didn't check my hearing aid at all and on checking my ear said I had a build up of wax which was causing the feedback which they could remove there and then at a cost of £60. I tried to tell him the aid was feeding back in my hand but he didn't listen and said it was normal, I told him the other hearing aid doesn't do it and the faulty one didn't do it when I first got it, but he again insisted it was normal. I declined the wax removal as I hadn't used anything to soften the wax...... I couldn't understand how he was going to remove the wax with microsuction without it being softened first. Surprise, surprise, the hearing aid stopped working completely when I put it in at 5.30am on the day of my holiday, no now I have to go away without the full benefit of my hearing aids. I don't like being treated like an idiot, having worn hearing aids for some years, I do know what is normal and what isn't and to be told the feedback was normal was an insult to my intelligence. I shall be seeking assistance elsewhere in future and can't understand how Specsavers have the NHS contract.
Flawed ear wax check process
I think the process for booking ear wax check/removal is highly flawed. My ear canals had felt ‘full’ for some time, so I booked to have them checked for impacted ear wax, except you can’t book just to have them checked, you have to book an appointment that includes the wax removal as well. They tell you to put drops into your ears for five days prior to your appointment. I had my check and was told that there is no ear wax, so I have been dropping oil into my ears for no reason. 6 weeks later, after suffering a bout of vertigo, I can still feel the fluid in my ears. As far as I am aware, it is potentially dangerous to put medicated ear drops into your ears if there is no wax for it to soak into. It’s a far safer, and surely more logical, process to book the checks first, then, if wax found, apply the drops and return a week or so later for removal. I won’t be returning there, it all seemd very unprofessional.
Free Hearing - then the Hard Sell
Went in for free hearing test. I have no obvious problems with my hearing, but they talked up the results of my test and deliberately tried to make it sound worse than it was - went for a 2nd opinion with famous high street chemist who also offered a free test. Basically just like in their spectacles they try the hard sell. Tried to push me there and then to get their own expensive offerings. As I said went for a second opinion was told there was mild deterioration but no need for hearing aids. Will avoid them at any cost going forward. Will be posting a rather different more positive review for the 2nd opinion folks.
I really advise avoiding this ‘service’
Service is so poor, it is difficult to explain how bad.
Specsavers are really not geared up for supporting a service for hearing.
Amazing service
I visited my local Specsavers based in Harlesden yesterday, and I was so impressed with the service that I received, that I felt the need to leave a review.
I was seen straightaway, everyone was so polite, helpful; and professional, and basically could not do enough for me. I would particularly like to give a special mention to Amit who looked after me from the moment I walked into the store to when I left.
Thank you Amit for all of your help, you were amazing!!!
I am extremely disappointed with the…
I am extremely disappointed with the service I’ve received from the Norwich branch, particularly from the manager. After purchasing hearing aids that turned out to be substandard, I expected at least some level of support to resolve the issues. Instead, the aftercare service has been nothing short of appalling.
The manager is rude, dismissive, and completely unhelpful. Rather than listening to my concerns, they seem more interested in making excuses and avoiding responsibility. Every time I’ve tried to get assistance, I’ve been met with indifference and a lack of urgency. Hearing aids costing almost £2,000 are sent for repair but come back with the same fault. Repairs take weeks leaving me without hearing aids! Calls & e mails go unanswered and when I do manage to speak with someone, I am given conflicting information.
For a company that claims to care about its customers, the reality is far from it. Once they have your money, they no longer seem to care. I strongly advise others to avoid this branch if they expect even basic customer service. After weeks of complaint & being dismissed & refused a refund I finally got my money back but it was a fight!

Excellent Service at the Hearing Centre, Eastbourne
I had a wonderful experience with Ruth, Audiologist at the Eastbourne Store.
Ruth was extremely friendly and gave me five star customer service. Thank you Ruth for everything.
Great NHS Service
I’ve had 2 appointments at Specsavers in Grantham under their NHS Service contract. The first one was on Tuesday 4th March when I had the excessive wax removed from my ears by a very professional lady who was thorough and gave me a lot of information. I returned today (5th March) when another professional, audiologist, tested my hearing. I was impressed they use a sound proof room to do this away from any external sounds. I was informed about the changes in my hearing since my last test 7.5 years ago. My current aid was then reprogrammed (done by Bluetooth). I also had an impression taken of my ear for a new mould and give a date to return to have that fitted. The audiologist told me when I return my aid will again be reprogrammed because of the new mould. The whole service was excellent, informative and unhurried. First class service and I felt Specsavers deserve to have this NHS contract. I even heard the birds singing on my way home and that’s something I’ve not heard for a very long time.

Do not buy hearing aids from Specsavers. I did and regretted it. They were worse than my old hearing aids. I went many times because they said they needed adjusted. They never got any better. When I said 'I want my money back', they said 'You've had them more than 100 days so you can't return them'. Had I know there was a 100 day limit, I would have taken them back sooner.

The hearing aids cost £2000 and both at times had faults which meant another trip to the store, one of them had a fault that needed it to be sent for major repairs and took months. Sometimes they were returned with minor faults. They were guaranteed for four years, we have now reached the end of the warranty and the one that had a major fault has stopped working altogether. So at the cost of £500 per year it was a rip off.
