Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 160 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers frequently encountered major issues with product quality and incorrect items arriving instead of what they originally ordered. People also struggled heavily with unresponsive customer support, missing packages, and complicated return processes that made obtaining refunds extremely difficult. Some reviewers were happy with the helpful and polite staff found in physical stores. Customers noted that specific employees went completely above and beyond to assist them when needed items were missing from the shelves. These shoppers genuinely appreciated such positive in-store interactions, contrasting sharply with the widespread online shopping frustrations.

Product never arrived, no refund offered

Wife ordered two pairs of shoes from sports direct, but only one pair arrived.

They don't believe me that one pair didn't arrive and refuse to send them out or give a refund, despite me sending photographic evidence of them not being in the package.

The thread with them is unbelievable. Latest response from "Stephen" (no surname of course) and "Syed" are the two reps we've been dealing with.

Only option seems to be a legal claim which is ridiculous given that it's only 90eu worth of shoes but what can you do..

Bought runners in the Drogheda branch and the shop floor assistant took a used one off the shelf and put it in the box. I asked why was I not getting one from the store as I did not want one other people tried on and was told "Don't have any guv." I asked could they please check and he looked at tha hand held machine (never even pressed a button) and said 'Naw there's none" NEVER AGAIN" Sports direct expect you to pay full price for second hand runners. Unbelievable!!!

I ordered 2 pairs of water shoes for my grandson. 1 pair was significantly smaller than the other (same size) went to return them £5 to send back. So took them to a store and they refused to do anything - even though they were obviously faulty!

Wrong sizes sent repeatedly!

I recently purchased some size 6.5 trainers online. A size 6 pair arrived in a 6.5 box. I contacted customer service, who to be fair replied to me swiftly, apologised and said I could keep the trainers and they would send the correct size out to me.

Delivery arrived today. Box said 6.5.... trainers inside are 6! Same issue again! You'd think given the first mix up they'd take care to double check the second time but clearly not! Now I have the hassle of getting back in touch again to try and get a refund. Part of me wonders if I might be first time lucky, but given that there now only appears to be size 2.5 left online in those trainers, it looks like I've missed out due to their incompetence!!

Is Sports Direct in trouble

Is Sports Direct in trouble? My local store in Beverley never has many customers. Employ young staff with little to no Customer Care skills. With a high turnover of staff. Trained to pretend to be tidying up when keeping an eye on you. As if a potential shop lifter. Very off putting. It happens time and time again. No shopping pleasure. No wonder paying customers shop more online elsewhere. Not a happy customer. I would like to know how they would cope if a flash mob went in and cleared their shelves. Probably run home to mummy. This company is not recommended. Shop elsewhere.

Do not shop from here!

Returned trainers with a clear fault (sole breaking away after just two months of minimal use) and was refused under “no manufacturing fault,” yet given completely different reasons across Strood store (management), Customer Services, and Chatham store (assistant manager/supervisor). None of the explanations even matched the actual condition of the shoe.

Not only was this handled poorly, but the sheer gaslighting from the Chatham branch to justify their reasoning was unacceptable. Their explanation focused on the soles being “worn down,” which does not correspond with the actual fault — the sole separating from the shoe.

The decision was made upfront, and the reasoning was clearly shaped afterwards to support a refusal.

Other retailers selling the same trainers confirmed it’s a fault and said they would have accepted the return. I had proof of previous purchases with no issues, the short timeframe, and the fact the fault is only on one shoe — still refused.

This isn’t a proper assessment, it’s bias. If this is how they operate, I can only imagine how many other customers with genuine faults are being dismissed so money can be retained.

On principle alone, the level of poor practice here is unacceptable. This is not the standard of service they are legally expected to provide, and I would seriously question how this would hold up under proper consumer law review.

Avoid at all costs — shop directly with brands to protect your money and purchases. Sports Direct is not fit for purpose.

Returned a faulty pair of runners - the same pair sent back to me

Returned a faulty pair of runners. The heal clearly came off on 1 shoe i.e peeled off and was hanging. Following weeks of waiting they were returned to me (the same pair). They are only used for school and my son gets a lift to and from school so barely walks with them. He changes them when he gets home. Heels have no visibility of being anyway worn. The feedback from customer service "After further review, our warehouse team has rejected the return as the item was not identified as a manufacturing fault and appeared to have been heavily worn."

Avoid Sports Direct at all costs

Avoid Sports Direct at all costs. Refused a refund for returned items and forced store credit instead.
Their return policy is deliberately hidden (small sign at the till covered by promotions) and not explained by staff — completely misleading.
Terrible customer service and very poor business practices. Won’t be returning.

If I could give zero stars I would

If I could give zero stars I would. Absolutely shocking "Customer Service". I purchased trainers for my son and when they broke apart within weeks, I was told by the store that they "shouldn't be worn every day". Apart from the fact that they weren't being worn every day, how does that make any sense? I escalated this to the CEO - surprise surprise, I got no response. I escalated it to the Fraser Group, who apparently only deal with on-line purchases! So basically, if you buy something in-store that isn't fit for purpose, it's your loss. I will never buy from Sports Direct again.

Total scam

Total scam. They advertise their Nike trainers (pacific women) with the wrong sizing. As you pay already £4.99 to have shipped and £4.99 for shipping it back if you need a refund you kinda hope it will all go well. But it didn’t as the trainers said (UK5.5 EU39) I thought that was odd but there was no other size for the 39 as I am a 39. So I bought the 5.5 size as I needed the trainers for the same week and they were in offer…When they arrived they didn’t fit as my suspicion were right it was ended a UK 5.5 but instead of a 39 it would have fit a 38. The UK sizing is indeed UK5.5 EU38!!! the manufacturer made the mistake but it was the responsability of Sport direct to correct it. so I wonder if Sport direct bought a stock cheaper of wrongly sized trainers and it is trying to sell them thinking the £4.99 shipping and return will stop customer to send them back. A full on scam. Now I wonder why they are still an operating company!!!! Aren’t we supposed to be protected as customers? Anyhow I have informed my back to retrieve the payment…as you can do that…let see what happens…

Omg where do I start.

Omg where do I start.
I ordered a desk online and it clearly stated that it was a folding desk, when it came it wasn't. Went on to the chat to have it returned. After numerous questions and me sending a number of photos, I was told to build the desk up to make sure that it wasn't a folding one. After arguing that it definitely wasn't a folding desk and what reads like war and peace they refused to refund me until I built it up to prove it.
I built it up and guess what it wasn't a folding desk.
So back on the chat I go and have to go through the same questions send the same photos that they already had. In the end I got a refund after nearly a hour on the chat going around in circles for something that should have been straight forward. I now feel mentally exhausted.

Ordered a pair of trainese. Express delivery. Expected delivery 7 days. Tried to ring to ask if I can come and just collect them. No one answers. 3-5 days on the website for store collection. Brilliant discounts, however absolutely shite at everything else.

Won't be buying from them again

Wow I should have checked the online reviews before placing the order. Bought a jacket online that is way too big with a bad fit so started a return process. I found out that I cannot return this in store and it has to be returned via post which means I need to pay another £4.99 return postage, in addition to the £4.99 original delivery cost. So altogether I have paid £10 postage for nothing. This would be the last time I'll ever buy from Sports Direct

This company just feels so scammy

This company just feels so scammy. So today I went in to purchase some jogging bottoms. I was looking at the same rack where all the bottom were the same brand and price. They were all £11 each of 2 for £17.50. So I thought I may as well get 2 pairs. I found one pair in my size in black , and I would of preferred to get another black pair but there wasn’t any , so I looked at the same rack but in a different colour I found a grey pair in my size. Went to the till with these and a couple of other things I’d bought. As soon as I’d paid I checked the receipt to see the offer had not been applied. So I said something to the staff excepting it to be easily sorted … oh no I was told sorry they aren’t the same as one pair has a cuffed leg. This just seemed so ridiculous as they were both £11 each both had the exact offer tag saying 2 for £17.50 same brand on the same rack. I think they just hope customers don’t notice and end up being over charged. So I had to go find a new pair that didn’t have the cuffed leg so maybe not too bad except they dont do refunds only credit notes. What business does that these days ? Obviously not interested in keeping their customers happy. Seems like they are hoping to catch people out. Hull - kingswood
