Bait and switch scam

They had painters pants on sale for $15 so I went and bought three of them but no matter what I did they kept putting their membership into my car I would remove it and then it would just show up at checkout. So I went ahead and just made the purchase so I could get the pants and immediately called them to refund the membership. They said sure no problem over from the membership but you don't get the discount which was like a dollar off of each one. And then when the package arrives there's only two pairs of pants and not three. And so I call them and the girl on the phone told me that I received the discount for having the membership and so that I don't I only got part of my membership refunded and a pair of the pants refunded and now my new Total is $52 for two $15 items . And no matter how many times I repeated to her that $215 items doesn't cost $52 she insisted that they were right and going to charge me anyway. So I thought I was getting pants on sale for $50 a pair but just ended up wasting hours of my time on the phone and buying them at the regular price $25 a pair. This scam is typically referred to as bait and switch. It's an absolute scam. And it's not about the money it's about the principal and you wasted hours of my time being dishonest and greedy.

Avoid this company.

I order a set of 4 trail cameras "thru" Amazon, but "from" this company. They sent the wrong (cheaper) cameras. I contacted them first by email (to no avail) and later by phone. Customer service person said they would send out the correct mdse immediately and include a shipping label for me to return wrong mdse. That was fine, just what I hoped would happen. The next day I got a call from their customer service department saying that the product originally ordered was unavailable and my choices were to keep what they had (incorrectly) sent, or return it. I said I would return it, but asked that they credit my Visa card immediately, after all I had paid them in advance trusting they would fill the order correctly, they should trust me to return the incorrect items. They of course refused saying "they can only issue credit after receiving the mdse from me". I have purchased MANY things thru Amazon successfully. But now my advice is, when you buy (especially something expensive) from Amazon, look at who will supply the item and check their reviews. And avoid this company like the plague.

Do not purchase a thing from them

I ordered a 10 foot platform stand. They shiped me half a stand. After weeks of arguing with them they shioed a new one. Two weeks later I received it. NOW I SHIPED THE HALF STAND BACK ON 9 15 25 . TODAY 9 26 25 THEY ILLEGALY CHARGED MY CARD ANOTHER 500 DOLLARS. I contacted discover to dispute the charge. We also contacted the attorney general to file an unauthorized credit card charge. This company needs its business license taken away. Iam not a poor man . I dont mind spending the money to make sure this happens.

I should have looked at these horrible…

I should have looked at these horrible reviews before I tried ordering from them. Placed an order on July 15, 2025 for a Tenpoint crossbow. Was told that out of stock would be back in on August 8. August 8 came and went. reached out to them and was told September 11. That date came and went. Reached out to them every other day since then with same old response. I finally got nasty with CS and asked them why it takes 10 weeks and still no order delivered. Was told today that crossbow wouldn't ship until October 28. Season starts October 1 so I am really pissed. Contacted Tenpoint directly via email and a response an hour later told me to go to Amazon to order the bow through them. I did and should have it before October 9. Sportsman's Guide is probably the worst online company I have dealt with in a long time. Stay away from them

Beware a Scam site

Warning! Do not order from them. Last year I ordered a new jacket, and they sent a heavily worn filthy one. This year they did not even bother to ship anything for nearly a month. They come up with different excuses every time I speak with their reps. More, they keep trying to charge my Paypal for the same item they did not ship. 3 times so far. Scammers.

Update: After more than a month of not shipping the item and trying to charge for the same transaction 4 times, I asked Paypal to investigate the issue. Paypal eventually issued a refund . Then, this so-called company decided to ship the item. Now they keep calling and sending threatening correspondence, demanding to reverse the refund. Avoid this company at all cost.

Run, dont walk, run away

So… We start this off with me stating… I ordered something From Sportsman’s Guide as a test. You see, I am in the position in which I have a lot of people’s ear when it comes to recommendations as far as outdoor gear, surplus, tactical gear, Ect.

I bought what was advertised as a UK Municipal Police vest. I had a picture of the item on the page as a representation of what to expect. In the description there was a list of things the vest has… Like Pouches, vented padding, heavy duty zipper, and that kind of thing. Also in that description was “Styles vary, no choice”
I read that statement in the laundry list of what to expect as far as a vest goes as, “This may not have the British checkering or reflective badging or may have the walkie talkie hooks removed… or something like that. HOWEVER, What I received was a very beat up solid front, no zipper or pouch, ballistic plate carrier.

Contacted the company, was basically told that because the ad stated “styles may vary, no choice” it meant I got what I got and they could send me a new one but it may be the same.
Roll the dice kind of thing.
I explained that the list of things negates a completely different vest that has literally nothing resembling what was advertised… besides it was a vest. The customer service person listened to me and said that they will contact the buyer because that is in fact not correct.

I waited 3 weeks. I finally contacted them again and was told the same thing. “Styles may vary” crap.
Basically the company lied, misrepresented an item, then told me tough. All the while they are still advertising the vest in the same manor.
So… styles may vary means I can go into a car dealership, order a new Jeep, and get a motorcycle delivered… because they’re both vehicles right?

I will not be giving my recommendation for this company, and I would advise anyone debating making a purchase to run, not walk, run away to a better more reputable company that doesn’t lie, cheat and mislead the public.

another company that doesnt do what they state

Lets see, I ordered two guns(lets say on Monday) by wednesday they sent me a notice saying the one gun was has all the sudden been discontinued. I call and the lady I tried speaking with was so obnoxious. She constantly tried talking over me and would not do a thing. Its no longer in stock she said. I said why did you let it go for several days and why did you charge me for it. So the one gun which was supposed to be delivered was not delivered on the day they promised, I figured stuff happens, now I get another notice and its two days that its not delivered. I call Sportman and I get a notice that its a 4 minute wait, it turns out to be 19 minutes when a person actually speaks to me(not a nice man either) telling me that he doesnt know if its the delivery or the FFL dealer not there. I said, "its a business they're open 6days a week" what do you mean if they are not there..
I will NOT be purchasing from Sportsmans guide again.. every..

They will refund and cancel. Just call them 1-800-888-3006

Yes I too was charged $59.99 for an ongoing charge that I did not want.
I called Sportsmans Guide and they REFUNDED me and cancelled the subscription.
GREAT JOB
I highly recommend the company makes it a non automatic purchase. Change pages with only the subscription info.
I started and ran a very successful company based on customer trust.

Can't cancel my membership....

My shopping experience with them actually went ok. However, you're forced to buy their membership. It has a 59.99 yearly fee with it.
I go to their website to cancel my membership.... can't. I read through all their membership info, and it basically sends you on a wild goose chase.
So now I'm FORCED to call these people.
Super shady.

The North Face Women's Altamesa 500 Trail Shoe

I bought these thinking they’d be good for trail running, but they’re not. The fit is weird, especially around the heel, and my foot kept sliding around.

The grip is bad too I slipped a few times on a regular dirt trail. For the price, I expected way better.
They look nice, but that’s about it. Wouldn’t buy again.

Bought membership

Bought membership - once I added the items to my cart they were out of stock- pretty sleezy business practice. Then I went to find something similar to it -went to add it to my cart and a pop-up came up, saying “maybe you’d like this better” and it was the same thing that was out of stock the first time, messed up! Won’t have anymore money of mine!!!

Most Frustrating Purchase Experience Ever

I ordered a sleeping pad on 12/2 that was on sale for a killer deal. After it hadn't shipped for 2 weeks and having heard nothing, I checked my order status and it said it was backordered until 12/30 even though it showed it was in stock when I ordered it. 12/30 came, no sleeping pad and my order showed an updated date of arrival as 1/20. 1/20 came, still no sleeping pad. Then finally, on February 5, I got an email saying that my payment was declined (I had to get a new credit card due to fraud) and to update my information so my order could be placed. I updated my payment information within 4 minutes of receiving their notification. Again, 2 weeks later, my order status has changed to "being fulfilled" but it still hadn't shipped and there was no charge on my card. I called customer service and they told me my order had been cancelled due to no response. Their email said nothing about replying to the email to say that I had done so. They told me that I could place a new order and call back once it was shipped to receive a refund for the difference, honoring the original price of my first order. I surprisingly did receive a refund but not for the actual difference of the 2 orders. I called back and they stated that I had used a coupon on my first order and wouldn't be refunding that difference which was about another $30. That was not communicated when I first spoke to customer service and if they had, I would not have placed a second order. I was under the impression that they would be honoring the difference between the total amounts I paid for the orders. After speaking to 2 different people, they ended up giving me another refund for the coupon amount but it was still about $8 short of what I should have received. Close enough but still a frustrating process. It took over 3 months, 2 emails (non of which they responded to), 4 phone calls and 2 refunds to resolve this and it still wasn't made right. I will never purchase from this company again.

This is no longer Gary Olen's SG

This is no longer Gary Olen's SG. I've been a customer since the mail order days. I've spent a lot of money at SG over the years. They now have review " moderators " that will block negative reviews regardless of how they're worded. I just got screwed on a new military M65 jacket that was advertised to include the jacket liner. The jacket was delivered without the liner that it was represented on the website to include. Another customer left a negative review because of the liner not being delivered with 3 jackets he bought. I submitted 4 differently worded reviews that were all rejected by " moderators ". The other customers negative review was also scrubbed from the web site after SG updated the description of the jacket listing to remove the liner inclusion. The company is now owned by an investment group that is apparently fearful of the truth and creating a false narrative for customers by scrubbing well earned and valid negative reviews from the web site. Any company that has to rely on censorship to promote its products can't be trusted in my opinion. Which is the reason after 40 plus years, this customer is no longer buying from SG.

Customer service non-existent

I ordered two 4 packs of German Army surplus long underwear bottoms. I received two 3 packs. I brought this to their attention both by phone and email. I was told they would look into it. About 3 hours later, I received a message that it was their mistake and it was a 3 pack not a 4 pack. Sorry for the inconvenience. No remedy offered. Even when I pointed out to them that I had been overcharged, no remedy offered. I disputed the charge with Visa for the price difference. I would not have to do that if Sportsman's Guide had even average customer service.

BEST BOOT FOR YOUR BUCKSQuality Boots at a fair price

I just received my Bolderton 10" 800 Thinsulate boots. They are replacing my Cabela's 800gm boots that I had for over 5 yrs. They were my go to boots for I worked outdoors in all weather conditions esp below 20 degrees, they are best up but still serve it's purpose. The new Bolderton boot are durable full grain leather, waterproof and breathable, yet stylish. I'm retired so these boots won't get abused and will last me for eternity. These boots fit perfectly, true to fit and are rounded in the front so they don't look too big. We just got sub freezing temp in NYC, I don't mind, there is no bad weather just bad clothing. The price of these boots were well over $120, S.G. had these boots for $99 non member,$89 for members. Even a a non member these are a great prt, AMZ has them for $120+tax. Now make these boots in a 6" or an 8" and if not it's ok. People get these boots while they still last or discontinue.
That is all, Ric from BKLYN,NY
