This store is the default for our childs school. On the whole, very good service unless you order before a new term when they are often holding a back log of orders. But they always get you what you need. Good quality. Prices ain't cheap, but it is what it is. Delivery is fast and returns are very easy.

Stephenson’s website looks modern and polished, but the actual experience of choosing the right size is still far more confusing than it needs to be.

The sizing, in particular, needs serious improvement. Parents should not have to decode measurements like 32, 34, 36 or click in and out of sizing guides, read through several sections, and then make an educated guess.

When I buy children’s clothing from places like Tesco, Sainsbury’s or Marks & Spencer, the age guidance is immediately obvious. I can see at a glance whether something is roughly suitable for a 9–10 year old, 11–12 year old, 13–14 year old, and so on. That is the kind of practical guidance parents need when buying school uniform too.

Stephenson’s could do far more to make sizing recommendations clear, visible and parent-friendly. The key information should be right there on the product page, not hidden behind extra clicks. For items like jumpers, pullovers and other fitted uniform pieces, it would be helpful to see both the garment measurement and a plain-English age recommendation or fit guide, such as “usually suitable for age 11–12” or “comes up small, consider sizing up”.

At the moment, it feels like there is too much guesswork involved. That is stressful when the items are expensive and when parents are often having to order several pieces at once.

My biggest concern, though, is the pricing. School uniform is not a luxury purchase. It is something families have to buy. Many of us need multiples because children do not come home looking pristine every day, and washing uniform daily is simply not realistic.

I wanted to buy three jumpers, but I have only been able to buy two because the cost came to nearly the best part of £100. For two school jumpers, that feels really hard to justify.

It does feel as though parents are being stung for essential items. I am hearing more and more concern about the cost of school uniform generally, but I do not yet see that reflected in the pricing or support available to families.

Stephenson’s needs to look again at the cost of its items, particularly where families are expected to buy branded compulsory uniform. If prices cannot be reduced, there should at least be some kind of loyalty scheme, discount system, multi-buy offer, or ongoing support for families who have to purchase repeatedly over the years.

A nice, flashy website is welcome, but it does not solve the real issue: parents need clear sizing, practical guidance, and uniform prices that feel fair and realistic. At the moment, the experience still feels much harder and more expensive than it should.

The delivery is slow in a run up to the start of school year (every year same problem). Items are constantly out of stock. Plain uniform items have zero description with just one picture! The quality of garments is awful, worse then Next or H&M, although far more expensive. I have to shop here because our school offers no alternatives.
