Sometimes, it's not about whether a company provides top notch service from start to finish, but how they respond when things don't get off on the right foot. In Tapco's case, things didn't get off on the right foot when they sent their first surveyor to assess some relatively minor damp in my period basement property in West London. The first surveyor they sent to assess the damp was nice enough, very affable in fact, but he didn't pick up all of the damp that was present, and this caused some issues when a prospective buyer's homebuyer survey report recorded damp in areas not picked up by Tapco's surveyor. Despite this, the actions that followed were proof that Tapco have clearly learned a thing or two about customer service in the 50 odd years they've been trading. Three additional surveys followed (all free of charge) until all of the damp was successfully identified, including one from the delightful Brian Tanner, Tapco's most senior surveyor, who also clearly knows a thing or two about just how comprehensive a damp survey needs to be to ensure every last nook and cranny has been investigated. Apparently, I'm not the first person to say this, but I was so impressed by the lengths Brian went to to determine the full extent of the damp, I suggested that Tapco try and clone him! Even while he was conducting the damp survey, he was happy to speak to potential buyers viewing the flat and explain what was causing the damp and what the most effective course of treatment would be to remedy it.

At all times, the equally delightful team in the office: Michelle, Kerry, Lexi and Beverly (apologies if I've missed anyone out) were extremely polite, efficient and professional, ensuring that the process of booking the surveys and having the damp treatment work carried out were conducted in a professional and timely manner. I probably wasn't the easiest customer they've dealt with, but they stuck to the task with aplomb and ensured I was kept abreast of developments at all times.

A special mention as well to Phil and Mystery, who performed the required damp treatment works.

In an age when it's becoming increasingly difficult to trust the reviews we read online, I hope that this review will help Tapco to stand out for the right reasons. As I said at the start, for me, the hallmark of a good company isn't necessarily one that delivers a first-class service from start to finish, but one that can acknowledge when it hasn't got off to the best start, but then delivers a high-quality service in abundance to ensure it nails the brief thereafter.

I would have no hesitation in using or recommending Tapco again in the future.

Excellent customer service including communications from the main office about dates, times, quotes and the requirements of the work. The initial survey was professional and friendly with additional advice on walls and damp issues.

The person who carried out the work was on time every day, despite a long journey, worked diligently all day, and was friendly and respectful. He was clearly experienced and ensured the finish and fine details were all in place before the job was considered complete.

I have no hesitation in recommending Tapco.

Great experience from Garry the surveyor who came out to do the initial survey and gave us plenty of advise on how to take care of the property. He also came back a second time at our request because we thought there was further damp in the house but there wasn't! Garry still showed up and gave us some fantastic tips to identify and also future proof the house from damp!

Do not believe their guarantee - its a fiction. They completed work on a property I am buying 17 years ago. It has failed (as determined by their own surveyor, that I had to pay for the privalage of inspecting the obviously damp walls), but they refuse to honour the 20 year guarantee because they cant find the original paperwork. I have a copy of the guarantee, but without their copy, they refuse to honour it.

Excellent, profeesional, and efficient. They also provided us with a 20 year guarantee.

I just wanted to say how pleased I am with Cătălin's work, he did an amazing job with the finish on the walls, great skills and a talented guy! He really made sure he cleaned up properly too, I could see he takes a lot of pride in his work. Workers like this are hard to find!

We had a great experience with Tapco recently. Their surveyor was clear before the work and provided a comprehensive report which informed our decision to use Tapco for the work. When we appointed them they worked within our timescale. We were nervous because we'd not had this sort of work carried out before but were entirely reassured when the Tapco technician Phil started work. He explained his process and timescale clearly and was a really nice man. He worked very hard and all he required from us was a clear working space and plenty of tea! The office staff were very pleasant and kept updating us through the process. I would absolutely recommend Tapco after our experience.

I have recently used Tapco to convert my basement, which was constantly flooding and I must say their work and service has been excellent from conception to completion. Kaylan who did the work was very professional and experienced at all times and kept me informed every step of the way. Well done Tapco, I would recommend you to anyone.

I found Tapco good to deal with during the initial process, from survey to completion of the work. On the whole they were timely, thorough and polite, and provided assurance over the course of the project.
I have also found that the customer service after the event is very good.

Avoid Tapcohomedry like the plague.

Absolutely dreadful service and the aftercare was appalling. As other reviews have said, the MD John Milroy was rude and dismissive.

We paid over the odds to add ventilation to my daughter’s flat, thinking that we were paying for the best. However, the installation was appalling. We were not advised that the vents would need external trunking, so to come back to find it had been installed literally circuiting a picture on the wall, was unbelievable. However, despite saying that he would not want that in his house, Mr Milroy seemed to think that this was perfectly acceptable for my daughter and refused to make good. In the end, after weeks of stress, we managed to get the bill somewhat reduced, but had to pay for a builder to make good the damage. I wish I could upload a photograph to show you just how bad the job was.
In addition, the external vents were not as the specification, however Mr Milroy belligerently stuck to his story that they were, until we provided photographs of what he promised and what was installed. These were eventually replaced, but again only after weeks of frustration and stress.
Please avoid this company at all costs.

The team at Tapco were great from start to finish. From the initial booking for the survey to carrying out the works all the team members who I spoke to and met were friendly, informative and professional.

Great work by the Tapco team on our dry rot. Marlon showed extreme skill in matching existing fixtures and Dave also did a fantastic job on our Canopy. We used Tapco for both a survey on a property y we were intending to purchase and then later to complete works for us when the purchase was completed. We were really pleased with the end result. The people at Tapco couldn't have been more helpful and took numerous phone calls etc from us and came to meet us a few times in order to give advice on the works to be completed.

I've recently purchased a 115 year old house, and the survey showed a slight issue with damp. I'd seen Tapco's vans around, and the reviews looked good so asked for a survey, the price quoted was good and offered a refund plus a discount if the remedial work was undertaken. The report helped us to get the vendor to reduce the purchase price by the full amount.

The two guys sent to carry out the work were brilliant - really keen to do top quality work and wanted me to understand why the issue has occurred and what they were doing about it. Worked very professionally and full clean up afterwards. Top marks!

Tapco did exactly what we needed. They booked us in quickly, as it was a semi-emergency, and their engineer appeared on the dot of eight every day for two weeks. The site was left spotless.

A special mention for John from TAPCO who visited my property on 19th November 2018 to damp proof the wall below my front windows.
John arrived early each day and left the premises in an immaculate condition.
He explained the stages of work to be carried out at the start of the day and finished on time.
John should be commended for his high standard of workmanship.
