The Fly Shop is interesting in ONE…
The Fly Shop is interesting in ONE thing only - money. Friend and I adjusted our NorCal travel plans based on the River reviews on the company's website from July 4th. Top Rated = "Great".
Hat Creek - "Great"
Fall River - "Great"
Lower Sacramento - "Great"
Pit River - "Great"
McCloud - "Fair to Good"
Curious about the reviews, I asked the same from an "honest" member of a world-famous shop a bit further north along I-5. This company does not sell guided trips. This is what he told us:
-Hat creek is slow, but use these flies at dusk (entirely different selection of flies).
-Pit is ok, but sporadically (diff fly selection).
-Fall River is slow.
-McCloud has 1ft visibility, fishing is poor.
Still not convinced that a fly fishing shop would succumb to the infamous California greed mentality, I asked fliers just coming off all of them -- they reported all above rivers as very slow.
We came off the rivers on July 13th, the same day that this shop updated their July 4th ratings.....and (you guessed it) the above "Great" ratings remain unchanged.
Wont ever step foot into this shop or associate with it in the future - they deceive for money.
