Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 93 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people found that there were discrepancies between advertised and final prices, and some even reported finding better deals by booking directly with hotels. Customers also frequently encountered issues with the booking process, including a lack of confirmation emails, incorrect hotel reservations, and difficulties with cancellation and refund processing. The minority of people were dissatisfied with the website's functionality, noting a lack of essential filters and difficulties in contacting customer support, often leading to unresolved queries and generic responses. Some people also felt that the payment process was problematic, with instances of multiple charges or difficulties where hotels reportedly did not receive payments, despite customers having paid in full.

Rubbish website

I can't speak for their service but if their website it anything to go by, I won't bother to use them. The search options are pathetic - you cannot look for a specific hotel and when I put in a London postcode I got referred to hotels in South Africa and then Somerset! On checking out one or two hotels, it was definitely cheaper to book direct with the hotel or via another site.

Unsuitable T.V Advert/

In the recent Trivago tv advert three people are having a discussion across an open buffet. Not very hygienic and a good way to spread germs and illness. Trivago you should know better than that with your adverts.

Their Advert on TV is absolute…

Their Advert on TV is absolute nonsense!
“Search all sites so that you get a better deal” - really ??
They are just as “ Greed oriented “ as any and all other sites !
Been trying for weeks to get 1 room for 1 night in Newcastle on Tyne for 7/8 September - there is nothing anywhere for less than around £300 !!!
£300 for 1 night ???? I pay considerably less than that for a 1 night stay in a Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip !!
Let’s just call out these companies / Hotels for what they are :
This is about - recouping from Brexit and operating a “ take it or leave it philosophy “ but overriding both of these is just sheer greed !
Everyone in this country is feeling the financial “ screw “ from Cost of Living / Energy / Strikes etc but Companies such a Trivago make no allowance for that with their prices - they are just despicable!

Dirty parkdean

Me and my family of 4, 2 girls my partner and my dog went to lizard point holiday park on the 28th june, we stayed for 3 nights. Asoon as we arrived we noticed a creaking/squeaking noise anytime we walked around the caravan which was very annoying! (We figured out it was the steadys) so i went to reception to see if they wy could sort it out to be told they've never had a complaint about it before making out like ive lied or something but they said they've put it on the system to get the maintenance out to have a look... They never come! The whole caravan was dirty... Cobwebs, dog hair, dirty cutlery, dirty windows and so on. Also the metal thing to keep the carpet down (not sure what its called) going in to the bathroom lifted up screws and all. Parkdeans website say all carvans are professionally cleaned and being a dog friendly one i would hope they are. Also we had food on the onsite restaurant we waited 45 for sandwiches. Other than that the staff are lovely and entertainment was good!

Algotels

I booked a hotel via Trivago thinking that it was a reputable company. Once the payment had gone through I realised that I had booked via a company called Algotels who are crooks! DO NOT BOOK IF YOU SEE ALGOTELS WRITTEN ANYWHERE

Luckily I was able to get my money back via the credit card company, but Trivago need to do a better job at policing the companies that they advertise on their site!

Care Required Using Trivago

I used Trivago for the first time to source and book a London hotel. The site directed me to a provider whose price was attractive so I proceeded with the booking. My bank declined the payment and froze my card. On contacting the bank they advised that the payee was High Risk. I tried to conduct additional due diligance including phoning the provider. I tried to check with Trivago to verify the provider's authenticity but communication is online with a 48 hour response time. It transpired the provider was genuine but because I could not be certain, I booked via another provider at considerably higher cost. Trivago's website has a disclaimer stating that sometimes fraudsters advertise on their site.

Update 3/7/24
Just discovered that my second choice of provider c/o Trivago, a company called Algotels, appears to be a scam. The hotel has no record of a booking and Algotel's phone number per their website rings out.
I have cancelled my credit card and will attempt to recover GBP 1030

Used to rely on Trivago for good price…

Used to rely on Trivago for good price comparisons, thought they were an excellent site - no longer. They are advertising unscrupulous sites that you don't know if you have booked or not. A company Roomdi that you cannot contact after booking, phone number doesn't work, no email address and no booking email no ref just a message, don't book again we are working on your booking. I didn't know if I had a room if my money had been taken or not. After exhausting all avenues I contacted Trivago and they advised me to try wait for it - X, Facebook and to use Roomdi not all of which I had done. I emailed them back with all the scenarios that didn't work and they said they woukd contact Roomdi. They did and Roomdi ignored them. I had to email again to Trivago to see what was happening and finally got a answer today 4 days after this started. Trivago did not give me
Roomdi email address, they have an company on their site that 1000's of people use and look at the trouble I had to go through to get an an answer from them. They did not have the decency to contact me and I had no way to contact them. I Will not be using Trivago site again and after my review I hope other people don't.

False listing

False listing! I found Niza Hotel in Madrid 3 miles from the city centre with Agoda, clicked on View Deal and it took me to Niza Hotel in Gandia, hundreds of kilometers away on the coast! Trivago has too many scam operators to be trusted.

I will never book through Trivago again…

I will never book through Trivago again .

My husband and I are going to a party on Saturday 20th July 2024 July . I went on Trivago found the hotel we wanted and scrolled through to 20th July and I wanted and thought I had booked the room.

The booking said that it was not refundable . To have a refundable room was considerably more money. That was ok as I checked that I was booking the date I wanted in July.

My first concern was when my bank account showed payment pending but I had not received confirmation of my booking . Then the payment for £115 was taken from my account and still no booking confirmation .

I phoned the hotel and was told that my booking had be made for today 20th March 2024. I disputed this as there is no way I would have booked a week day and was advised that I needed to contact Trivago.

This was feat in its self . I eventually discovered that I has to contact not Trivago but a company called Algotels!

I e-mailed them on Friday March 15th explaining that I had not booked the room for 15th March and that I still had not received any confirmation from them. There response was that the booking cannot be changed even though I did not book this date .

I have e-mailed them back to say that this is not acceptable . I then went and a booked room directly at the same hotel with a Blue Light Card Discount .

The price of the new room £102 so cheaper than Trivago. I have informed Trivago of this.

I cannot afford to lose £115 . If I had not phoned the hotel I would not have known that the booking had not been made for the date I wanted so will not use Trivago again. I have learnt my lesson and will book direct in Future . As well as the room being cheaper the Hotel sent an immediate confirmation of the booking .

Yet another false listing written by an affiliate. This one falsely claims that we offer breakfast and leather armchairs etc. in a pub that is closed!!

People need to start booking direct with venues to avoid these false listings by people who have nothing to do with the property and linked to Booking.com for commission.

Lists scam sites as Recommendations

Continues to advocate for booking via scam sites like algotels. I trusted Trivago as a reputable company and extended that trust to its recommendations for booking. After recently booking a hotel based on Trivago's suggestion, I decided to research Algotels further. To my dismay, I discovered their one-star Trustpilot reviews and stumbled upon a thread on TripAdvisor with over 35 pages of people commenting that they have been duped and Trivago continues to recommend the scam website.
