True Traveller does not pay Trustpilot for reviews. While 96% of our Trustpilot reviews are rated 4 or 5 stars, our overall TrustScore is negatively impacted because we no longer use Trustpilot’s paid review services, including actively requesting customer feedback through their platform. Unfortunately, Trustpilot permits anonymous submissions and will not remove reviews even when we can provide evidence that they were not written by genuine customers. On one occasion, we were compelled to take legal action against Trustpilot following the defamation of a member of our staff. However, such actions are not feasible on a regular basis due to the significant costs involved. For verified and authentic feedback from real customers, we encourage you to visit our review pages on Google or Reviews.co.uk, where all reviewers are confirmed as genuine policyholders. True Traveller welcomes fair, balanced, and constructive feedback. However, we do not engage with or endorse anonymous or unfounded claims.

Absolutely fantastic service.

Well pick me up and dust me down. What fantastic service.
I needed to attend a clinic whilst in Khao Lak Thailand on the 20/10/25.
On the morning of the 21/10/25 I submitted my claim. 8 hours later the money was in my account.
Service other insurance companies may want to aspire to
Thank you Lesia and True Traveller.

Age discrimination?

True Traveller insurance was highly recommended to me - I was highly disappointed to be told that as an over 65 year old I am too old to be offered an insurance policy. As someone who regularly takes part in ocean sailing and mountain walking I do not consider myself ready for a 'golden oldies' cruise or a beach recliner yet! Come on True Traveller, how about rising above algorhythms and providing some individual service???
Thanks for your reply - but still not impressed. People don't stop adventuring just because they reach x number years of age.

Hi,

As clearly stated on our website, our policies are specifically designed for backpackers and adventure travellers, and we only insure up to age 66. We are not a provider for more senior travel insurance — there are other companies who specialise in that, and we make no attempt to hide it.

Also, for the record, we do not use Trustpilot. They don’t even tell us who leaves these anonymous “reviews”, which makes it impossible for us to address anything properly. If you want to see genuine, verified feedback from real customers, please check Google Reviews or Reviews.io instead.

Only suitable for very young and minimum risk customers

Tried to get a quote but they do not offer to anyone over 65 pre retirement age and were unable to find anyone that did they stated after I completed all my information..
This is surprising as many do ! A five second glance on google would have revealed hundreds !

Hi there,

Thank you for your comment. As we specialise in travel insurance for adventure travellers and backpackers, our policies are available to those aged up to 65. For travellers aged 66 and over, we always recommend visiting goodtogoinsurance.com, who are experts in providing cover for more mature travellers and those with pre-existing medical conditions.

Please note, this is a regulatory requirement and not something we can change.

We’re aware that Trustpilot sometimes hosts inaccurate or non-genuine reviews, which is why we don’t actively use their platform. If you’d like to see verified feedback from our genuine customers, you can find independent reviews on Google Reviews or Reviews.io.

Kind regards,

I won't use True Traveler again

Paid out hundreds for my insurance to cover my trip to Nepal to get specific coverage for Everest Base Camp. Due to circumstances out of my control, I wasn't allowed to board my flight to Nepal. True Traveler said they couldn't help and refused to cover any cancellation fees. Do not book with them, find another insurance without as many loopholes that will actually help you.

Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out.

Our cancellation cover applies before your trip begins and is designed to protect you in situations where you might need to cancel, such as illness, a close family member becoming ill, redundancy, a travel companion falling ill, jury service, and many other circumstances.

However, there are certain exclusions listed in the policy—situations that insurers do not cover. One of these is when an airline refuses boarding (unrelated to overbooking), typically due to passport issues or government-imposed travel restrictions.

We’re proud to pay out on over 95% of all claims we receive. Unfortunately, in cases where the policy clearly states an exclusion, like this one, we’re unable to approve the claim.

We truly understand this can be disappointing and are sorry we couldn’t help on this occasion.

Easy, straighforward and reliable

It was easy to claim and also easy to send all the documents using only my phone. Additionally, they acknowledge the claim the same day, and they also fulfilled the timelines provided. 100% recommended.

TrueTraveller is one of the few…

TrueTraveller is one of the few companies that will offer cover if you've already started travelling i.e you're not starting and ending your trip in the UK. Their people on the phone are really friendly and helpful and when I needed to make a change to my policy on a Sunday morning, I emailed in my change and they sorted out the issue within an hour.

Great service and will definitely be using them again.

Hope you love middlemen

Their insurance in underwritten by Axa and then further subcontracted out to other insurance companies in the country you are visiting.

To get any info or medical treatment organised you have to go through about 5 layers of middlemen to make anything happen, and then work your way back up the chain to make a claim.

Very poor service all round.

Hey Brian,

AXA Assistance is a worldwide assistance company with more than 400 employees across 39 countries, but they can't be everywhere, so they do partner with local trusted companies in some places.

You mainly interacted with AXA Assistance, and you submitted your reimbursement claim to TT at 9:30 this morning, which was paid into your bank before noon.

I’m really sorry if you feel like you’ve been let down.

Fast, hassle free medical cover

I recently made a claim with True Traveller for a giardia stomach bug I caught in Thailand, which required multiple medications to treat. I was amazed by their efficiency... they responded the same day I submitted the claim, and the money was in my account just hours later, covering all the medication and doctors fees! The entire process was quick and easy, all done on my mobile with no hassle.

Having used other insurers in the past that made claims difficult and seemed reluctant to pay out, True Traveller has been the complete opposite experience. Their service is fast, straightforward, and reliable. I highly recommend them for anyone looking for trustworthy travel insurance, that will actually pay out on your medical claims. 10/10!

High altitude trekking, one way travel and extensions available, but strict processes followed

I initially really liked this company, including how fast they are at replying, how easy it is to navigate the website, that they cover high altitude trekking, and that they allow extensions while traveling. However, when I wanted to extend my policy while travelling, I was disappointed with how inflexible they were; I needed to extend my worldwide cover by just a few days before returning to continue travels in Europe and asked - as a good and high paying customer for the past four to five months - for some flexibility to be able to take advantage of the 10% discount on extensions for the longer Europe cover which I would miss out on by using their website (due to the short extension for worldwide cover in between), and was told this is not possible. I’m not brave enough to go a few days without cover so ended up losing the extension discount. I’ve not tried claiming anything so not sure what the process for that is like.

I had varying experiences with True…

I had varying experiences with True Traveller but ultimately found their team helpful and responsive. While there were some issues navigating their website and adding medical conditions to a policy, their customer service worked on solutions, showing they aim to assist. Claims handling is efficient, and staff like Chris and Khatia provide great support. Overall, reliable. 4/5.

Easy and good customer service

When you’re planning a trip it can be quite exhausting to search for travel insurance, so many companies and options, especially when you need coverage for a specific situation. Many companies only offer customer service via email, and it takes a long time to get a simple reply. I was looking to buy an insurance policy, so I called the phone number to find out which option was the most convenient for me and they quickly answered all my questions. It was super easy to purchase the policy on their website, very intuitive and clear. Let’s hope I won’t need to use the policy during my trip 🙏🏽. Tip: if you are already traveling or you already left your home country and you need an insurance you can purchase still and insurance with them.

I used this company in the last and they refused to reimburse me after I was robbed and assaulted before a flight I was meant to take. Beware all of the protection that they claim to cover as they have hundreds of exceptions so they can and will con you out of assisting you for the service you paid for. Would not reccomend to anyone.

Hi there

To protect the confidentiality of our customers, no matter how long ago they took their insurance out with us, we cannot comment directly on any case.

However, we can say that according to the Association of British Insurers, 83% of travel insurance claims are paid. In our case, as we handle claims ourselves, over 94% are paid.

There are of course reasons sometimes when a baggage claim can be declined. The main reason is that you must choose to have cover for your baggage when you take out your insurance (or add it on later). It’s clearly shown on your insurance documents if you chose not to have baggage cover, and, it’s specifically detailed on the email we send you with your documents. So, if you make a baggage claim with no cover, we simply cannot pay it.

No claims for anything that was caused by a cancelled flight

One of my flights got cancelled and I want to book another flight in another airline, but True Traveler said they won‘t reimburse it so I said I will just let the airline rebook me to another date but I will miss some of my tours which are non-refundable. True Traveler also said they won‘t reimburse any missed tours and hotel bookings because of the rescheduled flight. I just tried to understand that it‘s their policy, I‘m just disappointed, hence my low rating. +1 star for at least answering my e-mail within 24 hrs.

Hi

Travel Insurance covers lots of risks, but only risks which aren’t covered elsewhere.

If an airline cancels your scheduled flight, this isn’t something which you can claim for on travel insurance as the airlines, by law, must handle this correctly, by either offering you a different flight at no extra expense to you, or refunding you in full. If they offered you a refund and you accepted it, then, as far as the airline is concerned, that is the end of the matter.

We do have this information on the FAQs on our website, and if you're ever unsure about what to do, just contact us as we answer all emails received before 6PM London time, same day, every day of the year.
