Customers frequently reported issues with staff professionalism, noting that representatives were often rude, unresponsive, and seemed uninterested in providing support, sometimes even blaming members for their problems. Many felt abandoned when they needed help, despite paying for years, and found that their grievances were dismissed or not addressed, leading to a perception that the service was a waste of time. Trash. Avoid and dont waste your time

Trash. Save yourself the 15 pounds a month you pay. They’re mostly incompetent and irresponsive. This is modern scam. If you do have real issues, get yourself a real representation and move on

Shocking service

I have been a union member for over 10 years, and when I needed their service for a recent redundancy they never responded to any of my requests. I called and spoke to someone and they followed up and never got back to me either. Shocking service. Especially when during stressful employment periods you pay the union for their support.

Bristol office - I can honestly say my experience with Unite the Union has been atrocious from start to finish.

I was in a workplace dispute and real crisis. The “Case” was very straightforward and within the first 5 minutes of talking to my allocated rep I was even more disheartened. My so-called “representative” provided nothing of substance. Calls were little more than basic clarifications of what I already knew, and when it came to actually standing up for me one-to-one with HR, he completely crumbled, was overpowered, and the outcome was worse than when I started. Throughout the entire process, there was no proper communication. (I have detailed evidence of all of this and am considering a serious complaint) I went through a 5 week process where I done ALL of the groundwork for my case and would present it to him on our phone calls, - I literally got more clarity from doing my own research. UTTERLY USELESS. I also unearthed several ways in which we could challenge my case - to which he brushed off ( his ego was dented as I was more knowledgeable than him about his own job) His people skills were nothing short of shocking - talking over me constantly when I was trying to raise a point and would literally talk me down and use your first name in the most patronising tone.

When I raised an informal concern about this with reception, I was told he “has ADHD and can’t help it, but he’s a nice guy.” I'm sorry but I don't care what he's got - we've all got challenges and Im paying for a service so expect it to be delivered, not for your staffs utter in-competency to be justified by their apparent mental state. I don’t doubt he’s a nice person, but this was my livelihood at stake and the response was quite frankly astonishing.

On top of this, the administration side has been equally as appalling. Emails ignored, repeated delays, and a complete lack of understanding about my financial situation.

It’s only fair I note that one member of the reception staff I spoke to was very kind, young girl/young lady, very patient, and helpful, I wish I remembered her name, she was lovely, . However, another, sounded a bit older by her voice, was extremely rude, abrupt, and dismissive ( Only thing I recall is she had a very distinct Bristolian accent - this will give you the heads-up if ever dealing with this person) which only added to the frustration.

They care only for their direct debits, they are literally like scavenges for money ( reflected in several of the other reviews on here) Their ''membership service administrator'' is quite a comical gentleman bless him, and my only regret is that I haven't got the chance to see him in person as I would have verbally dismantled him.

Once again - READ ALL REVIEWS !!!! - One person can be wrong or have a poor experience, two maybe, even a dozen, but hundreds ?! Make your own minds up !

I hope this review goes a long way to redirecting people well away from this joke of a company - they will lose far more money by poor reviews revealing them for what they are ! This review is going across every single online platform to ensure it reaches maximum people.

All in all, this union has let me down at every level, from representation, to communication, to basic respect for members. I would strongly caution anyone considering Unite to think twice.

Avoid

My experience is a very long story, but in a nutshell there was a lack of support from my union rep, even though I had a cast iron case against my employer ( I had been informed of this by others)
I repeatedly asked my union rep one question, of which they could never give an answer. This delayed things, and the 3 month rule to take things further, sadly ran out.
They clearly did not want to take the case on, despite taking my money each month.
I asked if there was someone else higher than my rep who I could speak to, and I was told that there wasn't.

I would not recommend this union.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I recently had an amazing experience with Unite the Union Work Forum. From the very beginning, my union representative, Mr. Darren Hall, has been absolutely outstanding. He stayed closely in touch with me, guided me through a stressful settlement agreement, and gave me the reassurance and support I truly needed.

Darren took the lead in making sure everything was completed on time, even fast-tracking paperwork to ensure I had the best advice and representation at every step. His professionalism, dedication, and genuine care made a huge difference during a very difficult time.

I am beyond happy, relieved, and thankful that I chose Unite the Union to represent me. I couldn’t have asked for better support. Highly recommend!

Completely Let Down – No Real Support for Disabled Members

I joined this union in the hope of receiving proper support as a disabled staff member when my employer placed me in redeployment. Sadly, the experience was deeply disappointing.
Despite my circumstances, I was told the union could only support me over the phone — yet even that was ineffective. The officer assigned to me was dismissive and unhelpful. Rather than offering meaningful advice or representation, he repeatedly threatened to hang up and simply sent me mental health helpline numbers. What I truly needed was advocacy in the face of unfair treatment by my employer.
After a while the officer eventually attended my case conference, he contributed nothing. He failed to challenge the occupational health decision that I could no longer work as a nurse due to my disability. He made no mention of reasonable adjustments and did not advocate for me under the Equality Act. He just sat in silence. I was left to defend myself alone — his presence only added to my disappointment.
I had previously raised a complaint about this officer and requested someone else be assigned to my case, but the union refused, saying it wasn’t possible. After some time, I received an email saying there would be an investigation and that I would be informed of the outcome. It has now been a month and a half, and I still haven’t heard anything back. I have emailed twice asking for the results, but received no response. Meanwhile, I am paying my monthly membership fee and still receiving no support.
This union failed me when I needed them most. Yet they continue to send messages asking for votes. Why would I support a union that remained silent while I was treated unfairly?
I cannot recommend this union to anyone — especially disabled staff members seeking genuine advocacy. They don’t care, they don’t communicate, and they are happy to take your money while giving nothing in return. Don’t waste your money. I feel completely let down.

If I could give zero I would

If I could give zero I would. I just wish I’d read the reviews and checked out what they stand for before I’d joined. These people area self serving bunch of individuals! They're not interested in working people. Rep was not interested, he was rude, complaining about how many hours he’d done, told me basically to do it myself. I’m glad I realised only after one payment! Feel sorry for anyone who has paid a long time into this scam!
Just glad I was able to cancel my direct debit before they were able to take any more out! Money’s hard enough to come by so save your money and stop paying them folks!

It's a scam

It's a scam. I brought them a valid case against my employer which they refused to do anything about, saying that I have a low chance of winning so they won't take it on. I have since spoken to a solicitor and citizens advice who all agree, it's worth pursuing.

I should have read reviews first before giving them any money. Nobody has anything positive to say about Unite, they're just money grabbing.

The one thing that is really poor from them is that the person they assigned to my case actually works for my employer... which is a MAJOR conflict of interest. So they're not interested in helping you, they're interested in helping the employer...because they work for the employer. It's ridiculous. The union is basically another HR. It is not for the people.

Lastly, I cancelled my membership but I was still charged. The union closed my account, but still took my money and they're refusing to refund it. The money was only taken yesterday. The day they closed my account. They purposefully waited until the money was taken, before closing my account as I requested, and I cancelled in good time before the money was due.

I can honestly say this company is unjust and does not care about you at all. That's why they have negative ratings everywhere. Listen to reviews. Avoid them. I wish I had read the reviews.

Surviving Unite the Union- when solidarity proves to be an illusion

While smiling in my face and promoting Unites values, my rep done as little as possible to address my issues, leaving me to pretty much advocate for myself and hid from addressing the majority of issues I brought to their attention. I felt like I was going mad or being unreasonable, until someone asked if I thought I was being institutionally gaslit? Once I looked up this term, it made perfect sense, and I began to realise that my life was being treated like the truman show. it was as if my union rep and employer were purposely dismissing my suffering, just to see what I'll do. Thankfully I haven't cracked up or done anything stupid. For me, its been three years of deliberate delays and service failures. I'm still working towards getting the justice I know I'm due. I've read a handful of reviews on here, and would like to encourage all members of Unions who suffered from their abuse, to stay strong and keep fighting for the outcome you deserve!

My union ignored my grievances

My union ignored my grievances, told me my case had “no merit,” and pulled out two weeks before tribunal when I refused an unfair settlement. I went on to win alone — proving they were wrong. We pay for protection, but I was abandoned. Unions aren’t regulated, That must change. I’ve now started a petition to Parliament to demand regulation, so other workers don’t suffer as I have.

Divided we fall aka unite union

I was a senior nurse in nhs. The unite union helped kill me in the work place and sided with a person from another union with a malicious complaint against me that wasn't upheld. I'm BAEM. Unite and Sharon graham's army are racists in denial. I advise if you are a member leave. If your not a member don't join this racist union who will kill baem staff in the work place when you most need them. I was out of work for 17 months thanks to unite racism toward me.

Not helpful, money for old rope

While I was having trouble at work with individuals and pay scales, I contacted Unite at Glan Clwyd Hospital three times by email, getting no reply. The email was correct as the emails didn't bounce back. I couldn't wait any longer so i resigned. After that, I got in touch with Unite Wales about the issues, and they've just gone round in circles. I got in touch with a senior rep who basically sent me round in circles. asking me repeatedly what the issue was.
I would not recommend this union to a cat or dog.
Being as this is the standard, I cannot imagine that the indemnity I paid for would be worth anything, if push came to shove.
My recommendation is that you join something else, there are other options.

Needed help for disability discrimination, was then required to aggressively chase.

As a disabled individual with a neurodevelopmental disorder, I relied on Unite to assist in submitting a claim against my former employer for disability discrimination.

I was ignored by my representative 10 times, and upon filing a complaint and escalating it three times, the response focused on semantics and the terms I used within my complaint rather than the fact that I had been ignored 10 times.

The terms in which I use may not be accurate, however this is irrelavent to what my complaint was about. Despite escalating three times, I was still declined representation.

In the complaint response, they quoted something I sent onto their portal (something I had to do repeatedly) from 4 months ago as a "gotcha" and ignored the actual basis of my complaint.

Both escalations ignored the fact that I wasn't represented despite chasing over 10 times within a 3 month period, and instead stated that it was my responsibility by the regional secretary. Essentially inferring that despite being ignored repeatedly, it's my fault.

I feel that instead of spending £112 million on a hotel, it would be more beneficial to use that money to train their representatives at a fraction of a cost.

Very poor.

Very poor.

I can't put nothing one star. But not do anything defend the company not the member. Call many times and didn't call me back. Waste the money.

I am a member of Unite and phoned up to ask for support with a work issue and the lady on the phone could not have been less helpful.
