Mordechai Vanunu is a hero. In 1986 he was illegally kidnapped and taken by Israeli agents from Italy to Israel and put in prison for 18 years for telling the truth about Israel's illegal activities. Namely, that Israel has amassed a stockpile of atomic and nuclear weapons that it has developed in secret since the 1940s. This stockpile of nuclear weapons is illegal under international law. Israel does not allow inspections of its nuclear facilities and Mr Vanunu's only 'crime' is to have told the world the truth about Israel's Dimona nuclear plant where Israel develops its nuclear materials.
Today, Israel openly 'enjoys' a status of 'nuclear ambiguity'; holding weapons of mass destruction illegally whilst evading the regulations that honesty and transparency attracts to other nations who hold such abominable technologies.
Mordechai Vanunu is clearly a person of integrity and an unsung hero to the world. His website tells some of his story and shows the photographs he took of the Dimona plant in 1985 before he was illegally extracted from Italy the following year by the Israeli regime, confined to a cell of six by nine feet for the following decade. His testimony is evidence of Israel's chronic hypocrisy in the Middle East and the moral redundancy of the international community as it allows Israel to continue to act illegally with absolute impunity in the world, scheming aginst and persecuting its Arab neighbours, exercising policies of genocide and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinians. The audacity and hubris of its leaders unparralleld in the world when supported by the US, France and the UK, with endless false accusations against Iran, claiming Iran is developing nuclear weapons whilst Israel itself holds an estimated 400 warheads. In fact, Iran is the one Middle East country with a documented record of proposing that the Middle East be a nuclear-free zone.
But most claims by Israel, as most rational people know, are fabrications concocted by a rogue state that has lied and deceived the world since before President Kennedy requested inspections of its facilities in the 1960s. And shortly after met his end on that fateful day in Dallas, Texas, many say with Mossad involvement.
Today, even after his release from prison, Vanunu continues to be persecuted by Israel, confined to Israel as a prisoner within a state set up without international mandate or ratification, that only seems to care about its own imperialist interests and continues to silence its critics with violence, incarceration, theft and destruction of land and home, with the threat of still more violence. Are these the actions of a God-loving people?
