Pet Care Advice
Customer Hub
Pet emergencies can happen at any time – including when your regular vet is closed.
That’s why our nationwide network of out-of-hours pet emergency clinics are open through the night, at weekends and on bank holidays, so we’re ready and waiting to provide expert pet emergency care when your regular vet is having some time off.
Our pet emergency clinics are the pet equivalent of A&E and our purpose is to give you and your pet the care and support you deserve, at the time you need it most, whether it’s four in the morning or in the middle of Sunday lunch.
Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from over 60 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and two 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 200,000 small animals every year — our highly-skilled team works hard throughout the night, weekends and Bank Holidays. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.
We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our two hospitals — in Glasgow and Manchester — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Went to them with a Dog that had lost hind leg mobility, She was given a number of tests with out any real diagnosis costing over £700 the location was over 20 miles away, being a long distance for a distressed animal, we were offered palliative care and felt like she was being given her last rights, in the costs we noticed £1 had been taken to a blood charity without authorisation, I know it’s only a £1 but it’s the principle. Walked out heartbroken Dog, is still with us.

My dog was seen immediately upon arrival. The vet, nurses and reception were all very helpful and caring and I cannot fault the excellent service. The only disappointment was that I was told there was a £35 admin charge for Vets Now to submit the insurance claim. I decided to submit the online claim myself. I was later surprised to receive an additional £35 charge for Vets Now to verify the information I had provided to my insurer. I appreciate the reasons that the out of hours service is more costly, however, I have never been charged an admin fee by my own vet or the veterinary specialist for this service

We were seen by ira she was absolutely amazing
The nurse prior unfortunately did not seem to be very aware of our kittens condition with how dehydrated he was but we were very glad the vet picked up on this.
Would definitely go again to walnutree in an emergency.

Honestly, cost aside because we all know vets are expensive especially when dogs do dumb things out of hours, these guys were great. From not batting at eyelid at my ugly cry face to the cleaner checking how the dog felt about vacuums to the vet making me and another customer giggle at the image of both our dogs having a tactical chunder on opposite sides of the room, they were all great.

The Vet was really caring and helpful in an emergency situation. Hannah was calming to me and my cat and kind towards him as he was in a lot of pain at the time.

Unprofessional service, money is taken for I don't know what??? I don't recommend the worst emergens I've ever been to.

The receptionist was very helpful and empathetic, and the vets as well when we arrived. They immediately helped us on arrival and were so kind and talked us through everything that was happening with our little chihuahua

Emergency out of hours (early hours) visit with a cat in pain. My cat was barely examined, given metacam and sent away. My cat has today died after surgery for a blocked bladder. He would have survived if this had been picked up sooner or indeed he was checked over properly

I have given 3 stars because once my dog was treated she responded well and is now absolutely fine which I am very thankful and grateful for, however…
After a very deep sleep in the late afternoon (most unusual!) our dog was lethargic, staggering about as though she was drunk and shaking. We had seen this behaviour once before in a previous dog when she had eaten something toxic so we ‘phoned the emergency out of hours number and, after giving details and symptoms, were asked to bring her in.
On arrival the receptionist noted how shaky she was. She was weighed and we were then asked to sit in the waiting area. We were the only people waiting. We waited for 20 minutes and for most of that time the vet was behind the reception desk on the computer while I was holding our dog on my lap trying to stop her shaking.
We were then called into a consulting room where the vet asked various questions, took her temperature and commented that just by looking at her she could tell our dog had ingested something toxic…and would feel better once she was on a drip.
However, she then asked us if we have pet health insurance (we do) and said she would get a quote ready…and disappeared out of the room. She was gone for a good 5 minutes (my husband says it was more like 10) while we were left with a dog who was clearly distressed, head down and back arched while shaking uncontrollably on the table.
When the vet returned she went through the quote, explaining our dog would need blood tests, be on a drip for 24 hours etc. etc. before asking my husband to sign it. Only then did she pick up our dog to take her off to start treatment. As we left the room I glanced at my watch to see that it was now 40 minutes since we had arrived at the surgery.
That forty minutes could be the difference between life and death for an animal that has ingested a toxin. There did not appear to be any urgency, even though we had arrived as an emergency and it rather felt that the vet was more interested in sorting out payment than treating a suffering animal. I found this very concerning.
Before leaving I was told we would get regular updates on how she was…we didn’t. I ended up ‘phoning them before I went to bed to find out how she was and then again in the morning to find out when we could take her home.
This experience at what was a very worrying time was most disappointing.

We were guided through how to receive a video call with patience and understanding, the vet on the call was very reassuring and put us at ease with our little dogs situation,

Nurse and vet were just wonderful at a rather stressful time kind, caring and considerate. Not once did it feel rushed we felt listened to and we were talked through all options and treatments, even though it was gone 1am! Vet was also brilliant with our cat, fussing him and talking to him. Overall much less stressful than it could have been.
