Visited the Portsmouth clinic with my…

Visited the Portsmouth clinic with my dog in the early hours of a Sunday as he’d been vomiting and his stomach was hard and bloated, he was clearly in pain. The vet sat on the floor so he would not be made more uncomfortable by picking him up to go on the table. She was kind, gentle and quick in his examination and treatment. When I explained he gets sick with anti- inflammatory drugs as pain meds, she prescribed dog paracetamol with codeine, to take with me which I have never been offered by my regular vet. He has recovered well and the paracetamol has been a revelation. He takes and tolerates it well and I could see it working as he visibly relaxed and was able to sleep at last. Thank you so much!

The prices are astronomical. You better sit down before you pay!

The staff weren't too bad, but I didn't like how much it cost for a 15 minute chat and an opioid injection for my poor suffering dog. It cost me £362 and I'd already seen 2 different vets for the same issue and I am now up to £800, I'm sick of funneling money for them to tell me the same thing.

Hi Robert, thanks for your feedback on the cost of your pet’s care at Vets Now. We appreciate that taking an unplanned trip to an emergency care provider can be frustrating. It’s much more expensive to run an emergency clinic than a regular daytime veterinary practice and our prices do reflect this. Caring for deceased cat

Thank you for your support on Sunday 6th July . My poor cat had been killed by a car on Saturday evening and we found him Sunday, we brought him into you and spoke on phone a few times when he was missing. He is with you now to be cremated. My beautiful boy is missed so badly. Think it was lovely Trisha that helped us xx

Expensive but Worth It

We had an emergency on a Saturday afternoon when one of our three dogs had eaten a large quantity of chocolates (we didn't know which one). We took all three to VetsNow in Hilsea, where a very calm and reassuring vet explained that the best course of action was to make them all vomit up their stomach contents. An hour and a half later I have three empty dogs - one very sorry for herself having sicked up the chocolate, and two innocent bystanders.

Next day all were back to their normal lively selves. Expensive (as there were a potential three victims) but worth every penny. And a lesson learnt.

We were on our way back to France as we…

We were on our way back to France as we noticed that our 14.5 years old dog started to suffer from stomach torsion. We quickly managed an appointment at the clinic. We received a very kind and professionnalt welcome from the nurse The vet, Matt I think, has been very precise in his explanations. He confirmed the diagnosis of a stomach torsion. In regard of the age of our dog Flam', and due to his general state, we decided to put her to sleep. This was a very very difficult moment but we know she left us without suffering. All the staff has been very king and therefore, we would like, my wife and I thank you all for your kindness in such a sad situation. Our house will seem empty for a few days.......

Vets Now Portsmouth

My beautiful cat Wiley was taken very ill on Sunday night and the PDSA arranged a super swift out of hours apt at Vets Now Portsmouth, which I was so grateful for. The lady there on reception and the Vet (Catorina I think) were just brilliant at such a sad time for me. I cannot express how much their empathy and kindness meant. Especially the Vet, who was so clear in the info she gave (and so kind, when I became overwhelmed by this and current grief in my life) and was so compassionate when Wiley was euthanised. I will be forever grateful for their kindness.

Very professional and efficient

I was pet-sitting for a friend when the pet became seriously ill. I called vets now and they were very friendly and professional. They calmed me down as I didn’t think the dog was going to make it. After taking some details they sent me a text with the directions and I got in the car. I found the place and the staff were very calm. The vet I saw was very efficient and gave the dog the appropriate treatment. This was at 7pm on Saturday night. Thank you to the team.

Extortion of the highest order

The whole experience was extremely traumatic. Not only was I in shock and emotional due to my pet being in a distressing state and unable to walk due to a car hitting her, I was then confronted with ridiculous quote of nearly £3000 for investigative treatment just to find out what further treatment may be needed. When told I couldn’t afford it, the vet simply stated “well if you can’t afford the treatment you may have to say bye-bye, as nothing can be done for free”! This was an awful thing to say at any time but at that particular time it was disgusting!
Upon deciding just to take some pain relief and risk waiting to see my own vet the following day, I was again confronted with an extortionate bill of £420! Just for the vet to have looked at my injured pet, tell me she was in fact injured and issue a seriously overpriced syringe of pain relief! What a joke!
For comparison, my own vet completed a number of x-rays, sedation, anaesthetic, cleaned the wounds, popped a dislocated joint back into place, issued a weeks worth of pain relief and anti-inflammatory and gave me real hope of a full recovery, all for the price of £720!
I would seriously think twice about taking my pet to vetnow for any emergency treatment in the future, given the extortionate prices and horrendous bedside manner!
I appreciate fees must be covered and wages be paid but consideration should be made to lower prices as there is no logical reason costs should be that much higher than a regular vet! You wouldn’t turn up to A&E and expect to pay a substantial price to be seen!

Sadly on the 9th of March 2025 we had to say goodbye to our beautiful German shepherd Poppy.
Bridget was very kind and her compassion helped us through this heart wrenching time, all the staff on duty that morning were kind and most importantly allowed us space to say goodbye.
I cannot stress enough how their compassion helped us to cope with the sad loss of Poppy.
