About Vets Now

Pet emergencies can happen at any time – including when your regular vet is closed.

That’s why our nationwide network of out-of-hours pet emergency clinics are open through the night, at weekends and on bank holidays, so we’re ready and waiting to provide expert pet emergency care when your regular vet is having some time off.

Our pet emergency clinics are the pet equivalent of A&E and our purpose is to give you and your pet the care and support you deserve, at the time you need it most, whether it’s four in the morning or in the middle of Sunday lunch.

Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from over 60 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and two 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 200,000 small animals every year — our highly-skilled team works hard throughout the night, weekends and Bank Holidays. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.

We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our two hospitals — in Glasgow and Manchester — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Excellent, efficient service

My call was answered fairly promptly and I was given help by a polite and warm person. I was quickly directed to the nearest emergency vet and given full instruction to find and what to expect when I arrived there.
The personnel at the vets were very kind and thorough. Immediate steps were taken to identify the problem and provide pain relief, before referral back to my usual vet.

It was like a warzone in the waiting room. The practice was understaffed and the few who were there kept telling us this, when actually I needed maximum reassurance that our very poorly cat would get the very best care. I felt like we were an inconvenience and that caring for our boy was just a hassle they could do without.
I paid the bill in full and when I phoned to chase the sharing of the info with our insurance company, was told there'd be a £35 charge for VetsNow to do this.
I would never recommend this practice.

£280 (before VAT) for a 10 minute consultation

I don’t have complaints about the vet, particularly, although her advice was to take our dog home, make her comfortable and contact our own vet first thing on Monday. For context, the dog looks as though she has had a stroke and is clearly very unwell. The vet used a lot of words but did not really give us any answers. My issue is with the sky high fees. I do not consider that we have had value for money. The consultation and out of hours fee, excluding VAT, was £280. Also, I am concerned that the admin fee for processing our claim through our insurance – something the insurers make it impossible for me to do myself – is £30. £41 for an injection of Prevomax and £24.17 for “fees” associated with the injection.

Hi Jane, thanks for your feedback on the cost of our service. As you may be aware, it’s a lot more expensive to run an after-hours emergency vet service. The greater running costs we incur are reflected in our prices. Is an emergency a chance to charge inflated prices

Using the emergency vets is always a stressful time, this is a great service and much appreciated however the cost is often prohibitive meaning that animals may suffer unnecessarily. Then to be given incorrect advice i.e advised to give our dog Aspirin which could have had a disastrous outcome and finally charged £27 for two paracetamol is taking advantage of an emotional situation.

Unacceptably poor service

Unacceptably poor service. Our dog had been attacked by another. The wound the vet did find was not well treated and the work had to be redone by our vet to ensure it healed. The vet failed to even spot the larger wound which we found once we got home, so had to go to our own vet the next day. No painkillers or antibiotics were administered for the period until we could see our vet.

Waited 2 3/4 hours with my kitten. Was told we’d be next several times. After 2 hours,I asked if anyone had a rough idea of how much longer it would be I was told there were several unstable patients before me and they couldn’t possibly say. I left at 8pm without being seen. Thank goodness it wasn’t too serious. One vet on a Sunday is obviously not enough. Terrible.

The price was expensive but it was outside of normal hours! The girl I spoke to on Saturday evening was very good, helpful and it came across that she genuinely cared. I arrived with my dog early Sunday morning and the vet was brilliant and calming- it has only been a few days since but the dog is now drinking and eating and more lively .The vet also explained any information about the procedure and the aftercare I should carry out ! Thank you !!!
