Poor communication and unexpected router fee after cancellation

I was recently charged €35 by Vodafone for not returning my router after cancelling my contract. I did receive cancellation letters on paper, but there was no clear or explicit instruction included that the router needed to be returned, nor any reminder before the charge was applied.

The cancellation process itself was also unnecessarily slow and complicated, taking almost two months due to poor customer service responsiveness and lack of clear guidance.

Overall, the communication around cancellation and equipment return feels incomplete and misleading by omission, resulting in avoidable charges and frustration.

Charged me €728 euros

Charged me €728 euros, told me it was a mistake, didn’t give me my money back. Threatened me with jail when I was the one who tried sorting the issue out. Ruined my whole time at university. Also cancelled my contract and charged me for it then reactivated it against my will.

Very poor experience with Vodafone West, Germany

Very poor experience with Vodafone after closing my contract.

I moved out of Germany, stopped using the service, and returned the modem on November 28, 2025. Based on my Abmeldung date, the contract end date was updated to 14 days later (December 14), which I understand.

However, I did not receive any bills after November through the usual channels such as email, SEPA direct debit, or the Vodafone portal. I only received the final bill for December (up to December 14) much later by post in India on March 29, 2026, which came as a surprise.

I paid the full amount immediately on the same day and informed Vodafone with proof.

After paying, I only raised a question about being charged for a period when I was not using the service.

Despite this, Vodafone transferred my case to a debt collection agency on April 3, 2026.

My issue is simple: I paid as soon as I received the bill, yet the case was escalated instead of being reviewed properly.

Very disappointing experience, especially for customers managing accounts from outside Germany.

Ripping off customers

Unauthorized €340.99 debit — no notice, no explanation, no accountability

I am a Vodafone Germany customer on a 2-year contract (Customer No. 121416080). On April 1, 2026, Vodafone debited €340.99 from my bank account under Invoice No. 122169701622 — nearly double my standard monthly fee — with absolutely no prior notice, no itemized breakdown, and no opportunity to contest the charge.

What makes this worse: I am currently traveling overseas. I discovered this unexplained deduction remotely, with no way to resolve it in person. My direct debit mandate has been active throughout the entire contract. Not a single missed or failed payment. My contractual obligations have been met without exception.

This is the fundamental problem with granting a company direct debit access: they can deduct whatever amount they choose, whenever they choose, and you only find out after the money is gone. That is not a billing system — that is a blank cheque.

I have formally demanded a full itemized breakdown of the invoice, an immediate refund of any amount exceeding my standard contractual fee, and a written explanation of why this charge was triggered. I have received nothing substantive in response.

Upon my return, I will be initiating a SEPA direct debit reversal (Lastschrift-Rückgabe), filing a formal complaint with the Bundesnetzagentur, and escalating to the Verbraucherzentrale if this is not resolved.

A 2-year contract is supposed to guarantee predictability and trust. Vodafone has delivered neither. I would strongly caution anyone considering a direct debit arrangement with this provider to think carefully about the financial exposure they are accepting.

Very poor service in Munich

Very poor service in Munich, Germany. This seems to be by design whether intended or not, in my case I wanted to call Australia from Germany, so I called Vodafone to recommend a tariff to book to make the call less expensive. The lady was kind and spoke english and confirmed the 20 euro tariff was set and I could call Australia within the month for as long as needed. Then the bill came for the next two months totaling almost 500 euro. I called Vodafone again for a refund given I’d relied on advice that wasn’t correct. They agreed to do this. But after two months they still have not refunded me. And they still keep charging me while they have not paid me back. The staff are simply not well trained or even negligent. I think Vodafone needs to be taken to court on some of these matters before the message hits home.

Absolutely the rudest most vile customer experience

I have lived in six different countries, and this is by far the most incompetent and unprofessional internet provider I have ever dealt with.

Where do I even start?

For six months, they double-charged me and then had the audacity to imply it was somehow my fault for having two contracts — as if anyone would willingly sign up twice. Instead of fixing their mistake, they deflected responsibility and wasted my time.

They also misled me about contract switch dates, conveniently causing me to miss the eligibility window for a promotional offer — which locked me into paying more for the next two years. Whether this is incompetence or deliberate, the result is the same: the customer pays the price.

Without my consent, they scheduled a technician appointment on a date when I wasn’t even in the country. When I called to reschedule and explained the situation, I was met with shocking disrespect — including being spoken down to and having my intelligence insulted by their staff. Completely unacceptable.

And all of this would be slightly more tolerable if the service actually worked — but it doesn’t. The internet connection is unstable, unreliable, and constantly causing issues.

This company has been a constant source of stress, frustration, and unnecessary drama. I am genuinely relieved to no longer be their customer.

Avoid at all costs.

I am so shocked and disturbed that people who are this vile get to work in customer service.

The customer service is utterly…

The customer service is utterly useless. Having to contact this company must make every Vodafone customer distraught. The 'help line' employees must thing they work for 'hinderance line'. Companies like this deserve to fail and go bankrupt. They are not interested in helping anyone. Their employees are arrogant and are barely able to speak German. It is no surprise that Germany is going down the toilet with this attitude towards customers. The entire Customer Relations management team should be dismissed and normal people given their jobs for the simple reason that nobody can do a worse job than they are currently doing, and it is clear that you don't need any special skills to to this.
And seeing the percentage of negative views it is clear that Vodafone management doesn't care.

very rude and bad support service

the company is already bad but if you're a foreigner - please avoid the company at all costs. I just had a horrible conversation with one of their support team member as it was difficult for me to figure out how to cancel the contract and then move to a prepaid card. she was shouting at me, saying that everything is so easy and it's very sad I can't understand, then said that I take too much time and that I should not call the support team again. It was just a terrible experience. Leaving vodafone for good.

No internet service since 1 week 😡

No internet since Wednesday and still no resolution. I reported the issue, called multiple times, and was promised a technician on Monday. I stayed home and missed work, but no one showed up. On top of that, my ticket was closed without fixing anything.

Since then, I’ve contacted support several more times and keep getting the same answer: “technical support will call you back.” No one ever does, and there is no clear timeline for fixing the issue.

I rely on internet to work from home, and this situation has been extremely disruptive. Honestly, this is the worst customer service I’ve experienced in Berlin so far. Completely unreliable and very frustrating.

Despicable service - Look for reliable providers

Despicable service.
As others said, they do not deserve any star. Stay far away from them and look for reliable providers.
I signed a contract with Vodafone DE to have the glass fiber installed at home and get a modem. This happened a month ago. After I signing the contract, I received the vague promise of getting contacted by their technicians to book the installation appointment. Guess what? Radio silence from then. Never got a call, neither an email despite them having all my contacts. I called the support today around 5 times. Nobody that wanted to speak EN and they hanged the call on me every single time also in rude ways. I assume it must be part of their training.
I then went to a physical store to learn that there is nothing they could do cause I signed the contract online and the service is not reliable and so now I still have to wait, lord knows how long. What a shit show. Frankly. In Germany's capital in 2026 to have internet at home via Vodafone you need to wait months.
I will seek for legal advice against these ...

7 days no internet - no fix, no ETA, no accountability

Vodafone cable internet in Hamburg 22609 has been completely down for 7 days. Called hotline multiple times, used normal support channels - zero resolution, zero concrete ETA.
This is not a minor inconvenience. A week without internet affects work, communication, and daily life. Vodafone's response has been to keep stalling with no technician visit scheduled and no clear timeline.
Next steps I'm taking: formal complaint to Bundesnetzagentur (German telecom regulator) and evaluating extraordinary contract termination under §314 BGB due to sustained service failure.
Vodafone - a paying customer deserves at minimum a clear repair date. 7 days of silence is unacceptable.
