Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 99 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. People frequently struggled with poor vehicle quality, encountering unexpected rust, persistent mechanical failures, faulty parts, and severe manufacturing defects shortly after taking delivery. Consumers also complained about deeply unhelpful customer service, rude advisors, communication breakdowns, and frustratingly lengthy delays when trying to resolve urgent problems. Some reviewers were happy with individual staff members who provided friendly support, efficient roadside assistance, and genuinely helpful service during unexpected vehicle breakdowns. A few consumers additionally mentioned positive experiences involving smooth vehicle purchases, great trade-in deals, and reliable maintenance services at specific local dealership branches.

Avoid avoid avoid !!

Avoid avoid avoid !!! A bunch of liars non attentive staff , who take your money and then don’t care when things go wrong . I have had my car less than 10 months it’s been in with VW Blackburn at least 8 times , on my recent visit I was told my brake pads and disc are perfectly fine and can drive at least another so many thousands of miles , my brakes failed the other day costing me over £300 to repair. I have reports which also state there was nothing wrong with the brakes , I have literally driven 3k in the last 10 months … they whole service as been poor they feed you lies and I would advice people to avoid at all cost !!!!!

Poor customer service

I recently visited Alan & Day to fix a faulty indicator light on my 2-year-old Volkswagen, which is under warranty. Shockingly, I was told the repair wouldn’t be covered. This is unacceptable for a vehicle of this age, especially considering the safety implications.

Despite escalating this issue multiple times and emphasizing that I have a young child, I have received no call back from a manager or resolution. This lack of communication and refusal to honor the warranty is deeply disappointing.

Volkswagen should address this matter promptly and improve their customer service standards.

The most expensive replacement key in the world

Needed a new key for my ID4.
Cost £340 (with discount) had to be ordered from Germany as they could only programme it suit my particular car with registration number, identification number etc.
When it arrived they wanted another £120 to programme it!
What a rip off

Super sad that we were strongly…

:( Super sad that we were strongly encouraged to take the new car ordered, 6 months earlier than expected. then within weeks we discovered that the same vehicle was available for contract hire at half the price. Had we waited we could have had it for half the price too. We have contacted VW and they said, no going back on the price agreed. They claim they didn't know the price would drop. As it turns out they have to sell a certain number of electric vehicles a year otherwise they get fined, so they offload them towards the end of the year, which would seem that they knew exactly what they were doing, nice way to treat a good customer of 10 year hey :(

wanted to buy a brand new car.

I am writing to express my disappointment with the service my partner and I received at your Colchester showroom this morning. We were eager to test drive a vehicle as we are considering purchasing a brand-new Volkswagen, but unfortunately, our experience was far from satisfactory.

Upon arrival, the representative assisting us seemed uninterested in helping, which made the experience immediately uncomfortable. We were handed the keys to a car with less than 30 miles of fuel left, which complicated the test drive, especially given the traffic in the area.

When we returned to hand back the keys, we found it difficult to get anyone’s attention, despite colleagues walking past us. It felt like there was no effort to provide us with further assistance or address any questions we might have had.

I regret to say that due to this experience, we no longer feel confident purchasing from this showroom. The lack of basic customer service and the overall unhelpful attitude have left us quite disappointed.

Diabolical service this far from VW UK

Diabolical service this far from VW UK. Raised a complaint in June 2024 due to flaking paint post a repair at a VW garage, chased via email and phone no joy now advised complaint closed and need to start process again and no evidence anything has been previously done. It’s October and trying to pin anyone down who is prepared to discuss it is impossible. It’s the first and last VW I will ever buy

Marshalls VW Dealership Horsham

Having made a reservation on a VW T-Cross and a confirmed appointment to view and test drive, I made a three hour journey to Marshalls VW in Horsham. The vehicle had been cleaned externally and on first impression looked promising. However, on inspecting inside the car it was apparent that the interior and engine block were covered in dried mud and the boot even worse and covered with mud and straw, it appeared to have been through or in some water . Clearly the car had not been cleaned or valeted, on enquiring why the car had not been prepared for sale, the response was that Marshalls policy is not to valet a car until it is sold. I am astonished that the dealership manages to sell any used cars on this basis. The car was filthy and clearly had not been looked after. A wasted journey, but perhaps a lucky escape as following a full valet there was no sign of its previous misuse. The attitude to potential buyers is regrettable and lets down VW and sadly upholds its poor rating on Trustpilot.

2 year warranty means nothing for some items after 2 days !

New vehicle wipers jump all over the screen. As I stay several miles from the deaership I percevered with the issue for 7 months. Went to western VW at Newbridge Edinburgh, they said the wipers are not covered under warranty. Even although they were faulty from day 1. car only done 8000 miles but they were not interested. They said £60 plus VAT for new ones. I ended up buying Micheline bladed for £26 per pair inc VAT, fitted in 2 minutes. What customer service do western volkswagen actually have. Dont care and want to rip you off. How on earth can wipers not be warrantied in a new vehicle. deplorable

Agree with the others; VW don't care about you.

I have to agree with the many other comments here that say VW approved used is not worth a pinch of salt. I was sold a car that had an error driving on the way back and was told by the roadside service not to drive it. They collected it and took it to a dealer to be repaired, and I heard nothing back. I had to chase and chase only to find that they had no courtesy vehicles and couldn't repair it for weeks as they were 'too busy'. I've been trying to complain for months but keep getting ignored; at one point I was told I would receive a hamper which I've not even received. I chose VW over ford (same vehicle just a different badge) as I expected VW would be better, but won't make that mistake again. You'd think if I spent £50k with someone they could at least answer your email. Buy Ford.

Today has to be the worst day dealing with VW

Today has be the worst day with dealing with customers service, I took my 2021 Cupra formentor with 24500 in to have a fault diagnose p0805 Clutch position sensor , so after being in most of the day I decided to give them a call ,only for them to say its still being looked at! Then 45 mins later they called back to say that don’t know what the issue is and we need to speak with technical service and that’s taken all day! So when do you expect them to call back? Sorry we don’t know , so when do you expect my car to be fixed, sorry we don’t know Please save yourselves the stress and buy from anyone who doesn’t belong to VW as i need the car for next week to take my wife for her chemotherapy treatment! So thanks VW for the stress!.
Don’t use group1 Skoda in Southend there are as much use as a chocolate teapot .

Approved used not worth anything

Approved used not worth anything. Was sold an ‘approved used’ car with bad corrosion underneath. Inchcape Bury (now owned by Group 1) refused to compensate ‘due to age of vehicle’. VW Uk could not provide any details of requirements that retailers have to follow when deciding if a car meets approved used standards and doing the approved used ticklist. This is despite VW UK underwriting the approved used warranty. VW UK also stated that they make final decision on complaints but stated they will never over-rule retailer. So pointless. Ombudsman have taken our complaint but no outcome as yet after 6 months. If this fails we will go to small claims. Strongly advise paying RAC/AA to check any car who would have told us the car was most likely used to reverse a craft into the sea on multiple occasions and warned us not to buy. We have learnt a very sad and costly lesson. Thank you to Trustpilot passing on this review to VW UK. I look forward to the response.

So further to my last review of 3rd of…

So further to my last review of 3rd of september we have an update and this escalating faster than a Bugatti.
Finally after 2 months VW finance issued an invoice after costing me my first sale of my transporter to a 3rd party and £4500 i requested an invoice on 28/08/2024, which i immediately chase up due to their track record with myself of doing absolutely nothing or getting everything wrong, I'm told 48hrs , i chase again and again and again up until 03/09/2024 and still no invoice , so I put a review on here and their Facebook and FINALLY we get an invoice. Not 48hrs later but 288hrs later, anyway invoice is immediately paid by the purchaser and is triple checked by 3 of us. I call VW to inform them and they say money will show in 24 hrs, I'm not confident as their timescales have not gone well so far. So I check on 4th, nope no payment 5th same , 6th same, I called them everyday as they seem to have to be pushed or do nothing , anyway Thursday 5th I finally hear from complaints and still no payment , I get to speak to the most arrogant person at VW that despite VW all along accepting they're at fault and WAY outside their time scales and admitting btheir mistakes and poor advice , He starts changing the bar, suddenly its not 48hrs anymore its 2 working days (not what im told) and according to Mr arrogant 2 working days from a Wednesday is Monday (is Mr arrogant for real) and still ignoring the fact that it still wasn't issued and that VW policy is WITHIN 48 hrs
so now the kids are back at school I should be back at work however I'm off as I have no vehicle and no payment, this was 5/09/2024 a full 8 days after requesting the invoice and payment is still not there and their costing me £300 a day, does Mr arrogant care despite admitting responsibility? NOPE
says he'll check next morning for the payment
next morning.......nothing
Mr arrogant calls me at 15:35 on friday, Hes finally found the payment 3 days after it was made and 9 days after request of the invoice and phone calls every single day, Id informed VW that I will be billing them for lost work from Monday 2nd September at £300 a day so I'm £1500 out of pocket and a huge backlog, What does Mr Arrogant offer? £500 absolute insult and now everything isn't their fault anymore them taking 2 months to carry out a simple request and costing me a sale is somehow my fault , 6 days is acceptable for a 48hr invoice and the garage is at fault for the payment being incorrect reference (3 of us checked that reference)
AND
Lets not forget the detail Mr Arrogant keeps forgetting
THE MONEY STILL ISNT IN MY DAMN ACCOUNT
Now its the weekend , My rate for weekend call outs is £200 PER HOUR and i've already turned down 2 emergencies costing me £400 and i've logged the calls. any further will also be logged so now I'm down £1900 and climbing , Monday will be £2200 out of pocket because of VW messing up repeatedly and there recorded accepting fault
BUT
Mr Arrogant doesn't accept fault despite multiple people at VWFS accepting fault and thinks £500 towards a loss of £2200 caused by VWFS is anywhere near acceptable
Mr Arrogant says he cant authorise more than £500 so I ask to speak to someone above his paygrade that can actually sort problems however Mr Arrogant is too arrogant for that and claims he cant , what absolute lies , anyone can get a supervisor. I He tells me they wont authorise it, despite he never even spoke to them , tells me he did (no he didn't because he never put me on hold) So I ask for a 3 way call while he asks , Mr Arrogant says OK, Did he ? no he put me on mute then claims he did it. Mr Arrogant will not negotiate at all as turns out customer service and complaints resolution are not in Kim Jong Putins skill set despite working in complaints resolutions
So now hes insulting my intelligence as well. I tell him its fine we will got to FCA as they've already accepted responsibility and I request my letter from them to say they won't resolve my complaint so I can escalate (they have to do this by LAW) says he'll email it straight over
and............
Typical of VWFS and this whole debacle Ive not received the resolution letter either and......
STILL NOT RECIEVED THE ACTUAL MONEY THEY OWE ME

Johnson’s VW Birmingham.

I purchased my second T Roc Cabriolet from VW Johnson’s Birmingham.
I made the enquiry on line and was contacted the very next day by my sales person Sam.
Sam went above and beyond to provide me with what I needed, he wasn’t pushy but helpful and attentive, meeting my very long list of wants!!!
The process had a few glitches but Sam worked quickly to resolve issues, he kept me constantly updated, by calling me when he arranged to do so and sending me important updates.
Handover day, Sam couldn’t have done anymore to make this special for me, if your considering a new car would thoroughly recommend him.
Definitely deal with him next time and will recommend him to friends. Thanks Sam!!

Superb Professional and friendly

Alan Romero at V/W Denia was an absolute jewel. Nothing was too much trouble as he patiently dealt with our new TIAGO purchase, trading in our three year old T Cross. Showroom was busy but Alan remained calm and gave us his full attention. The handover too was very professional - thank you!

Thankfully not everything is as reliable as a Volkswagen or we would be at a standstill

We have owned a few Volkswagens from new over the years that did suffer from an unacceptable number of issues. I made the mistake of believing that Volkswagen had possibly improved their product when purchasing another new polo GTi in January 2024. The car suffered from an intermittent issue within the first few months after covering less than a 1k miles, that resulted in a total breakdown, which was resolved by their breakdown service. The car then appeared to suffer from an oil leak, and was duly booked in to Volkswagen, but their lead time was a month later ( hardly surprising as they are probably kept very busy). I was only informed 3 days before the appointment that there would be a £144 charge if their technician could not find the issue being reported. The leakage of fluid did not appear regularly, even although the engine cover is stained and greasy, so I was reluctant to go ahead with the booking. I contacted Volkswagen customer services who believe their product is a "quality brand", and merely confirmed with the Volkswagen dealership the information I had already given them. Customer services believe my complaint has been resolved, stating it is now closed. I have owned many marques from new that suffered from intermittent faults, that were eventually repaired, but were NEVER charged for when their technicians either did not have the knowledge to diagnose or find the faults. I explained all this and the fact our Volkswagen prior to breaking down, suffered the fault as intermittent, that would very possibly have never been identified at that stage. What chance would we have had on recouping every £144 paid for each booking prior to the breakdown, if the dealership did not accept there was a prior issue, as they could not find it, or that it was a symptom of the breakdown. This will most definitely be the last Volkswagen we will ever own, and I would strongly advise that prospective customers of this marque, look and consider all other options. Vehicles are now very highly specified, resulting in all the more to go wrong and therefore difficult to diagnose, especially if the fault is intermittent. It must a strong consideration that it will cost owners £144 for every fault they experience under warranty, that the Volkswagen technician is unable to identify. The advert for Volkswagen used to read If only everything in life was as reliable as a Volkswagen" Well thankfully it isn't.
