Appalling and traumatic experience. I am extremely disappointed with the level of care my dog, Benny, received at Well Pets following a dental procedure in July 2025. Fourteen teeth were removed, and I was told his prescribed antibiotics were out of stock. No suitable alternative was provided, and I was not informed when the medication later became available.
After surgery, Benny was in severe pain, bleeding heavily from the mouth, and unable to eat or drink. Despite multiple return visits, his condition worsened. An emergency vet later discovered open, un-sutured extraction sites that had become infected, requiring further surgery, hospitalisation, IV fluids, and a feeding tube. The additional treatment cost around £4,000 and caused great distress to both Benny and myself.
I have raised a formal complaint with the practice, but their response has been unsatisfactory simply saying this was a "complication". I feel the standard of care fell well below what should be expected, and I would urge other pet owners to ask careful questions about post-operative care and available facilities before proceeding with dental surgery here. I have now progressed my complaint to the RCVS. Unfortunately it does not appear I am able to upload a photo of him showing the state of his mouth following surgery at Well Pets.
