phone call tells me I have money in an old online trading account (I did use one 12 years ago). Asked for money to reactivate it so I can withdraw funds now in the thousands. Paid, reluctantly, a small sum and start the withdrawal process. Now they ask for large sum nearly £1500 so the bank clearing the funds can verify its not money laundering. I contacted the bank direct after they refused to send me any confirmation correspondence and they said its a scam.
It's a complete scam! Someone contacts you and introduces themselves as your broker. Initially, you operate with a small amount of money and indeed, you earn some returns. Later, you are encouraged to operate with a larger amount of money, with the process taking a couple of days. Your broker then calls you, accusing you of buying 50 shares instead of the 5 they advised, and tells you that you're going to lose everything unless you transfer more money immediately. Eventually, everything is gone. It's manipulation and playing on human emotions. They steal people's identities and use fake certificates to prove they have broker licenses. Never trust these people!
