I purchased an add-on from their store
I purchased an add-on from their store, installed and configured it, but it never worked correctly. I reached out to the add-on's support desk but never received a response. Frustrated, I left a review on the WordPress site explaining my experience, only for it to be removed. WordPress advised me to contact support—something I had already mentioned in my review that I had attempted. It appears that WordPress is actively taking down reviews they don’t like, even when the feedback is fair and constructive.
They blocked my account for a violation…
They blocked my account for a violation of "Terms of our Agreement". Nothing has changed on the site. They have yet to tell us what terms we violated. They have no phone number. Everything via chat. They said they emailed. They did not. They have now escalated it and will "get back to us soon". Meanwhile my site is down during the biggest growth times of year. They are costing me money.
DON'T USE THIS PLATFORM. Plenty of others that are faster and more professional
Absolutely terrible
Absolutely terrible. Breaks all the time, confusing interface, and the support team is useless. Do not recommend.
A Huge Letdown
I’ve rarely encountered a platform that so effectively squeezes money out of its users as WordPress.com. You start off paying for a plan that promises everything you need to create a decent website, but you quickly realize that every normal feature requires an additional, more expensive subscription.
It feels like a classic bait and switch: you think you’ve purchased a comprehensive solution, but in reality, you’re constantly running into locked features. Want to use a header video? That’ll cost extra. Want to get rid of ads on your site? Again, you need to pay more. These are basic capabilities that other platforms usually include in their packages or price more transparently.
Frankly, I regret ever spending money on a WordPress.com plan. If you don’t want to waste both time and money on unlocking basic features, I strongly recommend looking into Wix or Squarespace, which at least won’t charge you for every little upgrade.
Bottom line: WordPress.com feels like a never-ending stream of upsells that hinders your ability to build a proper site without paying a fortune. I’m deeply disappointed and would advise anyone to steer clear.
I've been a webdesigner since 1998 and…
I've been a webdesigner since 1998 and I can code in HTML just fine. I've also used endless CMS platforms. WordPress is understandable by my customers who want to work on their own websites. Being that WordPress is free on your own hosting, why would anyone complain? The classic editor allowed HTML more easily than the block editor, but my customers are able to use the block editor and they had a very steep learning curve for the classic editor. I think WordPress had got better and better. You just need your own hosting and to be careful of the 3rd party plugins. Gradually I've come to use WordPress for all my websites. I've extracted customers from WIX, Squarespace and others, where they were paying a fortune and felt trapped into those systems. Once in the WordPress system on independent hosting everything is way better.
The most stressful Monday evening I…
The most stressful Monday evening I could describe. Being an Engineer, I know that you should be able to work into a new environment with little trouble or at least enjoy the learning process and build a project and to plan ahead.
This program and process of losing your saved input, trying to guess the icons that are frankly Braille symbols, triangles and squares, trying to work with parts that somebody had five minutes with a crayon to decide the baffling icons. The Mensa Testing Memory process of the quick key lists. And as has been said, so called free shot access that then shows constant signs for upping the intake for further monies so that you can then actually have more usage that would frankly be more confusing without in depth know how or fore knowledge of web-page building.
As with most of these, do not believe a lot of the drafted reports stating their greatness and ease of use or free play through columnist riff-raff. The Orwellian distribution of downright and dismal larceny of the hard working, well keeping individual.
Lied about URL then want to charge you more
I purchased a domain then it was completely different, with the word 'jovial' in it for no reason. Not showed to me before the purchase. They have also forced the free site with 'wordpress' in it because you cannot just pay £13 a year to have .com as it initially tells you before and during payment. You have to have an entirely different plan that ups the price to almost £50 a year if you ever want to see the actual URL you paid for. Beyond misleading and false advertising. It's theft. AVOID. Use any other company.
Surprisingly bad UI and lack of design control
I don't use them directly, but my hosting company offers free WordPress site building. It's famous, and I though it would be an easy way to make a simple blog for my friends' band that they would be able to log in and edit themselves for new events and such. But, the UI for editing is surprisingly bad and unintuitive. There are often multiple places to set what seems to be the same setting, and still the "right" setting may be somewhere else. Themes are crappy and shockingly some of them want money to enable basic features. I understand that people with no coding experience can make cookie cutter sites with this tech and focus on content...maybe it's a good solution for that. Maybe I'll consider trying it for my own research blog, but based on my experiences so far, I'll look for another solution. Then , it just decided to remove all the content I added with the recommended Kubio editor...all gone! I'll never use WordPress to make another site.
Try other online platforms rather than defaulting to wordpress
Some customer service would be an improvement. A question asked on October 4 (+/-) and inside my trial period, pre-payment going hard, pertaining to how to work around the alt.attribute alert which disabled any photos to be shown on my site selling handmade artwork has never been answered....it's December 19th. That's bad response time. Not even the bare minimum! I was a returning customer, too. As this happened and I couldn't turn my website on - FOR MY BUSINESS - I complained and halted the payment with my bank. Wordpress informed me that complaints of this nature took up to 80 days to resolve...on an account that was 5 days old. Beware policied strictly adhered to that only protect the company vs. the customer.
As an alternative, I highly recommending Square Space as less expensive, easier interface and vastly better customer service. I went there on October 6 when it became apparent I wasn't getting an answer from the "Happiness Engineers" at wordpress (dumb name even if they were adept) For the degree holders in management: THIS IS A BAD WAY TO SAVE MONEY!!!! Not that they will but they should pay attention to the people telling them that!
Horrible performance!
Horrible performance!
You can do minification, use webp, cleanup assets, CDN, downscaling images, using a lightweight theme, removing slow plugins and every other performance trick that exist, but the only thing that really helps is to run away from Wordpress as fast as you can.

I paid nearly $600 dollars for 3 years to build a website. Once logged in after a few months to check what's going on. My account got disabled and I couldn't use it. Wordpress has an AI self help that routes you to knowwhere so you can't speak with a live agent.
I literally got scammed ou tof $600 bucks. Don't use this company unless you want your money taking for no reason and now way to get it back or speak with anyone.

Absolutely hate this moronic badly thought out, illogical, cumbersome and plain stupid design, that is limiting beyond belief.
It looks like it was made in the 1970s and someone forgot to change it EVER!
Don't go near it unless you are a pro or want to hire one!
WordPress: A Platform Divided
I've been using WordPress for my website for several years, but recent developments have significantly impacted my experience. The ongoing drama between WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg and hosting provider WP Engine has created uncertainty and instability within the platform's ecosystem.
Mullenweg's accusations of WP Engine's lack of contribution to the open-source project and his subsequent actions have led to a power struggle that could have negative consequences for WordPress users. The recent legal battle and the potential for future conflicts raise concerns about the platform's long-term sustainability and the future of the WordPress community.
In addition to these issues, I've also encountered performance problems and slow loading times on my WordPress website. While these issues may not be directly related to the WP Engine drama, they contribute to a frustrating user experience.
If you're considering using WordPress, it's important to be aware of the current situation and weigh the potential risks and benefits. The platform's future is uncertain, and it's possible that these issues could have a negative impact on your website.
Beloved by its community
21 years of development.. Wordpress as an CMS is 21 years old. And according to their own blog, they still spend 4000 hours on development each WEEK.
While my usage of Wordpress has been back and fourth between services my experience as at many times been very positive.
The dev support, the simplicity, the desire and ability to make things more secure.
Thank you wordpress!
The only negative thing is the overly deceptive addons market where addons creators often twist, obfuscate or even hide things to make you pay.
Its not Wordpress fault however a sort of negative side-effect of its open addon market.
