The product is excellent, customer support could be a lot better. When my alarm is triggered I get phone calls, texts and emails. Easy to set up, great value for money. I have the cameras for years, got burglar alarm recently. I was also annoyed at the price hike but nobody could provide that service forever for free. I pay €13.99 a month, have the burglar alarm, cameras, very happy. The app lags a bit, and as mentioned, customer support might answer instantly or not at all. For €13.99 a month that’s not good enough. The product doesn’t deserve the internet slating it got due to the price hike. If customer support was better I would have given 5 stars. The product itself is 5 star.
Just love these cameras and great customer support. I started with 2 cameras and because the product was so good I ordered two further Evo cameras and an outside camera.
I was having a problem with one of the cameras going offline so contacted Y-cam by email. I had a response within 10mins from Antony Fernandez who quickly identified the problem which turned out to be the performance of my broadband, My broadband isn’t brilliant on a good day but it was playing up as we’d had snow and cold temperatures. Once the broadband service improved it was all fine.
Well, after all the moaning about getting ripped off with the monthly charges I finally have a way out of owning this Camera - an EVO. Few months out of warranty and almost out of "free" storage - attempting a return. Unit started clicking every 10 seconds and with each click recorded 5 seconds of video. After going away overnight I returned and stopped counting after 81 alerts and videos. Night vision subsequently died (no image at night/dark) which is great for a security camera. The right side of the image has gone a pretty shade of purple as well. When Y-CAM inevitably refuse my warranty request I will happily retire this piece of junk to the great land-fill in the sky. I have already binned my other Y-CAM and purchased a Netgear camera with actually FREE storage - limited but free, In the future I will purchase another Netgear camera. I am still furious with the change/alteration/total scam of changing the contract. For all recent smug purchasers balking at us all moaning about the changes, just wait you will see how good/bad this company is when they tweak YOUR contract. A contract that you believed was a contract, not an "uber-flexible bulls**t wish list".
Read these reviews before buying anything from this company (as I wish I had).
The outdoor camera wouldn't connect to WifI (I work in IT) and 'customer support' were useless. Removing free storage after a year is just dishonest and deceitful - how any company think they can get away with business ethics like this is beyond me.
The ONLY good thing I can say is that when I retuned the camera I got a full refund. Nevertheless, this company is best avoided.
While the images are good the motion recording is in my view pretty useless.
The whole reason for buying the camera was to store motion activated videos, but after 1 day the motion detected videos stopped recording.
Support advised resetting the camera, removing the App then reinstalling both. I've done this several times and motion detection works for just over 1 day then stops.
This makes the whole purpose of this camera for me useless.
Don't waste your money
As others have stated, the primary reason I purchased these cameras was for the free cloud storage.
Y-Cam has embarked on a program of - pay up or your cameras no longer work. They have no integrity and are not to be trusted. If you decide to buy from these people - you’ve been warned.
Customer service is terrible, stonewalling! Would love to hear that they have allowed their customers to record and store from the y-cam that they have purchased but they do not!

Recently bought Y cam for security for my house and pet dog, looked at a lot of cameras before going for y cam as it turned out best purchase I've made in a long time, reading all these negative comments makes me laugh. I've had one issue and Antony Fernandez dealt with it and spoke me through the issue I had...it doesn't get any better than that. So the aftercare service I've received is top notch...
I am writing this review after 3 months post installation of the Y-Cam Security alarm.
I initially purchased the home alarm system with the main reason that I wanted it to have Wifi connectivity WITH sim card as back up (because my router has got a mind of its own and randomly disconnects etc).
For the price, I think it's the best thing on the market and the App is pretty easy to use and is generally reliable. You sometimes need to refresh it, but otherwise works at home and away.
One thing I had to figure out myself is that the motion sensors are wireless and battery powered, so they have a built in battery saving mode where it will only re-arm after 5 minutes from being triggered (which is shown by the red LED light that goes off). So when you are testing the alarm system, don't worry if it doesn't set off the alarm immediately after the first test, as it is just a battery saving feature. This was not so obvious in the manual or online instructions.
Following on from my initial purchase, I thought it'd be a good idea to get a camera to add on to the system for internal use. I ended up getting the EVO on ebay 2nd hand for about £60 (so at a discount) and am pretty happy with this also. Easy to install and works really well. There is only about a 5 second delay and has good definition with HD in day light and night time with IR vision.
Initially I did have a big reservation on whether I should invest in home security with Y-cam as I do a lot of research and was seeing most of the commentary about customers who had brought the cameras with free cloud storage. As I am firstly interested in the home security system, I don't really care about video storage, but one good thing that Y-cam allow is for people to pay on a monthly basis and then also cancel the service when they don't need it. So I am only planning on paying for the Plus service when I go away on holiday, so for the sake of £10-20 a year I think it's worthwhile.
I appreciate the y-cam might not be for everyone and I know it's very easy to get caught up in all of the negative comments from previous camera customers, so I hope my review gives a bit more balance to help you decide if this is the right solution for you.
Once again, just ensuring all new folks looking for this company are aware of how they treat customers. They have an appalling track record, they lie and they do not communicate effectively. Personally, as a member of the increasingly growing community of disgruntled customers who have been burnt by this company in a mission to dent their sales and halt their deceit. I am pleased to report that following feedback I have affected another 3 Sales last week which might not be much but if we all pool our resources you will see this social movement affect them until they rethink their customer first policy!! Terrible company!
Advertised as one product and then ended up being a monthly fee... I want a refund.
As others have stated below, I was very disappointed when the 7-day free cloud video storage was removed late last year. It was the main selling point and the only reason I bought this particular product. The camera is now useless to me as I am not willing to pay a subscription and it can't be set up independently of the proprietary system through their website.
Amazon have agreed to a full refund for my 3 year old purchase, which is brilliant service on their part. I hope Y-Cam are charged for it in turn.
There’s a lot of negativity towards this product, mainly related to the £100 yearly cost. Once you accept that fact though and for what you get for it, I can’t fault it. Best system on the market, the fact it text or calls you when alarm is triggered is also a massive plus. 5*
Have three now useless cameras. When purchasing, the free cloud storage was a major factor in my decision making. Now I have to pay £2.99 per camera per month. The more y-cams you have, the more you lose. £8.97 in my case, not one charge per account. Don't buy!
I was given two Y-Cam Evo cameras for Christmas which were purchased direct from the company. The offer applied for and printed on the boxes included free cloud storage.
Setting the cameras up proved fairly simple and I was initially impressed with the quality of the images produced. Since then however things have changed.
Although supposedly entitled to the free cloud storage, it appears that only one camera qualifies. The other one, despite being bought at the same time just pings notifications.
One of the things I was also pleased to see is the 'location recording' feature. In theory, if your phone moves away from your home turf the cameras activate. The problem is it doesn't work reliably and the last thing you want is a security system that you don't know whether it is on or off.
At other times, the cameras sometimes drop their connection despite nothing else on the same access point doing so.
If you try to get a live view from the cameras, you need to be either patient or unlucky. My guess is that they've had to cut back on their back end systems and if you are in a queue to see your cameras you either have to wait a while or the system times out.
The only thing that seems to work is the auto responder service when you try to email them with requests for help. I've had nothing from them after eight days.
I Look at my now, useless security camera every day, albeit fully functional if I am prepared to pay for cloud storage for it to be of any use to me.
If you buy now, you will be aware of the costs involved, so you are entering into a contract you agree with and are fully aware of the cost involved. Me, like many others were promised 7 days free cloud storage for life.
Would not buy from this company again!
I have purchased quite a few items now and have extremely happy with every aspect of the company from ordering, delivery and the actual product it’s self. The quality of the products is outstanding and the ease to add more items to your existing setup is unreal. I also like the fact that since I purchased my first item they have continued to develop the idea and added more items that can be connected.
No matter what others have reviewed this product and company as, by far this product is superior to any of those available on market.
Great support, great team and great product. I think we should support small businesses and Y-Cam is one of them who strive hard and are innovative.
Do not take the negative reviews seriously, they are meaningless and I can assure you that you won't be disapointed buying their product.
As everyone else i purchased Y-Cam Evo due to advertised "free" storage which company now decided to cancel it and charge customers. Awful marketing tactics and misleading advertising. Definitely put me off to purchase anything from them in future.
Not bad, phone app can be a bit slow at times due to 4G access.
Software can be a glitchy at times and fails to connect to the camera.
Overall not a bad system.
External cameras are expensive for what they are.
